    VST vs Hysterectomy

I had a hysterectomy oh so long ago with the complete stomach cutting. I never had the pain pump for that, (the nurse forgot to set it up but I just took any additional pain meds in my iv. As for my VSG. I was up walking within 2 hours of getting to my room. I never had a pain pump and only use the pain meds they gave in my IV every 4 hours. I did have available additional pills if I needed but for me it wasn't necessary. I know I had more pain with my hysterectomy then with the VSG. Just remeber to walk as much as possible afterwards as that will help with the gas pain. I slept with a pillow under my legs and stomach to sleep on my side. I could never sleep on my back. Any pain will be fleeting as you keep focus on the final reward of losing weight.

4th of July - WHAT WILL YOU WEIGH???

I haven't checked in for a while...I had a 6 week stall which has finally passed. The scale has been moving although very slowly. I won't make goal but that is okay. I am losing weight and have not put anything back on. I had moved this goal date up from the end of the month which is my 30th class reunion and there is a good chance that I still may make that original date I had set. We have just bought a house so I had been spending a lot of time packing and working overtime and not getting the walking in like I should. Now at my new house, I can walk down to a small lake that has a walking path around it-the total trip is 2.12 miles so I am doing that every night after work now. Boxes can be unpacked later-walking is more important right now. klus263.....165.......................157............150..............7.............

    Sams Choice Stuffed Chicken Breasts

I will have to check them out. They sound great.
  4. I want to lose 10 to 20 more lbs. I started my dread stall at 5 months out. I keep bouncing right around 160. I admit I look good at this weight compared to what I was but yes, I want to lose just a little bit more...my fat is basically just below the girls through the belly. Everywhere else I am skinny enough which is why I think a few more would be good. At my 6 month appt, they were saying another 20 lbs would put at the ideal weight. We are in the process of moving and I have been trying to walk at least twice a day-a mile each time even with the temps in the upper 90s. We can do it! Thanks for all the support.
  5. I do take calcium-the chewable viactin 2 times a day, a multi vitamin 2 times a day (centrum silver women) . I only take my vitamin b once a week. My doctors does labs at 6 months and 1 yr after surgery. A lot of people I hear have a vitamin D defeciency but I was found to have a vitamin A at my 6 months so I just take a supplement of that daily. You need to space as some counter acts against others. I take my multi vitamin with breakfast.- 2 hrs later is my first calcium, at lunch I have my vitamin A then at after noon break is my 2nd calcium then at supper is my 2nd multi vitamin. For me it is a must as I had surgery to become healthy which I have been to discontine my diabetic medication and my cholestral medication. To take a few vitamins pills on a daily basis to keep me healthy, I am going to do it. Besides I know that I am unable to eat enough food to ensure I get my vitamins from food. Good Luck.
  6. My husband took only the day I came home from the hospital. He did call and texted often the next few days. If your daughter is dependable, she should be able to at least help you with making sure you get your fluids in. She may not be able to help you get up but she can watch you and if needed, she can always call someone if she gets concerned. Good Luck.
  7. I just had my 6 months lab drawn and will see my doctor this friday. Per the results they called, my labs were all good except for I was low in vitamin A so they suggested just a supplement from the store. I have just switched from the bariatric chewables to Centrum Women's silver (2x per day)and chewable viactin(2x per day). I started taking my vitamin A and still take my vitamin B lingual weekly. We will see in 6 months at my yearly how it is going. I take out all my pills in the morning and put them on top of one of the caps so everytime I walk into the kitchen I take one so that by supper time I only have my 2nd multivitamin for the day. Along time ago I belong to a gym and did their weight loss program and we took extra vitamin B complex which helps in losing weight. I will take my vitamins as it keeping me healthy and that is the main reason of having the surgery is being healthy.

    Partners in Crime?

I had my surgery Dec 1st and my husband had his March 30. I am glad we did not have it at the same time as the first few weeks he was able to help me get up and around and for him I was able to drive and support him when he had some dizzy spells. We had lifting restrictions and even bending over to pick up and fold laundry really hurt during the first 4 weeks for me so he did housework when I was recuperating and I was able to do it when he was recuperating. I would personally recommend that it would be a least 30 days apart so that you can help each other in case of emergencies do do lifting or driving if needed. Once you both get to the same stage of food it will be wonderful. We are now cheap dates in splitting a lot of meals when we got out. Congrats on both making the decision to have the surgery, you will not regret it!
  9. I use benefiber every day. I mix mine with water. Since they are chewables, you shouldn't have a problem.

4th of July - WHAT WILL YOU WEIGH???

Okay...I have been in a stall since May 8, my longest ever ....I know I just have to be patience and it will start again but I sure do hate waiting. I have increased my Water, increased my carbs, lower my carbs, increased my Protein, started walking again but still to no avail. I am down to my last 25 lbs and though I would be happy at 160, I would be happier at 150, 145 or 140. Let's hope next week I will have better news. klus263.....165.......................161............150..............11.............

    Pills

My doctor allowed me to swallow anything that was no bigger than an M&M right after surgery. I would say when you are comfortable in swallowing and when you can swallow enough water to take your pills. Just make sure that they do go down completely.

    ** HELP **

I can relate to your work situation. And you can see you have so many different answers already. I also work from home (customer service for an insurance company answering phone calls). I work 4-10 hour days. I had my surgery on a Wednesday, came home on Thursday morning. Without taking short term disability, I had to be back to work on the following Wednesday. I went back to work the following work on Wednesday and Thursday 10 hour shifts and it was a little rough. I did get up and walked around the apartment every hour (I was taking lovenox blood thinner shots). I wish I had worked only half days for those 2 days but I made it through. I had an hour for lunch so I would walk for the first 15 minutes then have lunch. A few days I would lay down for 30 minutes for a short nap. I was one of the lucky ones with no complicatons, no nausea, ext. I was off my pain meds by the weekend. Good Luck!
  13. I have done several of the protein egg bites. Both my husband and I really like them. I want to try more of them and some of her other recipes also. Good Luck.
  14. Listen to what the doctor has to say then forget the comment he is disappointed. Accept what you are doing and how hard you are working. You are doing GREAT!!!. My nutrition says 1-3 pounds per week is good. You seem to be right in that guideline. Everybody is different. You are losing. I am lucky my surgeon did not give me any weight goals or anything. I go back in a few weeks for my 6 month followup. My pcp is very pleased. My A1c is down to 5.2 and I am off all diabetic medication. I just found an old letter from my PCP and my A1c was 7.0 over a year ago. I would now be classified as non-diabetic. I am very interested in others saying we need more fat when doing low carb. I am currently in a stall and have only lost 1-2 pounds this month total but I have lost 72 since presurgery/post surgery total so I am happy. I am at my lowest weight since 1986. If I don't lose anymore I can say that I would be okay with that but I do want to try for up to another 25 lbs total Hang in there.

I've only lost 4 lbs this month

Can you give us ideas of what you are eating or drinking? You may not be getting enough calories, protein, water. Sometimes you need to change what you are doing in order to start the losses again. My nutritionist said losing 1-3 pounds a week is realistic. Everyone loses weight differently. Make sure that you are following your doctor;s order. Just hang in there, You are losing!.

    Aetna supervised diet

I have Aetna but our insurance is self funded so we had some different guidelines, but per the Aenta website you can go 2 ways-3 months superivised diet with a nutritionist and fitness or 6 months supervised diet. I used my pcp which gave me a diet plan on my first visit then each month documented my weight and we discussed diet and what I was doing with excersising. I had 2 yrs of documentation of being overweight. Once they had all my paperwork, I was approved in 24 hours. After my surgery (done Dec 1, 2010) they added the requirement of being done at one of their center of excellance which my husband had to go 150 miles to have surgery done (his was done on March 30, 2011). Good Luck.

4th of July - WHAT WILL YOU WEIGH???

Nothing new to report as the dreaded stall has happened again . But I will prevail. I am really watching the carbs again and trying to up the water. Still need to work more veggies in the diet but I cannot seem to digest lettuce at this time (TMI) so will have to look at other ways. Keep up the good work, Everyone!
  18. Congrats....I was able to stop my metformin during the pre-op diet. They did give me one shot of insulin while in the hospital. I just had my labs done prior to my 6 month appointment. I got the call on Friday that my A1c is 5.2.....that would be considered normal and I would no longer be considered diabetic. I am trying one month without the cholestral meds and will have labs drawn afte 30 days to see if I can stop that. If I can then I will only be on Vitamins and Calcium. Unfortatunately I am Vitamin A deficiant so I will be adding that as a separate supplement. But I am not eating enough vegatables so I have work on that. Good Luck!!!

    A small victory

It took me 6 months to get back into my original wedding ring and diamond. Its't it a great feeling? I hadn't been able to wear for them for 24 years-we have been married for 27. I still have another 25 pounds to go and they make get too big for me but then I will have them resized. These are special to me as my husband was stationed in Germany when he got them and had the engagement ring sent to his Dad to give to me as he was unable to come on leave at that time. Keep up the good work!
  20. My wardrobe is so limited right now and I wont buy any winter clothes that on a clearance as I don't know where I will be come this next winter. I do have several thrift shops that I rotate through to work on my wardrobe for now. We did a major purge the other week right after the tornados here in Alabama and we donated a lot of clothes to the victims that lost everything. I felt good that many of my good clothes will go to people in real need. I did buy a new outfit a wedding and class reunion I have coming up. I won't pay a lot for clothes right now but it is a new wardrobe in the future for me as I am only about 25 lbs from goal. YEA!!!

4th of July - WHAT WILL YOU WEIGH???

Slow and steady is the pace. I really need to start walking more but hate walking alone and hate just walking the parking lot of our apartment complex. We have placed an offer on a house and hopefully will close May 25th. So once we move, I will have a neighborhood to walk and feel a lot safer. UGH....never telling a stranger again!

I had joined curves for a year. Went faithly 2-3 times a week. Guess how much weight Iost...Nada, zip, not a freaking pound. I watched what I ate and just could not lose weight. I also tried weight watchers and lost on 7 lbs. For me, weight loss surgery was the only option for me. This was not the easy way out. It is a tool as anything else but a tool that has helped me to be successful. So far I have been lucky and have not come across anyone negative to me regarding surgery. Hang in there and you can do it. You handled this person in a dignified manner, I don't think I would have been as gracious as you were.

    Soy, peanut butter ... 4 days post-op?

Soy milk would be okay...many people who are lactose intolerant uses soy. As for the peanut butter, we were advised to avoid for 4 weeks. And then it should be lowfat and creamy. Hope you will feel better soon.

    Diabetes

Before I started my prep diet I was taking 500 mg of Metformin twice a day. My sugar levels was still around 140 in the morning. I worked closely with my pcp for my preop diet and my sugar levels dropped so drastically that I had to stop taking the medication prior to surgery. While I was in the hospital I did get one dose of insulin but since then I have not taken any medication. I go this friday for my lab work before my 6 month appointment. I am hoping that my A1c is low enough that I may not be considered diabetic. I still test occaisionly but now my levels are between 80-110. Good Luck.

4th of July - WHAT WILL YOU WEIGH???

Here we go!!! At least I am not starting on a stall. I bought a new outfit yesterday at JCPenneys-it was on sale from $70 for 50% and then an early bird special for another $15 off. I got it for $25. A size 14!!!! I have not worn that size in who knows how long. This is for a sunset beach wedding June 4th in Biloxi. Then the wedding party is going to Beau Rivage Resort for dinner. I already checked with the restuarant and they will allow my husband and I to share a meal, yippee. I can't wait to show of my new figure. SN..............Starting Wt........Current.......Goal.......Lbs to Goal klus263.....165.......................162.............150..............13.............
