What can I take for this pain??

My doctor prescribed for me powder nexium. I mix in with a tablespoon of warm water every morning. I have had no heartburn or reflux issue at all. They had also done a hernia repair at the same time. Contact your doctor to see if you can get a liquid prescription for a time.

    Weird big bruise

As others has posted this is from the blood thinner shots. I had to give myself shots in the stomach for 14 days after surgery and one I did the lowest has the biggest bruise and is still there. This is common and nothing to worry about it. I have various sizes of bruises all over my lower stomach from these shots.
  3. I felt the same way-sleeved Dec 1st. I gained 12 pounds from the iv fluids. I was able to get that off in the following week but it has been slow since. I did have my husband take my measurements. We did this a few days before surgery. When I added it all up I had lost 21.25 inches!!!!!. So the scale may not be moving as quickly as I want-I am seeing the evidence in other ways. I don't dread walking in front of a reflective surface-window or mirror. So I will accept that I will lose but it will be slower then I want. But I am still losing. Hang in there.

    3 days post op

I was sleeved on Dec 1st and also had a hernia repair. A sore throat is common due to the intubation during surgery. I had an issue and could not tolerate the aspartmine/sweetner after surgery but that is getting better. As for the blurred vision-contact the doctor. This may be a side affect of medications that you are one but you need to be check for sure. I was able to change my bandages daily after a shower. Mine were not itchy but very sore as I had staples. I still have 2 that are still scabbed over. I still have tenderness where they did the hernia repair. As a stomach sleeper it is hard yet to sleep but I sleep on my side with a pillow by my stomach and a pillow under my knee to releive some of the pressure pull on the stomach. It will get better. It took a while to lose pounds but I lost inches quickly.
  5. Ok...I was sleeved Dec 1st and just graduated to mushies.....Yippee. I seem to be doing okay in getting in protein but I am having difficulty in getting the recommend fluids in daily. My goal is 64 protein and 64 fluids. I work four days a week 8 am to 7 pm as customer service rep answering phones. I know we shouldn't drink 30 or so before or after meals. I try to keep a water bottle to sip but answering back to back calls, it is hard to get it done. Any suggestions?

    Appeal Payment of Anesthesia

Try to appeal stating that you did not have an option to chose an in network provider and had to use the provider set up by the hospital. Sometimes you can get an exception because the hospital surgery and stay was approved. Just an option. Otherwise see if the provider would be willing to negotiate a one time rate with the insurance company.

    mini trampoline????

I was sleeved on Dec 1st...yea me.....I know that walking is a very important key in losing weight. I work from home 4 days a week/8 am to 7 pm with an hour for lunch, We only have one car which my husband has during the day. And I cannot afford a gym membership at this time. Today I was walking the parking lot and it is very cold out (for AL) . I was wondering if anyone has used a mini trampoline to get their cardio/walking. I will be seeing my surgeon tomorrow and can ask him also. With the time change after my husband gets home from work (he also works until 7 pm) it is very dark. There are no sidewalks to walk as we live in an apartment complex and personally I do not like going out at night by myself. The closest mall to walk is 10 miles away so that is out. Weekends are no problems as we have taken up hiking and usallly go out both days, it will be easy hikes for this next month. I just need an alternate during the week when I am home alone. Thanks for any suggestions.
  8. This is definately a interesting thread. My doctor did not set any goal with me but with my Nut we talked about 125. I had that number in my head from one I was pregnant with my first child and had 4 months of morning sickness and dropped down to that amount. I loved myself at that time but my husband thought I was too skinny but then I gained 70 lbs with that pregnancy once I quit being sick. Thus the beginning of the yo yo dieting. I think this would give me a little leway as I learn to maintain that if I get back to 130 or so, I would still be in a healthy range. I have this down to 3 major milestones to get to that goal. The first is to be down to 175 by Mardi Gras-I always travel to New Orleans and my sister and I have tickets to one of the Balls in March.:martini_shaken: The 2nd goal is 150 by the end of July for my 30th class reunion.:cheer2: If I make that-I would be almost the same size from high school and the final goal is for October for my youngest daughter's wedding. :party4: Bonus to me if I can met these goals before that but I plan to be one of the statistics that lose all the weight and not just a percentage....Yea to me... I am on my way.

    Alabama Doctors?

I was sleeved on Dec 1st with Dr Schmitt. Hopefully we can meet up during the support group sometime. How are you doing?
  10. I was also experiencing this Saturday. Sunday I took it easy but still folded laundry and then bent over to pick up something and boooom, pain again. I don't work on Mondays and my husband said not to do anything so the only thing I did was go to the mall and walk the upper and lower level for my excerise (it is soo cold here in AL) and he has done everything else. No pain today....I guess I felt good that I forgot that I am on restrictions for a reason. Hopefully if you rest it will get better otherwise call your doctor.

    COBRA???

COBRA is a continuation of the same policy you had. If it is a covered benefit under the normal medical plan-it covered as COBRA benefit. It should not make a difference if it is an active employee plan or cobra.

    When to tell???

I understand how you feel. Many years ago we belong to a church and something like this would definatetly not be understand and been acceptable to do. I am sure that you have prayed very much in making your decision and have peace in doing this. If you feel you need to share anything with your pastor or church family, you can let them know you have an "unspoken" if you wish. This is a tool to help lose weight and correct health issues. I have read that VSG will help patient with PCOS. I know personally that I have already put my diabetes in remission and hope to resolve a few more health issues as I continue to lose weight. As for your parents-tell them when you are ready. I actually did not tell my parents until this past weekend.- I was sleeved on Dec 1st. I didn't go into detail with them but just that I had weight loss surgery and a hiatal hernia repair and he had agreed that I needed to do what I have to to lose weight. We live over 7 hours away from my parents so by the next time I will see them, I hopefully will be close to goal weight. Just do what is most comfortable for you and your family. Good luck, you are moving in the right direction.
  13. I was just sleeved on Dec 1st. My hospital staff was awesome. The bariatric Nurse who did our presurgery nutrition class and also runs the seminar came in and again asked if we had any questions. She is also a gastric bypass patient so she completely understands what we were going through. I was prescribed Lovenax for the blood thinner and I had to give that to myself with the nurse so they could see that I knew what I was doing. (I am was on those shots for 14 days at home) Once they moved me to pre surgery room the anesthesia (they had 2 nurses for surgery) actually placed the iv in the underside of my arm. They asked a few more questions then gave me, I think some kind of relaxant. I barely remember going into the operatiing room. Next thing I remember I was in my room. During the hospital stay ( I was released the next morning) they nurses where wonderful. I had in IV pain medication-toradyl and did not need anything more than that but I did have orders if I needed more. Everyone has different pain threshold and it appears that mine are kinda high, don't be afraid to ask for something if you need more. I am jus squeamish about the blood thinner shots but I am doing it because it was it best for me and it is not for ever. Good luck and you will do fine.

    3 day countdown

Good Luck. If you can get pass the pre-op diet and all, the rest will be a breeze. I am 12 days post op. I know some food will be eaten again but in a much smaller quantity and better for me. It will only be thin crust in the future and probably will make me own so I can control what is put on it. Only a few more days for you.

    Protein drinks gagging me

I use the Carnation sugar free Instant Milk with 1/3 cup of Dry milk mix with the skim milk. This gives me 21 grams of protein. I have just recently bought the Torina Sugar Free syrups and added Raspberry flavored, Caramel and for the holiday gingerbread-all of these are also sugar free to change up the flavor from plain chocolate and vanilla.

    Shots

Not all doctors require this. My doctor does and mine is a 14 day dose per day. I had to watch the DVD on how to give yourself a shot. The morning of surgery, the nurse had me do the shot so that they were sure I knew how to do it. It helps to prevent blood clots. Some days I feel it and some days I don't. They did suggest to make sure the alcohol swabbed area is dry and that will help in preventing the burning. It will leaving bruising but hey it is a blood thinner. After reading someone's post who developed a blood clot in the stomach and had to be readmitted, I am glad that this is a requirement from my doctor.

    Want to chew

I am so with you on this. I was sleeved on Dec 1st and can start mushies on Wednesday. I can't decide if I am going to have mashed potatoes or scrambled eggs first. But I will wait as I do not want any complications. I had to make chicken salad for my husband so he could have something to eat. Since I can't taste anything at this time....he said it turned out awful. He will also be happy to see me move up to more substantial food other than protein drinks.

    Swelling

I gained 10 lbs while in the hospital. I was able to get into my normal clothes within a few days. I work sweats the first couple of days. Walking for me really helped for me to lose that weigh and swelling very quickly. I was sleeved on the 1st and my pants are starting to getting fairly loose on me.

How long were you off work?

I had surgery Dec 1st. I really did a lot of walking at the hospital-they recommended at least once every 2-4 hours. I walked every hour up and down the hallway. I was released by 10:30 am the next morning. I went back to work yesterday on the 8th. Any more than that would require short term disability and I could not afford the reduce of pay for any additional time (they pay 75% of salary while on disability). I work from home, customer service on phones all day and I work a 10 hour shift. I do have to get up every hour while I am still on the blood thinner shots. I tried to walked at 3-4 times a day while I was off and I think that helped alot.
  20. I am so sorry to hear about your blood clot. I know all my meetings with the doctors and nurses they stressed that we walked often to help. They also gave us Lovenax which is a blood thinner that we have to take for 14 days following surgery. We give the shot ourselves in the stomach every morning. I am hating this shots but after hearing what has happened to you I am grateful my doctor has prescribed this and I will think of you every morning as I give myself my shot. Keep up posted on how you are doing.
  21. I just followed up with my doctor for my one week followup and to remove my staples. During surgery they did a hiatal hernia repair and a liver biospy as he did not like how the liver look. Now I already knew that I had fatty liver disease so that was not a suprise for him to due. But today he told me that he always looks inside the stomach that he removes and he found multiple polyps. He did have a biospy done and they were all benigned. Has any one else found out that they had stomach polyps after the surgery? I did just a little research after coming home and polyps are common but some lead to gastric cancer which is hard to detect as it most people think it is just a stomach ache. Holy crap, at least mine were benign but what a scary thought. As for the liver biospy, it was found to be hepitatis inflamed which is common in obese people even though we have never had any form of hepitatis. He did state that this is now a leading issue for overweight people leading to a liver transplant. The good news is because I did get sleeved, all stomach polyps have been removed, hernia has been repaired and the liver will improve as I lose weight. I have stopped my diabetic medication as my blood sugar levels have been in the normal range ever since the pre surgery liquid diet. This has been the smartest medical decision I have ever made and I wish I would had this done several years ago. But I am now sleeved and moving to a healthier me.

    Hospital Stay

I was sleeved on Dec 1st. I was up in my room and walking by 2 pm that day-I was first in surgery at 7 am. I walked the hallways every hour up and down 2 times. The next morning, I was allowed Clear liquids. Since I had been walking, I had no issues with naseua or gas pain. I was only approved for a one day stay with my insurance and I was released by 10 am to go home the next day. Our nurses was very attentive and I got a pain shot every 4 hours, along with iv fluids with an antibiotic and an acid reducer. I did not take any additional pain meds that were ordered if needed. Walking was the big key in getting released as soon as I did. I hope you have as easy time as I did. I also had an hiatal hernia repair and a liver biospy as well as being sleeved. Good Luck.
  23. My diet is also restrictive, first day after surgery was only clear liquids. Then 14 days of liquid-protein drinks, yogurt, jello, low fat cream soups-strained. After 2 weeks I can move to mushies but no meat until week 4. then very gradually. My doctor's office has never had anyone with a leak with following this diet. I am looking forward to having some mashed potatoes but I am more than willing to wait for it. The thought of mushies scare me right now. I am just focusing on liquids and getting my proteins in.
  24. I was just sleeved on Dec 1st and still working on the protein. Currently I am mainly using the Carnation instant breakfast (sugar free of course) with 8 oz of skim milk but I am adding 1/3 c of dry milk to increase the protein by an additional 8 grams. This can be disovled in both cold and warm liquids. Remember that to add the protein from the milk to the total package so with this each drink is approximately 21 grams of protein at 230 calories. Since I am still on a liquid diet I have found that sugar free anything made with sweetner or aspartme upsets my stomach at this time. I have found the liquid Isopure-Alpine Punch not bad to drink. I know others cannot stand that brand.

    TORN on what to do

I have not told all of my family members. My parents are elderly and wouldn't understand and 2 of my sisters I am not close to and have always felt their disapproval of my weight. From other post, let your sister know when you are comfortable to talk to her about it. You do not need the stress before or after surgery. Personally based on her past behavior-I would be hesitant to tell her at all. Let her think that the books and other stuff is working for you. Or just let her know that you are following a doctor controlled diet-which is true. The sleeve is just a tool like a book or weight watchers. Of course it is the greatest tool to have to be successful. I had my surgery on Dec 1st and have not had any complications at all.
