    Sleeved 12/22/2010

What a great present. I had a friend who bought a size med dress for when I get to my ideal size. I had been thinking of getting something for to look at as I become the incredible shrinking woman. As I am now down almost 30 lbs. It has been a quiet holiday this year as my husband and I could not travel due to work and he is being considerate of me and my current food limitations. This is the best present we have given ourselves this year and many more blessings in the year to come.

    Surgery Dec 28th

Don't be nervous. The staff at my hospital was wonderful. I don't remember moving to my room and I dozed off and on for a few hours but after that, I was up working the halls every hour which helped tremendously for gas. They gave me pain meds in my iv every 4 hours and nausea medication along with a acid reducer in my iv. I had no complications, I was in some pain as I moved from the bed to get around but hey we did just have major stomach surgery. I was home the next day 11:30 with a stop at Walmart to walk some more-(it was cold outside) and to fill a prescription. Sleep in the hospital was non existant and I took a nap when I got home. They called twice in the following week after I got home to check on me. I did have a hiatal hernia and a liver biospy but all is well now and I am no longer diabetic and am down almost 30 lbs since surgery on Dec 1st. This was the best decision I ever made and today I had to buy new pajamas in size XL.....not 2X or 3X. What a great feeling. Keep us posted on how you do.
  3. I had been hoping for Christmas that Santa would bring me to "Onederland" and I got it. After hovering at 200 for the week, this morning I was 199.4. My husband took a picture for proof.....look at the skinny toes!
  4. Welcome.....this is the best decision you have made for yourself. As for protein supplements everyone has different taste and after surgery your taste may change. Personally I am using the carnation instant Breakfast sugar free chocolate and french vanilla. I add 1/3 c of dry milk to increase the protein to 21 grams with skim milk at 210 calories. Sometimes I heat the milk and it is like hot chocolate and also mix some Torina sugar free syrups to change up the flavor. I have used the walmart EAS advantage and have tried from GNC the Isopure. Good Luck. This was the best present I gave myself.

    My Day Tomorrow!

Good luck tomorrow. I am so similar to you. When I started my journey back in February I was 232 and 5'4". I was sleeved on Dec 1st. On Christmas day I weighed 199. Woo Hoo. Suprisingly I was not as nervous knowing that I was doing the right thing. I have already resolved my diabetes and soon will see my PCP about discontinuing my cholestral medication. Welcome to the loser's bench....
  6. My surgery was at 7 am....I don't remember going to my room. I took a nap after my first walk and my husband left at 2 pm. After that I started walking the halls almost every hour. I was given a shot for pain every 4 hours but did not need anything additional prescribed. Pain was minimal for me except getting in and out of bed. I did not feel sick at all but they had given me some meds and acid reducers in my IV for that. They had also did an hiatal hernia repair. I was one of the lucky ones who did not experience many post op issues. I was discharged by 10 am the next morning.

    I love Christmas

I work from home and suggested to the company that they allow us to meet for a holiday luncheon like the people who work in the offices. And can you guess they schedule it on the day of my surgery. So far we have stayed away from any public gatherings since my surgery. I did have a friend buy me dress size Med for when I get to my goal. I now have that hanging on my closet door so I can see it everytime I go into the bedroom. That is giving me incentive to be good and stick to my new style of eating and not cheat. I also did not bake this year or make any big meals. I am far away from family so we also had no family gatherings to attend so that did help. We can do this!!!!
  8. What did you have done? Have you tried anbesol to put directly on the area? I use the children's liquid tylenol (I take 4 tsp for a dose). For me liquids work quicker. You could also call the pharmacist-our Walgreens is open 24 hrs and see if they can recommend something. Just let them know you had sleeve surgeryj and see if you can get it in a liquid or that the pills are small enough to swallow.

    Drs release

I was told from my doctor 6-8 weeks before lifting weights. I did also have a hernia repair but I think the 6-8 is standard for most major stomach surgeries. I was sleeved on Dec 1st and my stomach still reminds while doing housework if I over do it with too much bending over, loading the dishwasher or doing laundry. Don't rush it, listen to your body.

    pre surgery over eating

I had several last meals prior to my pre-op diet. I had to be one for 7 days with a clear liquid the day before surgery. For some of things I knew that it would be quite a while before I would be able to have them again but it will be in a much smaller quantity or healthy way. I was sleeved Dec 1st and right now I am not hungry for most of that stuff. I have to remind myself to eat. It will get better. I think the pre-op diet was the hardest for me. As I am now adding some food back, old cravings are not there. Do try to start with the smaller bites and not drinking with meals and you will have a great start for after surgery.

    Vitamins & Malnourishment

My husband has been very supportive of me getting surgery even attending the first seminar with me. He is also overweight with high blood pressure. He goes to a gym and said he would just get serious with that. About a month before my surgery, he realized the gym was not working for him and he is now going through 6 months with the PCP so we can submit him for approval. I know it will be the best thing also for him. He cant wait until he is approved and sleeved.

    Still in Pain

I was sleeved on Dec 1st. I do still get some pain in my side but it because other times I forget that I had "major surgery". I have lifting restrictions for 4-6 weeks and find that if I do to much housework or bending over it reminds me to take it easy. It is getting better. I work at a desk for 10 hrs and find that if I don't get up about every hour and just walk around a few minutes, I experience pain. Walking definately helps.

    Vitamins & Malnourishment

It definately sounds like she is not an informed on weight loss surgery....also if these people are having those type of complications most likely they are or have not followed their doctors protocol. Every GNC is different. I go to one and the person I spoke with was a nutrionist also. She never said anything discouraging to me about surgery and gave me plenty of options of protein she has customers and she also personally uses. Maybe you can find another GNC to go to if you continue to buy with them.

    10 Days Post Op

I use the carnation instant Breakfast sugar free. I add 1/3 c of dry milk to increase the protein. This gives me 21 grams of protein. I also heat it and it take like hot chocolate. I also have added the Torina sugar free syrups, I currently have raspberry, carmel and for the holiday-gingerbread. You can also add the dry milk to chicken broth to add protein also.

I have a question about alcohol

I was sleeved Dec 1st and I am waiting until Mardi Gras weekend in New Orlean to splurge on my first post op drink. We usually have tickets for one of the balls and It must be the drive thru daquiri for pineapple and amaretto and then a late night run to Taco Bell. And a least one or two visit for sushi. I hope to be at 175 or below by then. :party4:
  16. Welcome. I was considering the band when I went to my first seminar. I never considered the sleeve as my insurance did not allow for it at that time. When I went in for my first consultation, he recommended the sleeved as insurance had just approved the procedure. I freaked all the way home and did some major research. The more and more I read, I knew it was the right decision for me. My husband was very supportive and he is now going through his requirements and we hope to have him sleeve in the spring. My family history has both maternal grandparents on multiple diabetic shots daily, my mother on pills. Strokes and heart attacks on both side, knee replacement, back issues, I have mild breathing issues and non alcoholic liver disease (fatty liver disease). Since surgery, I have already stopped my diabetic pills and will have my cholestral medication reviewed in a few months. This was the best decision, I ever did. Good luck. You will be so happy you did it.
  17. The sleep study is crazy....I had to do 2 as the first one showed a mild case and then I had to do 2nd night to sleep with a machine. Each was $1600, insurance approved $1100 then the cost of the machine was extra. My insurance requires a rental over 6 months. I had it for the compliance for the doctor's office and had it at the hospital....surgery was done on Dec 1st. This machine goes back Monday.....I am not paying another deductible on this.

    New Chapter

Brownbear, As other as said, we are your support group. I have monthly support meetings that are sponsered by my Doctor's office that I am attending but this group is here for me 24/7. I was only sleeved on Dec 1st.....this is not the easy way out. Far from it-it is a tool like any other diet/pill/excerise etc....But the best thing about this tool it is workable and much better than all other tools that are traditional we have had in the past. I was careful of who I told but now, I see the results. I too had a love affair with food. I was the daughter that always had the family holiday dinners. I would scour cookbooks/internet/magazines for new recipes to try. There was not a cookbook, I had never liked but I am thinking a whole new way. My love affair with still be with me once I get to my goal but there will be a lot less of it or modifications to make it better for me. It was for my health-since getting sleeved I have already discontinued my diabetis medication and look foward in a few months for my PCP to review my cholestrol medication. By then I will only be on allergy pills and I may be able to stop those also. I have done this for myself-of course there is other reason but this was for me and what I needed to do. I yo-yo dieted for years losing and putting back on more weight each time. This is not healthy and I was primed for much more health issues in the future if I did not do something soon. So, enjoy the ride. It will be a roller coaster but what a ride so far and I can't wait to see how it ends. Good luck and keep in touch.

    Should I call the Doc?

I had an issue with the protein drinks. I am using the carnation instat sugar free breakfast mix and add 1/3 c of dry milk. With the 8 oz of skim milk. this gets the protein to 21 grams per drink. You can also use warm milk for like a hot chocolate.

    Heat flashes?

What have you been eating? If you are having something spicy-that may cause it. I wish that would be the case for me, I have been cold since surgery due to the blood thinners we had to take.

    Bruise Pains

I was sleeved on Dec 1st. I still have pain by my incinsion sites. I do find they are more painfully when I do over do it. Bending over is painful when I try to straighten back up. Remember we did have major sugery and it will take time to heal inside. I also had a hernia repair. I am on weight and excersise restrictions for 6 weeks. When it reminds me I just had surgery. I take it very easy and I feel better. If you are really concern definately speak with your doctor.
  22. I am jumping on board the train!!!!!!. :welcome: I am close.......201.4 this morning. I am hoping for an early Christmas present this year to compliment the sleeve I got on Dec 1st. Whoot Whoot :party4:

    Heparin Shots?

My doctor prescibed Lovenex shots. The kit came with a dvd that showed how to administer the shots. I had to take these for 14 days after the surgery. I hated doing the shots but it prevented any complications for blood clots. There is another here on the forum who developed a blood clot and had to be readmitted and is still in the hospital after several weeks. So, giving myself shots vs an extended stay in the hospital...shots I will do. If you have to do it at home, you will be fine. Good luck.
  24. I was sleeved Dec 1st. The first few days it was very noisy but that is because of the disruptions because of surgerys. After a few days, it has settled down. I only here it now is when I eat to quickly or introducing new foods back into my diet.

    Aetna Question?

I did the 6 months also with a one on one with a nutritionist. I also had to provide records from 2008 showing my weight. My husband was doing the 3 month multi but we found that you had to have 3 months with an exercise therapist also so he is just going to finish the 6 months instead. Make sure you check the actual qualifications that goes with your insurance.
