    WHY ME???

Before the sleeved....if stress it was a tub of butter with a loaf of hot fresh french bread....OMG, I miss it but I have not given in. My nutritionist has not recommended bread for the 6 weeks and then not whole wheat as it may be distressful to the stomach. I have settled on trying melba toast which breaks down very quickly andwhile it is not french bread it, it is good spread with the laughing cow cheese. Right now I am watching my carbs as I noticed with exceeding 40-50g a day my weight loss slowed down drastically. Now that I am keeping it to 30 or less per day, the scale is moving again. Just be patient and the time will come again that you will be able to partake in slice of bread.
  2. I am 47 and sleeved in December. My husband is 49 and will be sleeved in March/April.
  3. I was the complete opposite. I am a "nervous nelly"....I threw up before my wedding because of nerves. I gag on the mornings we leave on a vacation. But for this surgery, you would think I would be puking all over the place and I was not. I was never nervous at all as I knew I was doing the best thing ever for myself. Dec 1st, I was wearing size W22/24 tops and W18/20 pants. For christmas I bought a new pair of pajamas sized XL (16/18). Today I bought a size LG 12/14...OMG....this is great. Don't freak out. You are making the right decision for your. Good Luck and keep us posted.
  4. I had the cotton mouth so bad, I swear I could knit a sweater a day. My husband bought me a tongue scraper and I brushed my teeth multiple times a day. I have found that as I moved to more food based protein instead of shakes, it has gotten much better.
  5. Take it one day at time. I found that if I had something every 2-3 hours I did not get as hungry and I could get by. A lot of this is just head hunger, knowing that you are limited in what you can eat and you want everything else. I lost 10 lbs on my presurgery diet and that was just a taste of what will happen after after surgery. My husband is calling me the incredible shrinking woman. I know he is jeaolous as he will not get surgery until the end of March or April.

    problems post op

I had gain 14 lbs from surgery and it took about a week to get off. I am consistently losing....maybe not as quick as I had hoped. But I am losing...yea. I also did do a lot of burping at first and still do at times. I find that when I eat too quickly or take too big of a swallow. It has gotten lots better. Hang in there. Walk, walk, walk. After I got home I walked 3 times a day even if was just walking up and down the parking lot a couple of times.
  7. I did have a cath but it was done after I went to surgery and removed in post op. I knew I would have one but never knew I had one if you know what I mean. Talk to the doctor and ask about it. Just try to remember that the reason they do it is to monitor you and to make sure everything is working properly. Take a deep breath and just focus on the purpose of the surgery....the sleeve....the rest is just a minor detail. Good Luck.

Serious doubts after visit with surgeon (long)

I am in AL and live close to UAB but had my surgery with another office and hospital that is a bariatric center of Excellence. There are insurance companies in AL that do cover the sleeve. I attend monthly support groups and I am seeing more sleevers attending that they are considering splitting the support group (it meets also with bypass patients at this time) and sleevers have their own meeting time. If you have done your reseach and feel that the sleeve is what you want, get a second opinion with another office. I love my sleeve and am glad that my doctor suggested it over having the band.
  9. Congratulations on deciding on the sleeve. I had considered the band but my doctor suggested the sleeve. I have only been sleeved since Dec 1st but I am so happy with my decision. There was never a moment of regret of indecision ever. If your family and friends are not supportive, you have come to the right family here. The sleeve is a tool but I think one of the more successful tools we can have. I have never seen a more caring bunch of people who are generally concerned for you if you are having problems. They tell you like it is when you ask for opinions-it isn't sugar coated. They are there for you when you have those celebrations you want to shout from the mountain top. So welcome to the family.
  10. Welcome. I tried WW several times and the last time at work I only lost 7 lbs and I really tried. I finally decided on WLS and the doctor recommended the sleeve. I am so happy since I have had it done. I weighed 232 at my first doctor appointment and today I weigh 191 and was sleeved on Dec 1st. I never would have been able to do this, if I did not have surgery. I am loving how I feel and can't wait as I keep losing weight to reach goal. This place has been a wealth of information for me.

    It's Finally My Turn!!!

Congratulations...just remember to walk, walk, walk.....Welcome to the other side.
  12. WOW...what a story. I read the entire post. You are such a success story and still going. Keep up the awesome work.
  13. I so with you on this. I am on my 2nd stall since surgery Dec 1st. All I keep reading is to increase your proteins, increase your fluids and increase your calories and lower the carbs, it may push past this. The good thing is that I am not gaining any weight back so I will try to be patient. I am increasing my fiber hoping that may help....I know that wont hurt me.
  14. For Aetna on my plan with the 3 month plan it also required monthly visit with an exercise therapist. Since we couldn't afford another out of pocket expense for that, my husband is just doing the 6 month plan. I kept my visits pretty close to the 30 day mark but did not go past 30 days. Once they had all my paperwork I was approved in 24 hours.
  15. I am so excited to see your results....when I was at my lowest 128 (I was 4 months pregnant and throwing up constantly and was in a size10. Obviously clothes are sized much differently know but I cannot wait. I was a size 22 and my goal is 130 and to think I could be between a 4 or 6 is mind boggling. My goal is 125 but I think anymore than that and I may look to skinny. I may re-evaluate when I get closer. I know that maintence is gonna be hard and I may try to start then I get close and I will probably still lose as I learn to maintain. Good luck in your next phase.

Add to chicken broth to make it not-so-nasty?

I even made french onion soup and drained the onions. The only thing with that is was high in sodium but is sure tasted good.
  17. How everybody reacts to surgery is different. If you read many post here, if there has been complications it has been temporary and once they get past it, they have no regrets. I was one of the lucky ones. I had no issues whatsever. My IV was only during the hospital. I did not have a sore throat but had to learn how to sip instead of huge swallows. I do take Vitamins and hoping that my remaining medications will stop with 3-6 months. I did have diabetes, fatty liver disease and they did a hiatal hernia repair during surgery. I feel so much better and I am pleased on how I am already looking. I can walk in front of a mirror or see my reflection in a window and think WOW. I am looking okay. I use to hate to see my reflection. Do your research and be prepared, if you know worse case scenerios and what needs to be done, it will help you overcome any fear. And if something happens most likely someone else "has been there done that" so I am sure there will be plenty of advise to help you through it. I am 47 and I wish I could had done this years ago. But then I didn't have insurance to cover it then but better late then never.

    Thank You

Hi Cait. I also stalked this site for a few months before I started posting. It has been a wealth of information and support. I have the support of my husband but he does not understand all that I am going through but I am paving the way for him as he will be sleeved in a few months hopefully. I understand the weight I think I peaked at 245 lbs was done to 232 when I went to my first seminar, sleeved Dec 1st and I am now down to 192. I know that the weight is slowly coming off and it will never come back. Yippee....keep posting on how you are doing.

    Rewards?

Most of my milestones or goals are centered around certain event. My first goal was 199 by Christmas....that was just a feel good reward. I am hoping to reach 175 be Mardi Gras Weekend. I go visit some of my family that lives in New Orleans and we have tickets to one of the balls.....a new dress for me. I then have my 30th class reunion in July and hope to be 150 by then....another new hot dress for the weekend and then October is my daughter's wedding...another new dress and at my permanent goal by then.
  20. I was sleeved on Dec 1st. My doctor has a never had a leakage. He checks for leaks at the end of surgery so we don't even have to drink that some people do after surgery. I had first considered the band but then once my doctor said my insurance covers the sleeve and I researched it, there was no turning back. I am loving so far everything. I was one of the lucky ones and have had zero complicatons but I am also following the doctors instruction. Everyone is gonna have some type of horror story they hear no matter what surgery they are considering. I had to do what was best for me and this was definately it. I am almost 48 and my family history was eventually gonna kill me at an early age if I did not do something.Do your research and if it is right for you...go for it. If you know in your heart what you are doing is right, you will not regret it.

    Wanting to Better Myself

You are definately making the right decision. I was sleeved Dec 1st and loving it. It is hard work as it a tool for weight loss but you will not be putting the weight back on. I yo yo dieted for 20 years. Everyone is different on how they respond to the surgery and recovery but if you do your reseach and go in with a postitive attitude, you will not fail.

NO SLEEVE FOR ME!!!! : (

Let your PCP know that the bariatric surgeon is agreeing that the sleeve is a better choice for you. Hopefully he will be supportive otherwise let him know that if he can't be supportive and work with your surgeon then you may have to find another PCP who is supportive. I know that if my PCP was not going to be supportive in my surgery, I would have definately changed to another office.

    anthem bc of illinois

I am not sure of their turnaround time but with most insurance you have to do all the preop first and then it is turned into insurance for approval.

    I've reached Onederland!!

Welcome to Onederland. I made it on Christmas morning. It has been 23 years since I had the one on the scale in the proper place. It is such a great feeling knowing that the 2 will never be back again. You go Girl.

    Got Poop?

I am loving the analogies . I used Miralax for my preop surgery-I had to take the entire 7 day dose the evening before surgery. I was sold on the effective then. I have just started using it again about every 3 days. Hoping that all things work out well.
