  1. Hi All, I haven't been on this site in a while. I have been busy with this crazy life! I just wanted to share that the Lap Band has changed my life and I am so happy. I had my surgery on August 4,2011, I weighed in at 256. This morning I weighted 188lbs. It has been a lot of working out and really watching my portions. I currently have 5.5ccs and I do feel restriction. I get stuck sometimes... god is that awful.... but it is always because I have tried to eat too fast or not chew enough. I came to share this with you, because i was thinking how much this site helped me in the beginning couple of months. I had so many questions and concerns. It felt so good to see that people were making progress and taking time out to give us newbies advice. So, to any of you just starting out... be patient,exercise (it's not so bad ) and follow your Dr.'s advice. It will come off, really!!! Good luck everyone! Laurie

  3. Thank you... I started walking a couple weeks after surgery and joined the gym a month after. I started out slow and set goals for myself on the treadmil and eliptical. I know the gym is not for everyone but I feel pretty strongly that you need to find some form of exercise that you are willing to do 3-5 times a week. I know some friends that do a mixture of either kickboxing, swimming, yoga or just standard gym workout. I signed up to do a 5K a week from Sunday, so every other day at the gym I really focus on running. The other days I work on the weight machines or do the eliptical or stairmaster. I try and take advantage of the various classes at the gym on the weekend, I have tried yoga,zumba,cycling and body pump. It is good to try it all and see what sticks. I hope that is helpful!     the new me !

    So cool!! I was banded in August and I started my pre op diet at 256 and I weighed in at 203 this morning!!! It is so amazing... I will say that I think I am at a great fill amount for me (at least for now) and i exercise 6 days a week and watch what I eat..it is all worth it! Good Job and Good Luck to everyone!

    To gym or not to gym?

    Maybe you could get a complimentary three day pass from your local gym and see if you like the vibe! I was never a gym person before, but i really like it! I like that there is variety. I have had to work on not worrying about anyone in there but me... but you know what it has worked out great for me. I do cardio three days a week and mix it up between the eliptical, treadmill and bike or stair machine. The other two or three days I do the machines. At the gym I go to they told me if I did the machines along a certain wall, I would be getting a full body workout! On the flip side, in the past I was also able to lose weight from exercise at home. I bought dumbbells and a mat and and looked up exercises on line... if you have a smart phone there is an app called JEFIT, it is very handy. Good Luck!!

    Definitely sound like you need a fill.. I was banded in August too and have been losing about 2 lbs a week. My nurse practitioner said no fill the last time, but that if I needed one before my next visit to come on in.. Make an appointment and keep up the good work. I think 2 lbs a week is fabulous!!
  13. We don't always lose every week and you actually did!!! It is so important to just keep watching what you eat and exercise. It will come off! Don't get discouraged! Have a wonderful weekend!

    How fabulous! Congratulations and thanks for sharing. It is so nice to hear the success stories that have a couple bumps in the road as most of us to encounter them!
  16. Hi all, I just got my second fill... she only put .5 cc in but I had lost 16lbs in the 6 weeks since my last fill. I will take the .5cc and see how this next 6 weeks go! Good Luck to everyone!

  18. All of these are great ideas.. the other one I can think of is changing up your exercise routine.. instead of running to some more strength training... I hear a lot of people say we need to keep switching up the exercise if we want to keep losing. Good luck!

    I would start telling them. It feels good to share and there will always be some people that have a weird stance on it, but who can argue with results!
  20. Thank you for all of your feedback. I think i will go through the next session and get more of a vibe on him and then decide. Jadebrasil.. I live in Los Angeles and belong to 24 hr. Fitness... it is 150 for three sessions. He will write up a plan for me to stick to after those three sessions and give me goals to work towards. It is really a great thing to help push you a little harder than we typically push ourselves.
  21. Hi all, I have been working out regularly on my own at the gym and one of the trainers offered me a free session.. it went great. I am thinking of signing up for a three pack with him... my question is if I should tell him about my lap band?? I am not at all ashamed of it and all of my friend and co workers know and i have been more supportive then I could have ever dreamed. I am just not sure how it will be preceived in that environment and if it even matters..thoughts?
  22. I have an appointment on the 6th.. they put 4cc in the first visit. I am feeling pretty good. I don't have trouble with any foods and never feel really "full" but I feel great and have been losing regularly. Are you all planning on getting the second fill? I was thinking of waiting since the weight is coming off..
  23. Okay, this is a big posting day for me as I usually more lurker than poster.... First let me say that I am so happy wit my band. I was banded August 4th and including my two week pre diet, I am down 35lbs. I have been working out 5-6 days a week and I log everything I eat. I do feel that the band has helped me stay full between meals, but I don't feel any crazy restriction. I think alot of my success has been me wanting this really bad and making good decisions. With that being said, should I get a fill? One part of me says no, just keep pushing on this path and wait until i hit a plateau. I am taking it day by day, but I have to tell you that I would really like to be one of the people that can work off the 100lbs in under a year! Will I reach my goal sooner with the fill? I always like hearing your thoughts... thanks! Laurie

    HELP!!! Gaining weight

    I am no expert, but I would go back to what you were doing while you were losing. If I ate more than three small meal per day( and maybe one snack) I would gain weight! That is what my body seems to do. I stick to my calories and smaller meals and I am steadily losing. I don't know if these Dr's always take into account how differently all of our bodies work. Again, I am no expert but that is my opinion! good luck!
