  1. I am having the same problem! I have been bouncing up and down the same 2 pounds for 2 weeks now. I get so depressed that I went through this ordeal and the loss has stopped already but I know deep down that it is just a stall and I WILL get losing again soon. It is hard to look on the bright side, but it is helpful to see that it happens to us all....guess misery loves company, right?

    Diabetes and The Sleeve

Well, I can tell you that I was on Metformin 1000mg 2x a day, Celebrex 200 mg 2x a day, Glyburide 5 mg 1x a day & Lisonopril 40 mg 1x a day. I am currently not taking ANY of the above anymore. Now, I may need to start taking a low dose Metformin for a little while now that I am eating solids again, but I won't know that for another week or so. We are watching my sugars which are still the lowest they have been in over 10 years!!! It is a miracle, we just have to make sure we have learned our lessons and can keep it moving forward!

    Spicy foods??

Hey thinoneday, I do eggbeaters (only single serving - 1/4 cup) with a slice of fat free cheese. I am able to eat about 50-75% of it. Much easier on our new tummies than real eggs (and better for us too!)

    Spicy foods??

I ate an extremely hot sliced jalape?o with my dinner tonight....it felt so good to eat one again...I have missed them!!!
  5. Loser, you will definatley feel full, even bloated. Laura, it is not stupid, it is habit. I have a hard time too. My kids had friends over and I snuck 1 stupid BBQ chip and it tasted so good.....until it hit my new tummy. Then it hurt like a b*tch! LOL!!! I have not tried any since! I also ate a couple pieces of candy they brought home one day, some new chewable nerd eggs. Since I eat so little now, my sugar went berserk and I was in bed the rest of the day. Now everytime I see candy I think of how THAT felt. These are the habits that got us here in the first place and now we have a wonderful tool to help us break them! Good luck!
  6. At less than 6 weeks and I am down 42 pounds. I have not been able to exercise yet since I had some bad pain afterwards and then the entire city froze and has stayed frozen. I hope to start walking as soon as the weather allows.

    Gas

I also had the pain real bad so I got myself some Equate extra strength gas relief chewable tablets from Walmart. I also was told to stop chewing gum as that really adds swallowed air and causes even more gas pain. Now the pain is basically gone (though gas is with us for awhile)...LOL!

Changes with Taste Post Op - Newbie Here! :)

I am STUCK with boxes and boxes of Carnation and Body Fortress, both of which I LOVED before the surgery. As you can guess, I cannot swallow either of them now!!!! I have tried dozens of brands and have not found one I can drink yet. I am waiting on my latest round of samples to arrive so I can throw them out too...LOL! I do get the Body Fortress Liquid Protein Shots from Walmart. They don't taste great either but they are a small amount and easy to swallow to get my protein in.
  9. I am at 5 1/2 weeks and let me tell you, I cannot STAND to eat anymore. Nothing tastes as good as it once did and after a few bites, I am done. I just made a morningstar foods riblet for my dinner tonight and the smell was wonderful. Too bad I could only eat half of it and gave it to the kids. It was yummy but too after a few bites I was no longer hungry. It's funny, I spend so much time looking up recipes and nutritional values of food and then when it comes time to eat it, I can't. I can't even get in 500 calories a day yet. No way I will be fat for long....LOL!!!
  10. I have been on Pepcid 20mg twice a day since the hospital as well as Ursodiol twice a day to prevent gallstones. I was told I will remain on these for at least the first year.

    streching the sleeve

The sleeve is supposed to stretch a little after it heals and you start eating. It has to or else you would be unable to eat regular foods. As far as over-stretching it, it is possible but not as easy as in the other surgeries. Just be sensible with your eating, quit when you are full, and it will be fine.

    Milk

I am almost at 3 weeks out and I am drinking fat free skim milk with SF carnation instant breakfast added to it. I just started trying to keep a log of my intake so I started using My Plate. I was shocked to see that each cup (14 protein) also added up to 20 grams of sugar!!! Now my sugar intake is actually higher than my protein. I am confused at to whether or not this is healthy and why it was recommended in the first place. Anyone else run into this issue?I do not see the doc or nutritionist until the 19th!

    The noises

LOL...my doctor says it is all normal and that it is my body's reaction to everything being moved around so much during surgery. Normal or not, it is embarrassing as heck! Seems worse when I am drinking more and sitting a lot, which of course I have to do at work. I just keep rubbing my tummy and trying not to be too red-faced. I am told that this, like all things, will pass eventually too.

    Concerned

I spoke to the hospital regarding the protein shots and they said they were fine. They said any way you can get it in. I buy a 6 pack at Walmart for $9.99. I have also bought some from GNC but they were more expensive, but some had up to 52 grams of protein instead of 26. Since none of them tasted all that great, I went for the Walmart ones...LOL!

    On the right track !!!

Hooray!!! I cannot wait till this weather breaks and we can see the pavement outside again. I have not gotten any walking in yet and I know I need to start soon! Congrats on your hard work!

    Concerned

I am 3 1/2 weeks out and am having difficulty as well. I have tried all these Protein powders, the carnation instant Breakfast, everything. YUCK! Even drinks I liked before make me want to start heaving with one sip. I also am allergic to aspartame so I cannot do many of the drinks or SF puddings, etc. I do try to take one protein shot a day which has 26 grams of protein in it. It does not taste good either, but the vial is easier and quicker to get down. I have tried baked fish (gross) and most items make me want to throw up rather than eat more. I actually bought some cheeses (fat-free slices and a brick of blue cheese). I like the slices melted and have eaten some of the brick of cheese. Since I am usually under 500 calories a day, I figured I could afford the regular cheese. Tonight I am hard boiling an egg to try and make some egg salad with Kraft FreeMayo. I am hoping I will be able to eat it! I do go see my nutritionist next week so I am hoping she can help guide me some more. I know she won't be thrilled with me but at least I am honest...LOL! The most important thing is to get your liquids in. I have messed up a couple times and found myself very dizzy/lightheaded and getting numbness in my legs. When I check my daily list, I can see I missed too much Water.

    Insomnia

I also have a terrible time with sleep. I am able to fall asleep most nights but I am not able to sleep more than 2 or 3 hours before I wake up and NOT fall asleep again. My doctor has me on Ambien to fall asleep and Trazodone to stay asleep. Now I am able to get a solid 6 or 7 hours a night!
  18. How long were you in surgery? a little over an hour I believe Did you have a private room post op? Oh yes! How many days did you stay? 4 days At the worst point, how would you rate your pain? (o-10 with 0 being the least amt of pain) 8, the worst pains were when they took my down for the leak test day 2 What kind of pain killers did they use? morphine and liquid Vicodin Did they work? yeppers! What did you do to pass the time? (I don't like to sit for long and I will walk the hospital all day long if they let me) I watched TV, sat in the chair (usually on my cell) or when feeling better walked the halls What did you take for entertainment? I took too much and used nothing....watched hospital TV and texted on my phone How did you pack and what would you leave at home if you were to do it over again? I thought I only took necessities but I was wrong. Only needed cell phone, deodorant and underwear. Also a big picture of my kids I kept next to TV for encouragement! PS: My surgery was at Cleveland Clinic
  19. I was told (and given documents) that say no drinking 30 minutes before or after eating. The before is to make sure that you have room for your protein in your new tiny tummy and the after is to keep you from washing the food through quicker. Down the line the concern is you will wash the food through too quick and be hungry again sooner. I have ALWAYS been a huge drinker and I am unable to wait after eating. I have to have at least a few sips after I eat. I have managed to stop my kids and myself from drinking while I am getting dinner ready and we no longer drink ANYTHING during our meals. I have seen that the kids are eating better and are not as hungry later so I guess there is something to it.
  20. I am taking a Spring Valley Gummie Multi Vitamin from Walmart. I cannot take any aspartame and most of the chewables use it (including Flintstones). They are not expensive and taste good! I also take chewable vitamin C from Walmart!
  21. I used to LOVE those syrups...have a bunch of them but I cannot STAND them anymore. They make me wanna gag! As if the protein powders aren't bad enough! I used to love Carnation Instant Breakfast (SF) but now I am lucky to get one or two sips down. And I actually stocked up on it before the surgery (before I read not to on this forum). The little things that I used to love that turn me off now...LOL. I guess I will wait and see if the likes come back down the line.

    Drinking Water

I am 3 weeks out and can do a 16 oz bottle in 20 min or so, longer if I am not thirsty. I like my drinks cold, but I tend to swish them around in my mouth a lot and not drink everything in one swallow.

    High blood presure

I am only 3 weeks out and not eating properly or getting enough walking in (nothing but snow and freezing here for a week!!!), but I still have been able to drop my BP med in half and my sugar meds in 1/4th. I am praying that with time and patience I can get rid of it all!!!

    Tuna Rice Casserole

It sounds good but I have to agree with Cajun. I also was told to avoid those things too. I actually was warned that bread, rice & pasta get gummy and dried fruits and coconut get sticky. I would rather be safe than sorry, plus I want to lose as much as possible this first year when it is the easiest. Good luck!

    Worst pre-op diet ever!!!

It is hard, but worth it. I spent 5 days with FF milk and carnation instant breakfast drink, 5 times a day and that was it. I thought it was hard until I moved onto 2 days of bowel prep that was clear liquids only. Then while I was waiting on the table for the anesthesiologist, my main concern was could I try to use the restroom one last time. I was so nervous that I would soil myself on the table....LOL! Your body will be glad you went through this extra work before surgery. That pesky liver is big and slippery so the pre-op diet is supposed to help shrink it down and make it less slippery. The doctors have a lot of work to do and everything gets moved all around so any help we can do to drop the chances of complications are worth it.
