  1. Everyone is different.

I had almost no pain at all. After I went home - the 2nd day- I think I took liquid Lortab 2 times.. I had a little discomfort but not pain. I went back to work after 2 weeks. I could have gone back in a week. I was completely fine.

You may be one of those without the pain or with some.. No one can tell you exactly how YOU will feel.

Good luck. I am praying for you.

  2. I have been reading all your posts and I am so inspired!!

    I need help!!!!

I was sleeved on 8/9/2010. When I went for my 2-wk post op appt, I had lost 20 lbs since a month before.. (pre-op and post op).

I don't feel any progress any more. I am afraid to weigh myself.

My stomach feels big - I don't feel any change.

I am full all the time.

I am glad I have no pain or discomfort.

My problem is that I am unable to eat anything.. If I eat anything I throw up.. I have trouble drinking.. I can't get in all my fluids.. I try to get at least 60 gm of Protein in.. and by then I am so, so full..

is that why I am not losing, because I am not drinking?

My pants still don't feel loose. I do look like I have lost weight in my face, though.. :)

Pls tell me I will lose. Sometimes a thought crosses my mond that I will be the one that will not lose - but then again, that does not make sense given that I don't eat.

    I should lose.

Or is my stomach still swollen from the surgery?

one good thing though, I sleep so well...

I tried to look for a buddy so I can get coached through the process but I was not successful. A few said they would help then disappeared on me. I even met one buddy but she never contacted me after our meeting. Would someone please like to help me?

Thank you all... Excuse the tirade!!

  3. Thanks for encouragement. Today was a better day.. I drank almost 50 gr of Protein and 40 of water.. Yippee!!! I was really full earlier but not too bad now... I believe it will get better.. Went to my Dr.'s office and had drains removed.. I was not weighed.. Will do my first weighin on my 2week post op next Friday.. Good luck to you.. I hope you continue to add on the beverages..

  4. I got sleeved on Monday, 8/9 in Dallas Tx.

So far so good.. no pain.. but I can't drink much.. I fear not being able to get in all the protein.. I go to have my pump removed tomorrow and will ask the Dr. what to do. Ask anything.. I don't know much since I am so new but will share what I know..

  5. I was sleeved on 8/9.

So far so good. No pain whatsoever but I have a pain tube goin in my stomach.

I get it removed tomorrow.. I also have a drain on the other side. Both will be removed.

My issue is in getting in all that Protein.. So far I am getting about 50 g.

I am reallystruggling.. Everytime I sip I gag.. I get so full. No hunger at all..

Pls let me know what to do.

Can't wait to be on the loser's bench.. so far I can see lbs melting from my face..

  6. I think your weight loss is ok... but I am not a good judge since I have not been sleeved. I will start my preop diet tomorrow, 7/26. I get sleeved on 8/9. I will be sure to update how it is going.

I would love to lose slowly. One thing I did not like about the gastric bypass is how quickly the weight came off.. of course including the malabsorption and the whole bypass issue.. That is why I chose the sleeve..

I would like to lose my 70 lbs in a year.. not in 6 months.. we'll see what happens..

Be encouraged and pls continue to update us.

  7. I have a surgery date. August 9th.

I need someone who has had a good experience with the Sleeve Surgey to coach me through the process.

I have a pre-op appt on Monday, 7/26. Need to know how to prepare, what to ask, what to expect and then we can go from there.

    I sure do appreciate this.

    Thank you.

  9. Hi,

Please tell me what your surgeon had to ask to be approved by Aetna.. the girl at my surgeons office keeps telling me she knows Aetna will deny me without a psych evaluation. I did one yesterday.. I hope I get approved.. I have seen a nutritionist and my pcp has written a letter of medical necessity.

    Thank you.

Insurance Company to Cover Newer Method of Bariatric Surgery

by Kerri Seidler on April 21, 2010 ? Comments | Weight Loss Surgery

Aetna.jpgAetna, one of the nations largest health insurers, revised its policy on obesity surgery this month to include open and laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy among its covered bariatric procedures.

The sleeve gastrectomy procedure, often referred to as the gastric sleeve, is a newer method of bariatric surgery that is gaining in popularity as a treatment for morbid obesity.

The gastric sleeve promotes weight loss by reducing the size of the stomach to help patients eat less and feel full faster. It appeals to many patients as it does not require a medical implant or need adjustments like laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding and does not require cutting and rerouting the small intestine like the gastric bypass procedures.

Prior to the policy change, Aetna considered the sleeve gastrectomy ?investigational? and did not cover the surgery. As of 4/9/2010, Aetna revised its Clinical Policy Bulletin for Obesity Surgery and stated that the ?sleeve gastrectomy is considered medically necessary when criteria are met.?

The policy now reads: Aetna considers open or laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB), open or laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, open or laparoscopic biliopancreatic diversion (BPD) with or without duodenal switch (DS), or laparoscopic adjustable silicone gastric banding (LASGB) medically necessary when the selection criteria listed below are met.

Although the sleeve gastrectomy is included under bariatric procedures, coverage for obesity surgery is still dependent on benefit plan details and approval by Aetna.

Aetna?s decision follows in the footsteps of United Healthcare, another healthcare giant, which began covering the procedure in October 2009.

In response to the Aetna and United Healthcare change in policy, The American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) issued a press release announcing its support. In the statement, John W. Baker, MD, FACS, President of ASMBS, said ?We are pleased that Aetna and United Healthcare now includes sleeve gastrectomy among its covered bariatric procedures?Sleeve gastrectomy has now reached that threshold where the data and our experience with the procedure supports its safe and effective use in people affected by the chronic disease of morbid obesity.?

The ASMBS, which is the largest organization for bariatric surgeons in the world, is a non-profit group committed to educating medical professionals, patients, and the general public to the various effects, risks, and benefits of bariatric surgery.

The decision of Aetna and United Healthcare to cover gastric sleeve will benefits patients who are morbidly obese and considering weight loss surgery. While weight loss surgery is the most effective treatment for morbid obesity, it should not be considered a ?one size fits all? approach. As the best surgical intervention for obesity can vary from patient to patient, insurers who cover a wider range of options will better allow surgeons to treat patients on a more personal basis.
