    Mexico or Bust!!!

I had my VSG surgery on 03/18/11 by Dr. Almanza in Tijuana, Mexico. My consultant was Nina. Her website is bariatricinmexico.com. The best thing about using her is that she sticks with you every step of the way. My cousin and I flew into San Diego and was picked up by the hospital van the next morning. It took about 20 minutes to get from the airport to the hospital. We had our bloodwork done, got ekg's, met with the doctor to discuss any questions and then had surgery. We stayed one night at the hospital with around the clock care. We spent the next night at the recovery house with around the clock care. The next day we went back to San Diego because we had early morning flights the following morning. Everything went very well. My high weight was 196. CW183. I feel great. My coordinator Nina met us at the hospital on the morning of surgery. She took us to the recovery house as well. There were two other patients that had surgery on the same day as my cousin and I. There coordinators never even showed up. Nina has called to check on us a couple of times since we returned back to the states. I just talked to her two days ago because I had some questions about exercise. Everyone at Dr.Almanza's was great. They were really friendly and knew what they were doing. The "hospital" would actually be considered a surgical center here in the states. But it is clean and they have everything that you need. None of the posts that I read before I had surgery told me that I would feel like crap after surgery. Be prepared to feel sore and nauseated for the first 24-48 hours. By day three you will be fine. At least that was my experience. My cousin who has a higher BMI than me has lost over 25 lbs and we had surgery the same day! I am a little upset at how slow my weight loss is but if your bmi is low it's gonna come off a little slower. I wish you luck and success in your weight loss journey. Keep me posted on what you decide to do.
  2. Thanks Tiffykins. I was just reading one of your other posts about the 3-4 week stall. It made me feel much better to know that this is "normal". At least now I know what to expect. Congrats on the baby! I look forward to following all of your progress with the little one.
  3. Good morning! I was sleeved 17 days ago. I have lost 13 lbs so far. I was really expecting to lose more. Maybe I am just anxious to lose but it does seem like most people have a big weight loss during the first two weeks. I am just checking to see if I am doing something wrong. Please share your stories on how your first two weeks post-op went. I am the same weight on day 17 as I was on day 10. Yikes!!!! This isnt what I expected at all. I was 196 to start and now I am 183. I've heard that the lower your BMI the slower it comes off. I am just checking to see what you guys experienced.
  4. Skinny, I had my VSG done on 03/18/11. I can drink plenty of fluids too. I also feel like I can eat solids already. I actually ate three teaspoons of solid food two days ago while I was preparing dinner for my kids. It was a moment of weakness. I had no pain what-so-ever. However, I did feel full. I am so thankful that I didnt get a leak from eating too soon!!! I am just sharing my story with you to let you know that you are not alone. Yesterday made one week from my surgery date and I have lost 10 lbs. I renewed my commitment to myself to follow the liquid diet and get in as much Protein as possible. I feel like I risked my life by having this surgery and I am not going to risk it again by eating myself into complications. HW196, CW186 GW135. It's time that we find other things to keep us busy so that we wont be so focused on food and being full. At least that is my plan for now. LOL. I wish you much success, and I will keep you posted!
