  1. Hi , I am 58 and probably looking at a june surgery date (or sooner) and I would love to correspond with someone in this same time frame and around the same age, I also want to hear from those who have had their surgery around my age and how things are going. I am so worried about the hair loss so I will have my pretty wig waiting if the need comes up. I worry more about long term side effects than immediate side effects. I have a wonderful dr. and team and I get so excited about the future then I am on the fence again. I have a friend who had it done and she says all of these feelings are common, but they go away. My son-in-law was banded in Feb. and it has been some struggle but he seems to be fine and is now back at work. As far as the sagging skin people talk about , SPANX are wonderful. I won't have PS. Looking forward to hearing from all of you.

    Banded Yesterday & Miserable, 5/21/12

Good Luck to all of you. I was approved for the surgery and had done my 6 month DR. supervised program for cigna and got scared , When I did finally decide to do it My husband was diagnosed with Cancer and I backed out again because I had to be able to do for him, well he is better and I am seriously thinking about calling my surgeon's office and getting it all lined up again and getting the ball rolling. My 6 month program was good for 2 years and that is up in Jan 2013 so I really need to decide. I am so scared but I know it is what I need. I wish all of you the best of luck and sure hope things go well. Peggy
  3. I have read so much on the site and a lot of it is really helpful, but I really get scared when I hear about most everyone having so many problems. I know it isn't a bed of roses and I know we have to really work hard, but all of the negatives scare me. I look to have my surgery around mid- august , but I keep doubting my decision. If you have the band and things have went well, please let me know, I need to read about the good and the bad. Thank you and good luck to all.
  4. Thank you for sharing, it really helps to hear the good things about the surgery too. Peggy
  5. Thanks Dave for replying, It helps to hear the positives too. Peggy
  6. Thanks for your reply. I just feel like it helps me to see the positives along the journey as well as negatives. Good Luck.
  7. Thanks for responding, It was good to see that there are ones who haven't had so many problems. It is a little of both I guess, and I know that some think that the band will answer all their problems, but my surgeon has me completely beleiving that along with the band I will still be working hard on my part too and I am ready for that. Thanks again and Good Luck.
  8. Wow, that is great that you haven't had to be filled.

    fifties and pre-op surgery support

Hello and HAPPY EASTER to all, I just want to let you all know we are in this journey together, and for the people who say we are taking the easy way out, well I say to them , are you nuts, this is anything but EASY, I have seen the hard work my friend and son-in-law have had to do, Do people think we are doing this out of laziness well i personally think most of them are JEALOUS because they know we are going to look better and feel better after all is said and done, so I say to all HOLD YOUR HEAD UP HIGH, BE PROUD OF YOURSELF, and don't worry about others feelings are or what they say, wait till you lose your weight and then see what they have to say, and to all who are being so supportive , God Bless you. You will always have support on this website, and know that we are all backing each other.

    fifties and pre-op surgery support

Hey Taralynn, I was so glad to hear from you and before I go any further , I wish you the very best of luck.As far as telling anyone, I can't really say, I have told my sisters and my co-workers, and I feel like if they have a problem with it , that is their choice, everyone seems to be supportive of it.I am fine if they do or not. I am doing what I feel is right for me. As far as the weight ticker, I already have mine up and if I lose a pound, I put it on there, every pound lost is one pound closer to my goal.. I went to my surgeons appt on april 12 and weighed 265 and now I am 259 and I am determined to be down to 255 on may13 when I go back, and every pound will go on my ticker. The hair loss worries me, but I already have my pretty wig waiting if necessary. I also worry about the sagging skin, but I don't think I would ever have that skin removed, I am so deathly afraid of infection. But that is just me. I haven't put a picture up yet, but I want to this weekend. I will have to get my daughter to help me, I am not to good with all that picture stuff on the computers. My husband will be good with whatever I do. He is always supportive of what I do. I will probably be off about 4 weeks, because I cook for approx. 150 kids each day 2 meals and a snack, and I have quite a bit of lifting and we can't lift nothing heavier than 1-2 phone books. I think my surgery will be around the first to the middle of june. I have another appt. with the therapist on the 15th of may and then they will sentd the papers to my insurance. OH, I had to get my daughter to put my ticker up. You take care and again , GOOD LUCK and keep in touch. E-mail hartroanoke@aol.com Peggy
  20. Hello to all , well I went to my surgeon and the dietician yesterday and got the rest of my lab work done, I was a little disappointed, the nurse wants me to lose 10-15 more pounds before next month, My therapist appt is friday 15th. I dread that. after that all my papers will be sent to the insurance. :)

  22. Dear Kelly, We are all in this together and for the ones who say this is the lazy way out, well like I told a lady this week, this is anything but the lazy out, are these people stupid , I will be banded within the next month and 1/2 , but my son-in-law was banded in feb and it has been anything but easy, by the way he has already lost 42 lbs, and now is doing fine but it can be hard at times but thats where we all can support each other. Forget what they say and think of how good you will look as that weight starts to leave. Good luck. hopeful one

    This is HARD!!!!

Hi Mick, I have not been banded yet, but I can't hardly wait. As for the depression , IT DOES GET BETTER, my son-in-law was banded feb 28 and he too was depressed but it passes and he has already lost 42 lbs, so hang in there and it won't be long till you are so proud of yourself. I hope to have my surgery in may or early june, maybe sooner. this forum has been a true blessing to me, I was so scared at first I almost backed out , but now I am sooooooooready to do it. Hang in there. Hopeful one
