Be Honest- Is Banded Life Hard?

This is going to sound horrible and I am totally embarrassed but here goes: I was banded in March 2011. I followed a pre surgery liquid diet and was supposed to drink Protein shakes for a full month after the surgery. Yeah, right. I ate at my birthday party April 1. I got back on track and started working out and lost 30 pounds. I lost my job in June so when I went for my second fill I had not lost a single pound. I have found every way possible to circumvent this band. I wish I had never gotten it in the first place because my issues and addiction to food needed to be dealt with first. I had my lapband done in San Diego and now live in Indiana. I am trying to find a doctor who will see me as I am having so much acid indigestion I could just cry. I'm pretty sure my band has slipped and I have no medical insurance. Please please think long and hard about the band. If you have any mental food issues like I have then this band is not for you. I would not wish this on anyone!! Good luck!
  2. I was banded a week ago today and felt the same thing! I tried Prilosec, Gas X and peppermint tea. I don't know if any of it really worked but the pain did go away. I couldn't drink more than one shake a day and a cup of broth and it hurt so bad. My husband bought sugar free popsicles so I could als get a little hydration. Every day the pain eased up considerably. It went away in two days and now at one week I am feeling so much better! It feels like my stomach is growling but I don't think it is and I only have the slightest pain on the left side where my stomach/band is. No pain killers on day 4 or 5 for me. I hope this helps!! Stay well! I was banded less than 24 hours ago. For most of the day and into the evening I had extreme shoulder pain. I am taking Gas X and using a heating pad for that. I also have vicodin. The shoulder and back pain is mostly dull now. But I also have a very tight pain in the middle of my breast bone? Is this gas as well? I've not been able to drink more than 2 oz broth and 2 oz protien shake. But I was told most important was to stay hydrated, and I've been slowly sipping warm Water to avoid dehydration. What the heck is this pain? It dulls with heating pad, but not all the way. I've gotten up and walked the hall a couple times, but I'm so weak that this is really difficult, so I've stayed comfy on a recliner. I'm sure this is all normal. But I've had little sleep, it's 4:30 am and I'm practically in tears over this, maybe I just need to talk it out.....

    Surgery 3/30/11 So nervous!

Hi! I'm Jennifer and I was just banded a week ago today. I was nervous, too and the medical staff was amazing. I woke up in pain and they immediately pumped pain killers into my IV and kept me until I was pain free but still alert and able to go home. I stayed in bed the first day then walked around in Costco the next day. I had to take the prescription pain killer every four hours for the first two days. I was banded on Friday and went back to work on Monday. Took one pain pill at work then another when I got home and have been walking for my 30 min lunch break. I feel noticeably better and better each day. Right now I have a small centralized area of pain on my left side where my stomach was banded. I can almost sleep on that side but not quite. I am ready to exercise and feel quite good. My follow up appt is next Friday and I will weigh myself for the first time then. It has been difficult drinking 3 protein shakes a day because I don't feel that hungry and don't enjoy them. I have been drinking only 2 shakes and peppermint tea, chicken broth, lemon water. I hope this helps and wish you the very best of luck!!!!!
  4. I have never joined a forum but think this will be a great support system for me. I was banded this past Friday, March 18 by Dr. Khalil at Gastric Band Medical Group in San Diego. I went back to work yesterday- Monday- and am feeling noticeably better each day. My only complaint right now is the worst heartburn ever! Has anyone else experienced this? For how long? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
