  1. Hello Everyone,

It has awhile since my last post! I am currently down 126 pounds and still have another 65 pounds to go. Since my surgery, my weight loss has been good, but slowed down a little because I started incorporating more carbs into my diet. Plus, I am having gallbladder surgery on tomorrow :-( Not happy at all, but not surprised after reading it was common for people who lose large amounts of weight within a short amount of time.

With that said, I have a few questions. Is it hard to lose weight after having your gallbladder removed? Are there complications? Am I more prone to dumping? Is it true that once the gallbladder has been removed I am more prone to gaining weight in my stomach? I have read a lot of different posts online regarding this procedure and very nervous about what to expect, considering I still have another 65 pounds left to lose. Anyone who has had gallbladder surgery before or after VSG, please, please, please share your experiences with weight loss etc.

    Thanks in advance!

    All the best,

    Lady E.

i'm not sure i understand if you can't stomach the meat why would you try to whole taco? i mean no harm but if you know it will upset your stomach why try it. i say take you time 9 weeks out is still faily new. don't rush it i say try something else with less ingredients. just a thought i hear eating the wrong things are no fun.

    thickinphilly.

    Hi thickphilly,

Thanks for your response. I know you don't mean any harm :-) I can stomach eating the meat, its just I can't stand to eat the meat without the taco shell as of lately (the meat tastes funny to me now w/o the shell). It's kind of like how some people are with Protein shakes (myself included), you can drink them, but the taste of the shake makes you want to gag.

  3. Also try meatballs, they have those adeill's meatballs at costco.

Someone just posted a pizza made with cauliflower for the crust. I'm going to try that tomorrow.

The ricotta bake for me has been a life saver. I have made it all sorts of different flavors, make it sort of like a shepherd's pie or an italian pie, or a taco pie. Brown ground beef and season with whtever you like to make it taste like real food, cover with the ricotta bake topping....all in a lasagna pan, bake and it is sooo good...the italian one for me was like eating lasagna.

I loved sliced deli meat wrapped around a laughing cow wedge....roast beef around blue cheese, chicken or turkey around the garlic spiced one....

    Hi Cknorte,

I am going to have to try some of those meatballs. I actually have been looking for frozen , but just wasn't sure what to buy. And yesss I am going to try the ricotta bake. Regarding the cauliflower pizza, I am actually the one who posted the recipe. It is soooo good :-)

  4. If you really want to eat bread, there is some new really thin bread

in the grocery stores these days. They are shaped like hamburger Buns but they are very thin. One slice or half of this bun like shape, is 50 calories. I doubt if you'd be able to eat the whole thing.

Have you tried the ricotta bake that's in the recipe section? It's good and full of Protein. Bread has no Protein in it but you could try the deli meat with it if you're cleared for solids.

    Hi Oregondaisy,

Thanks for you response. I will have to purchase some of this thin bread. Do you know the brand? I haven't tried the ricotta bake yet, but I am going to be trying that out soon since I have read so many great things about this dish :-)

  5. A recipe that I discovered after I was cleared to eat regular foods was on the worldaccordingtoeggface website. However, after I made it I thought it would have been great to eat during my mushy stage. The recipe was for a crab and shrimp bake. OMG it was soooo good. My only suggestion would be if you decide to make the bake is to either avoid adding shrimp or add the shrimp and don't eat them. Also I made the mistake of not draining the Tomato juice from the canned tomatoes and that made it mushy, but all in all it taste great :-)

Here is the link to the recipe:

  6. Hi Everyone,

I am now 9 weeks post op, is it too soon for me to eat a taco from Taco Bell or make my own? As of now, I can't stomach eating taco meat by itself anymore (hopefully this will pass) :-(

Thanks in advance for your suggestions/comments :-)

  7. Thank you soooo much for replying to my post.

@cwalker- Thank you for the encouraging words and good luck with your weight loss, you don't have much left to lose I see :-) I am also going to look into getting the swiss chicken burgers they sound yummy. I also recently broke my stall and I know you will break yours too. I forced myself to drink a Protein shake for a couple of days and the next thing I know, I lost 10 pounds.

@ Eureka- Thank you as well for the congrats on the weight loss and I look forward to seeing you on the losers side :-) and yesss that was one of the reasons I wanted to get the sleeve too. I still wanted to be able to eat normal food and not feel to deprived.

  8. I tried these receipes this past weekend and they were yummy to my tummy. Great alternative from eating regular pizza.< /p>

    Cauliflower Pizza

1 cup cooked or uncooked, riced cauliflower*

    1 egg

    1 cup mozzarella cheese

    1/2 tsp fennel

    1 tsp oregano

    2 tsp parsley

Preheat oven to 450 degrees Farenheit.

Spray a cookie sheet with non-stick spray.

In a medium bowl, combine cauliflower, egg and mozzarella. Press evenly on the pan. Sprinkle evenly with fennel, oregano and parsley.

Bake at 450 degrees for 12-15 minutes (15-20 minutes if you double the recipe).

Remove the pan from the oven. To the crust, add sauce, then toppings and cheese. For the sauce I used Great Value Pizza Sauce it has 4 carbs per 1/4 cup, the toppings I used were turkey pepperoni and low fat mozzarella cheese, but of course feel free to use any healthy toppings you like :-)

Here is the link to the receipe if you want to see pictures (when I first made it, I found it hard to believe that this Pizza Crust was made from cauliflower because it looked like the real thing):

    http://www.examiner.com/low-carb-in-national/cauliflower-pizza-crust-worth-its-wow-gold

    Pizza Crackers

I doubt if this receipe is new to anyone on here, but I thought it was another great alternative for pizza. Please check with your surgeon or nut first to make sure you are cleared to eat crackers (please eat in moderation).

3-5 Saltine multi wheat crackers (10 carbs for 5 crackers) or whichever crackers you prefer

Top with pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese and turkey pepperoni (or other toppings to your liking)

Place either in the microwave for 10 seconds or until cheese is melted, or in the oven on broil for 5-10 min

This snack is soooo good and a another great alternative for pizza. Plus it's a good meal to eat on the go.

  9. Hello Everyone,

It has been awhile since I posted. I am now 6 weeks post op and have lost a total of 41 pounds. I have been given the ok by my surgeon to start eating regular foods 4 weeks post op. As of recently, my weight loss has slowed. Since that time, some of my food choices have not been the best, or I have no desire to eat (or the things I want to eat such as bread, I cannot have). One of the bad food choices consisted of me eating 8 piece nuggets at chick-fil-a a couple of times, I have also had the insides of a taco or taco salad w/o the shell from taco bell(just meat, lettuce and cheese), and pepper steak w/o rice. I know all of these choices are not the best, and to be honest besides the nuggets I have only been able to consume a few bites. The reason for these bad choices, is because I am sick of tuna, chicken salad, chicken tenders (peeled fried skin off) and deli meat (haven't really had much, but can't stomach eating it w/o bread), yogurt (anything sweet) and the other foods a lot of us eat after having this surgery. It also does not help matters, that I am away at college and I am always on the go. With that said, I need help. Does anyone have any food suggestions that are quick and easy to make and taste good? Are there any breads that are low carb and tolerable to eat at 6 weeks post op? I really don't want to mess up my weight loss by regaining weight and at one point I was starting to feel as if this surgery was a waste of time, but I know now that is so far from the truth. Sorry to be so long winded and any suggestions anyone has would be most helpful.

    Thanks

    Lady E.

  10. Hello everyone,

Well my surgery is set for tomorrow morning. I am super duper nervous, but super excited as well (sooo many thoughts and emotions happening at once). I guess I can't believe this is finally happening. Please keep me in your prayers that surgery is a success as well as post-op, and prayfully I will be updating everyone soon regarding my surgery, weight loss and much much more :tongue_smilie:

  11. Go to the food section of this forum and find the post I started on places to get samples. It's better to get samples and try a few things rather than buy a big tub of anything you might not like.

You'll be able to sip and sip and the first few weeks you have to keep at it sipping all the time. After awhile, you can take bigger drinks. It gets easier.

    Hi Oregondaisy,

Thanks for replying. I will check your post out. I'm happy to read that it gets easier with time and that I will be able to take bigger drinks. Thanks again :-)

  12. I am having my surgery on Aug. 11th and my family has not been the most supportive as well. My mom and aunt especially, they feel that I can lose the weight naturally, but as I have explained to them that it is easier said then done. I have been trying diet after diet for years, only to lose weight and gain it back again. I can understand there concern, but I have to do what is best for me, and what is best for me is to be healthy, just as it is for you.

Best of luck to you :-)

  13. Hello Everyone,

I am fairly new to the forum and I must say I have really learned a lot thus far from reading various posts :). My surgery date is set for August 11th and I am super nervous and happy at the same time. With that said, I had a couple of questions regarding Protein shakes and staying hydrated after surgery. My questions are as followed:

    1. What brand Protein Shakes should I buy?

    2. Did anyone have a hard time taking sips of Water after surgery? I am having a hard time grasping the fact that I can only take a sip of Water at a time (I am sooo use to just taking big gulps...lol).

    3. Did anyone experience being thirsty a lot due to only being allowed to sip 2 tablespoons of liquid at a time? Does this eventually change over time and you are allowed to consume more liquid?

    4. Has anyone been able to meet the Protein grams per day that is recommended? My surgeon recommends 90 grams per day and if I am limited on how much I can drink at a time, I am having a hard time grasping how I will be able to do this.

Sorry for all the questions, I am super nervous and afraid that I may not be able to follow thru with everything that is required of me after surgery; the information that is given is pretty overwhelming.

Thanks in advance for your responses.
