    Now what..... (very long sorry)

Ah, what a trip you've had! Good luck and ask away with the questions... we all learn from each other!
  2. Yay! Band, so glad all went well! Rest up (in the hospital? Yeah, right!) and get home soon!

    Dvd?

    nope, i'd have loved it!
  4. I was lucky enough to have my Gall Bladder out at the same time so I just left the VSG part out of it until I was ready. Once a good bit of people were catching on that I was losing weight, I was less intimidated by saying what was done to my innards. Good luck!

    Regrets??

I think my one regret is that I wish I'd explored it just a bit longer to practice some of the post-op eating changes. For example, not drinking while eating and taking longer to eat. Other than that, I am happy with my choice and I feel better each and every day. Good luck!

Helping my children cope with comments

Angie, I'm so sorry. It doesn't matter the age we are or the age of the commenter it still stinks. A boy told #1 last year that he had a fat mom and I handled it well at the time but it still made me feel bad for him... to be honest I felt bad for me, too! Mostly I was concerned with how it made him feel and asked if he was ok, what he thought, etc. Being overweight my entire life, I hadn't approached the topic as often as I should have without making it about me. When it was around surgery time, I explained in a fairly simple way what the surgery was for and how it would change me and what we did around the house. They were mostly upset about the lack of fast food! I think the others, and especially KZol, are right. We try to recognize the differences in people and accept it on face value. We often see amputees at the hospital and especially when we were going to Walter Reed Army Med. Center. The kids were always astounded at the "peg legs, hookie arms" you name it... so of course they would comment on it, usually shrieking "I see Captain Hook!" One time I was able to say, he's a captain just not Captain Hook. Parenting is difficult. It's moments like this when we get to know what our kids stand for and how things make them feel. I hope you are feeling better about all of it, and had a fun time at the pool, too!

    VSG Planned - Some Questions

I'd say I was good to go around day 4. I went on to weight bearing activities I'd say around week 2. I think you'll be fine to do it just before wifey goes away! Good luck!

what should I ask the surgeon!?

How big will your sleeve be? Clear instructions and guidelines on re-introducing foods and liquids post-op. Do you need to be on a PPI? And many others, but those are the ones I should have asked!
  14. I am so sorry you have to wait so long to have surgery at Madigan. My husband is active duty as well and I had my surgery in March at Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Augusta, GA. It was a great experience and I've had relatively good luck with things since. I would not have gone abroad for surgery, first I don't have a passport:scared0:, but also I didn't have much time to plan this. I was referred in a haphazard sort of way. I do think you should call your PCM and ask about the follow up care at a MTF. Since you were in process for surgery at Madigan, I'm sure you could do all the follow up after the surgery abroad.. don't you think? Anyway, it would be good to know for sure so you don't have any surprises. Good luck!

    New Surgery Date set

Good grief they're really making you work for this! The date is fast approaching and I hope everything goes smoothly. Good decision on the pouch size. I, too, have heard folks who've had larger sizes mention it was too big. Good luck!
