    protein shakes

I started my 2 week pre-op diet last Wednesday. I am using Gold Standard 100% Whey Protein Isolate in chocolate from the Vitamin Shoppe. It was 24g protein, 1g fat, and 3g carbohydrates per serving. It only costs $24 for a 2lb container. I think it tastes fine. In the mornings, I like to mix it with fatfree milk and a teaspoon of instant decaf coffee to get a cafe mocha flavored shake. There are so many out there it was a little overwhelming. Luckily, the guy working at the Vitamin Shoppe was very helpful and saved me about $20 by steering me away from the really expensive labels.
  2. I'm so glad you posted this. I'm on day 5 of my pre-op and i'm starving too. Everything I make for my husband and kids smells so good. I'm so used to picking while I prepare their meals, it's been a huge adjustment. I am trying to keep my focus on the end goal. Good luck!!!
  3. Me too! My sleeve is scheduled for Jan 26th in DC. Good luck!

    January 2011 Sleevers

Hi! I am scheduled for Jan 26th in DC. Excited but nervous too. Started my all liquid diet today. It's been a challenging day but I made it through.
  5. Hi! I started my pre-op liquid diet today and have surgery scheduled for Jan 26. I am only allowed protein shakes, 1/2 cup oatmeal (once a day), sugar free pudding, sugar free jello, fat-free yogurt, and 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce (once a day). It's been a hard adjustment...I never really realized how much I snacked throughout the day.

    Aetna 3 Months Question

When I went the first seminar in September 2010, the doctor informed us that Aetna had a 3 month option. I was determined that I would get all my ducks in a row so that I could have the sleeve done as soon as possibe. I met all the requirements by Dec 9th (3 monthly nutrionist visits, exercise physiologist, pysch eval, web tutorial, and support group meetings). When I asked the staff if they could submit my paperwork for Aetna approval, they initial refused. They indicated that the majority of patients before me who had submitted were denied and had to complete 6 months. I was devasted! When I got home, I immediately called Aetna to inquire as to why, having met all the requirements as defined in their policy, I would possibly be denied. They told me I should go ahead and submit for approval and it should be accepted. When I called the doctor's office back, they seemed really reluctant to submit but I insisted. GUESS WHAT? On December 28, Aetna approved my surgery without question. Hoorah! Needless to say, they were very surprised at the doctor's office. I've been on the fast track ever since to be prepared surgery on Jan 26th. Today, I started my pre-op diet. The morale of my long drawn out response...don't rely on the doctor's office to fill in ALL the blanks. Make sure you call Aetna to clarify what is required.

    northern virginia sleevers?!?!?

Hi. I'm here in Fredericksburg, VA. I started my journey to a VSG in September 2010 at Washington Hospital in DC. My surgeon is Dr. Timothy Shope. I found Dr. Shope through my insurance company, he was the only bariatric surgeon in the area they would cover. The Bariatric Surgery Center at the hospital is great. There were several requirements to meet (nutrionist visits (3-6), psych eval, excercise physiologist meeting, support group attendance, and a web tutorial). The staff is truly invested in your progress. The only down side for me is the commute to DC for doctor's visits but it's worth it to have a good doctor. I am super excited and a little nervous about my surgery which is scheduled for Jan 26, 2011.
