Although I didn't make the last goal, I am determined to step up the exercise and make the Labor Day goal. I started tracking my food intake again so I hope it helps me keep a closer eye on my calories, carbs, and Proteins. Hi!
Just thought I would start off an introductory thread. I'm from Fredericksburg and would love to touch base with local sleevers. I was sleeved in DC in January 2011. I am going to try to attend a support group meeting at Washington Hospital Center on July 9th.

I was on vacation last week. Luckily, I still managed to lose 4 lbs over those two weeks. I will need to step it up a notch in order to make goal but with TOM this week it may be a challenge.

24 & 22 pants/jeans available
Hi!. I have barely worn size 24 and 22 black dress pants and dark blue jeans (boot cut). These pants are short/petite. If you're interested let me know. If you can pay for shipping that would be great.

Anyone have size 16 suits or suit jackets/blazers?
I fit into a size 16 jacket and almost into a 16 pants. I cleaned out my closet this week and have only one work jacket that fits (16 from 5 years ago) and one pair of black pants (brand new 18). I desperately need new work clothes (petite/short/average). Please let me know if you have anything. I can pay for shipping. Thanks.

I was feeling down so I needed to do this...
Wow...truly amazing! What an accomplishment! I was getting ready to donate my size 24 black pants but now I think I'll save them so that one day I can take a similar picture. You are such an inspiration!!

Foam-tastic
This weekend, I decide to dye my hair a little darker as part of my transformation to a new me. I had seen the ads on TV about the new Nice n' Easy Foaming Hair Dye. I've been dying my hair the traditional way for almost 15 years so I figured "what the heck" I'll try something different. Here is my experience with this new product: -I liked the application of the foam, it was similar to mousse and alot less time consuming then applying traditional hair dye -Although it was easy to apply, it still was a little messy ( I have shoulder length hair). I managed to get it all over the back of my gown and my neck which I had to vigoursly rub with alchol to remove the dye stains after I finished the application. I clipped my hair up to keep it from resting on my neck and causing further staining. -After the specified time, I washed it out in the shower until the Water ran clear. However, when I got out of the shower the dye was still on my scalp so I had to rub it off in several places with a wet towel. Overall, I think it did an okay job. If I use it again, I will probably scrub my scalp really well in the shower to remove any residue and try to be more cautious about the application of the foam near areas that may contact my skin. Have you tried this new foaming dye? Have a differnt experience? Please share!

Books for Your Mental Health
I just posted these books in a separate thread but thought others may also benefit from them as well. I have been seeing a therapist for my bipolar disorder over the past few years and she has been instrumental in helping me cope with the changes in my mind and body since the sleeve. There are two books she suggested to me that I will recommend to other fellow sleevers who struggle with eating and mental health: Mindless Eating: Why We Eat More Than We Think by Brian Wansink Changing Our food, Changing Ourselves: Women, Food, Relationships, & Culture by Karen Burke These have been very insightful and have helped me gain a better understanding of why we eat. If anyone wishes to talk about mental health issues in a more private setting, please feel free to PM me.

Mental Health
I believe that a counselor/therapist would be beneficial. The difference is that they cannot prescribe medications. I think what you are describing is typical for most and a therapist can help you develop strategies for dealing with the challenges you face. I have been seeing a therapist for a few years and she has been instrumental in helping me cope with the changes in my mind and body since the sleeve. There are two books she suggested to me that I will recommend: Mindless Eating: Why We Eat More Than We Think by Brian Wansink Changing Our food, Changing Ourselves: Women, Food, Relationships, & Culture by Karen Burke These have been very insightful. Since your insurance company doesn't cover the cost of a mental health professional maybe pick up these books and give them a read. At least, it will put you on the right path. Good luck! BTW ... with my therapist's help I eventually determined that I eat when I am not hungry out of boredom. I am still working on trying to fill up my day with activities that keep my mind focused on things other than food. You are NOT alone in this struggle. Keep your chin up!

Mattress selection for heavy people
My husband and I invested in a Tempur-Pedic a few years ago. We love it! He had back pain for years but as soon as he stared sleeping on the new Tempur-Pedic it went away. It is firm and contours to your body. It is very expensive but well worth the money. If you buy directly from Tempur-Pedic they give you a 90-day free trial to make sure your satisfied. http://www.tempurpedic.com

getting really frustrated.
Brielle - I know exactly how you feel. I am almost 3 weeks postop and I haven't lost any weight in the last two week. It is very frustrating. I am trying hard not to get on the scale everyday but it is really hard because I think that the weight will just melt away. Thankfully, as several people responded, this is something I believe everyone goes through. At least we can take comfort in the fact that we are not alone.

Ive only lost 10 pounds in 3weeks!
Thank you posting this. I am having the same struggle. The scale hasn't moved in a week and I am 2 weeks post-op. I get more than enough fluids and protein. My calories are between 600-700. I am going for my follow-up appointment this afternoon. I am hoping for some encouraging words from my doctor.

2 weeks post op today
I am on birth control pills. After surgery, I started my period the same day in the hospital. It wasn't due for 2 more weeks. On top of all the nausea and pain, I had to deal with a heavy period which caused severe headaches during my hospital stay. The doc said the surgery had shocked my body into having a period and the blood thinners didn't help either. Needless to say, I tossed out my birth control pills and am waiting for the next cycle to come around before I start taking them again. I am NOT looking forward to the next period because all indications say it will be bad.

Hospital stay....Is one night stay enough??
I 'm glad I stayed two nights in the hospital. The day of and after surgery was miserable for me. I spent the majority of the day and night either dry heaving into a bucket or sleeping with my head IN the bucket. My doctor decided not to discharge me because I was having such a hard time holding down even the smallest sip of liquid. I was given anti-nausea meds which helped me relax a little but I still found myself reaching for my trusty bucket frequently. The second night I was able to sleep most of the night and by morning I had recovered enough to begin holding down some liquid with the help of the anti-nausea meds.As far as pain, I had some in the hospital and the doc sent me home with Percocet but I haven't taken any pain meds since I have been home. The only pain I have is tenderness at the incision sites. I believe it depends on the person ... having read many posts on this website (as I'm sure you have) everyone has a different experience.
