  1. i generally eat about 1 cup at each meal, some days a little more, some days less. i am still working on not drinking with my meals. that is one of the hardest things to stop doing, it is a habit and i am doing better. i do measure out my food and i try to make wise choices. scared to go out to eat again after my vomiting episode 2 weeks ago when i went out to eat with family.
  2. I think it was silly for them to reschedule the surgery. I mean really, who has not cheated during the pre-op diet. If they say they did not, they are lying. LOL Most of us have "cheated" during our diets, we are human. I went to a cookout 4 days before mine and let me tell you, i pigged out. i knew that would be my last time for all that yummy, bad for me food, and i went all out and drank some beers too. LOL next time, don't tell them when you cheat on your diet.

    Lap Band? What Lap Band?

i didn't get any feeling of restriction until my 3rd fill. you are doing fine and they say 1 to 2 lbs per week so your skin has time to catch up with the elasticity because of the fat lost. just watch what you eat, don't over indulge, stop when you are satisfied, not full as in an hour you will be super full. have a good time, you are on vacation. i was in Vegas for a week and ate really good, i mean rich, good food and did not gain a lb, i even drank there. just be diligent and have a good time.

    I'm a newbie :)

I was not hungry at all for like 5 days after i had my surgery. Mine was done easter weekend and my whole family came over the day after my surgery and they had bbq and i didn't even care. I had no appetite. i even cooked a huge breakfast 2 days later for everyone and it did not bother me a bit to not be able to eat any of it. just had my broth and some popcisles. LOL! My only real issue was the freaking GAS!!! oh that is miserable. the belching like a drunken sailor, the pain in the shoulders. ugh! that is not fun! i used a heating pad on my shoulder, took my pain meds on time, used my incentive spirometer for the lungs, and chewed up mylanta gas tabs like crazy. oh and walked around alot to get that gas moving. i didn't really crave any food until one week after surgery when i could have pureed foods. hope everything goes smoothly for you! good luck on your journey to your new life

    Stuck?? Need advice.

drink warm liquids, tea, broth to help ease the tightness. you most likely are stuck, if it does not get better, i would call the nurse to ask what else you can do. i know that right before my monthly, i can feel my band tighten and i drink warm liquids for 2 days and that eases the swelling and i am fine. don't get the bloat in my stomach like i used to. good luck. hope it gets better soon.

    Self Fills

I know here in Kansas City, there are lapband centers and they do fills. I don't know how much they charge, but I am sure there is a center near you somewhere.

    Lap Band - your thoughts

As the previous post says, the lapband is a tool. If yo don't do the work, diet and exercise, it won't work. It is like one leg of a three legged stool. Without the other two legs, diet an exercise yo put into it, it will just fail. A lot of people think "this going to fix me". You have to eat right and exercise.

    Happy!!!!

I am 36 and it took me over a year of contemplating getting the ban before I finally did it. I was nervous and scared to have surgery, but I also wanted to be there for a long life to watch my kids grow up. My dad has had a stroke and 2 heart attacks, high blood pressure and diabetes, and I knew if I didn't do something, I would be right there too someday. I don't regret it at all. best decision I ever made, but it was my decision, no one else's. You are the only one who can decide. Write out a list of the pros and cons of getting banded or staying overweight and unhealthy. Wishing you the best luck!

    HELP! Not Losing Weight. Frustrated.

muscle also weighs alot more than fat, so if you are losing inches, then you should be doing alright. i think we too easily get hung up on the numbers on the scale instead of looking at our clothes. my nurse practioner told me there is almost a 2 month lag time of inches lost to lbs lost. you lose the inches alot faster than the lbs, it kind of sucks in a way cause we become obsessed with the scale.

    Surgeon Slow to Fill?

mine does not do more than 2cc a fill. his nurse practioner is really careful about how much she puts in. i already had 3cc after surgery, so only 1.5 cc went in 5 weeks later, then another 1.5cc, then 1cc at 3rd fill, and yesterday with my 4th fill 0.5cc. i am losing the 1 to 2lbs per week like they want, they call it the sweet spot, green zone. some doctors are more cautious than others, especially if they have pt's who think they are fine, and then the next day, have to have fluid removed.
  17. I had a lot of Popsicles and juice and broth the first week. Used a heating pad for the shoulder pain, took my pain Meds, used mylanta chewables for the gas, and don't drink from a straw, makes the gas worse, learned that the hard way. it will get better though. just be patient. good luck to you and walk around.

    Advice plz!

I think of the lapband as my tool, one leg of a 3 legged stool. the othe to are diet and exercise, up to me. without the other 2, it will not work. It is not a magic fix, you have to do the work too. I can eat almost nothing, if I am wise about it. I do not eat any white bread as I don't want it to get stuck, but do eat whole wheat breads with no issues. I can eat tortillas with no problems, rice, corn, and even popcorn. If you want to do this, you have to do the work too. I exercise 5 days a week, but I am addicted to it now. lol!
  19. That is fantastic! Congratulations on all your hard work!

    Sleep Apnea & Lapband

70% oxygen sats are not good at all. I am a respiratory therapist and you do need to at least try the machine and bring it with you to the surgery as some patients have a lot of trouble waking up post op after estivation, as they pull the tube before you are full awake. So they want the machine close just in case it needs to be put on to keep your airways open. This is a cover everyone's butts thing, and to protect you also.
  21. As a respiratory therapist and having experience with post op patients still on a vent, I think you should at least tell the doctor you have sleep apnea, even if it is mild. Do you have issues sleeping at night? Have you had any issues with surgery before? I am not trying to scare you or anything, but some patients who regularly use their cpap machine for their sleep apnea have issues trying to wake up from surgery. You most likely will not have that problem, but I feel your surgeon needs to know.
  22. That is awesome! Congrats! Feels great doesn't it
  23. I know for me, some days I am hungrier than others and can feel I am tight. especially during my monthly cycle. on those days I usually have more protein shakes cause I know I won't eat much solid food.

    pain

yep, we all do it at one time or another. had mine 1 1/2 weeks ago and it was awful. water coming out of my nose as i am trying to get it out. i can tell you this, i won't make that mistake again, and i bet you won't either you don't want the band to slip, so be very careful of what you are eating and chew, chew, chew. and also at your next visit, tell your doctor of your experience. i know it was not fun, but it is a lesson learned, the hard way.
