  1. I have the same pain and a tingling sensation in my left shoulder. After the food passes it lingers anywhere from 15-45 minutes. My doctor told me that it was nothing to worry about.

I noticed everytime I get food stuck I have left shoulder pain. Even after the food passes the pain in my shoulder lingers..does this happen to anyone else? I'm kinda worried its heart related but just don't know. Thanks

  2. Hi Amjcal,

I have one cup of each morning. Most days I use the fat free Creamer and on others I use the vanilla. It has not caused me any problems.

    Good luck :)

    Andrea

So I love coffee, but with creamer I can do the fat free creamer, but not the sugar free. This morning I had coffee, with Hazelnut Creamer and unflavored Protein shake blended in. It was yummy!! rolleyes.gif I am under the assumption that I will no longer be able to drink creamer, because it is empty calories. I work graveyards and a lot of nights depend on coffee to get me through the night. Does anyone use creamer in their coffee and does it cause any problems?

    Thanks

  3. Hi,

I was banded on 03/31/11 by True Results in Richardson and my doctor was Richard Benevides. I was a cash patient and I had a hatial hernia repaired during the procedure. That portion was paid for by my insurance and I paid the difference. The staff at the main office, surgery center,dr's office and aftercare have all been extremely nice. I will say however ,that it does seem a little rushed sometimes due to the volume of patients. Overall I have been pleased with my decision to use them. I go for my 2nd fill this week.

Good luck and best wishes on your new life!!!!

    Andrea

  4. Hi,

I was also self pay because my insurance would not cover it. I used my FSA to cover the expenses. Good luck :)

I know this is an old thread, but I couldn't find the answer to this question anywhere else on the threads... My insurance does not cover bariatric surgery (cheap employer!). I want to self-pay, but here's my question: will the lap band surgery costs be considered eligible FSA expenses? Who determines that? My employer? My insurance company? Or the IRS?

Thanks in advance for any advise you can provide me with...

P.S. I have already sent an email to my insurance company about this--awaiting a response.

  5. Hi Stef

I was also banded on 03/31. I have lost 22 lbs but I have noticied that it fluctuates. I have gained a few pounds back but I believe it is due to my cycle. I was afraid to start on regular foods because I didn't want the weight loss to stop. I have to remind myself that although I am back on soilds I am not eating half as much as I used to. I have no restriction in my band. I just stop eating I am never full just ok.

Hey everyone!....My surgery was done on 3/31/2011 and I have lost 20 lbs. since then, I'm going to weigh myself tomorrow to see how much i've lost but my weight loss slowed now that I have soft foods. I feel afraid that I won't lose anymore when I go back to solid foods, is there any advice anyone can give me on how to keep shedding inches and pounds post surgery?

  6. Although I did not ask the question I thank you for answering. I am 17 days post op and I have been wondering about restriction. Right now when I eat something I cut myself off it is not the band. I assume when I get my first fill it will be different. The only time I feel over full is when I drink my Protein drink which is 11oz. .

Restricted - I can eat 1/2-1 cup of food (depending on the food) and not be hungry for 4-6 hours.

Over eaten - feels like food is caught in my throat and I need to vomit to bring it up. Or feel like I need to. When I do bring something up, instant relief.

Stuck - feels like a hard dull pain in my chest, a similar feeling to how it feels when you actually get something stuck in your throat, that all encompassing pain. Once it clears there is immediate relief.

  7. I am sorry to hear that you still do not feel well. I took my pain meds for the first 4 days and went back to work on day 5. At that point I was still having pains in my incision area as well as my left shoulder. I don't know what happened overnight but I felt so much better on day 6. It is a progressive process. I am now on day 17 and I have only have minor discomforts. It will get better. I wish you well.

  8. Hi Jackie,

My surgeon did not discuss a goal weight either. We did go over the statistics that most lap band patients lose 60% of their excess weight. My initial goal is also 100lbs. At that point I will re-evaluate myself and set some new guidelines. I do know that for me it is more about how I feel and look than what the scale says. The scale has never matched my clothes size.

    Andrea

I am reading some of the recent posts where some of you have mentioned the "goal weight" set by the surgeon.

My surgeon never mentioned a goal weight for me....but did talk about the "average" weight loss post lapband. Does the surgeon usually have specific goals for patients? Also, I won't see my surgeon again as all care now is managed by the bariatric center (midlevels, nurses, dieticians, social workers). I don't want to ask my PCP....as I am not sure she will have a realistic goal.

I don't have a goal for myself other than having a weight that starts with the number 1...............when I get there, then I will see how i feel, how I look and where I want to end up. I am tall (5'9") and in order to get into a normal BMI I would need to be around 167 lbs. My goal on my ticker in my signature is 100 lb loss which will put me at 188 lbs. I see that goal as very attainable right now....and see no issue in reaching that before my one year bandiversary in October.

I think I will shoot for my 100 lb loss as a goal.....and when I get there, see how I feel.:P

    Jackie

  9. Jen,

I am concerned about that too. I really have had no issues other than gas pains and I don't want to start having them now. I just want to eat the right things and be suucessful!

    Andrea

I was worried too, but more worried about getting stuck or not tolerating certain foods. I find my weight loss has definitely slowed down a bit, but slow and steady wins the race, right?

  10. This may sound silly but I am worried about going back on regular foods. I am 15 days post op. I have been on the pre-op then post-op diets since 03/21. I have done fairly well. I have lost 20 pounds. I am nervous that once I start eating regular foods the weight loss will stop. Has anyone else had similar thoughts?

  11. First of all congratulations on getting banded!!!!!

You may not want to hear this but you are already doing the best thing you can do and that is walk. I also used the gax x strips and my lortab was liquid. As the days progress it will get better. I am 14 days post op and I have not used either of them in over a week. Again ,it will get better :) .

    Good luck

    Andrea

  12. In the beginning I also hurt anytime that I burped or took a deep breath. I had those pains through my 6th day. I am now 12 days post op and pain free YEAH!!!!!

I keep feeling a slight tightness in my esophagas so I am not ready to try noodles yet even though I am starving. I swear my stomach rumbled for a whole min yesterday. It also hurts to burp. I don't think i am getting the Protein I need though. I have been trying to drink my Atkins drinks and milk with Protein powder as much as I can.
