  1. I was reading a reply you wrote about "it's not about restriction". I got my surgery yesterday 3/2/11, and he said he left about 2cc in the band and won't fill for 6 weeks. I am actually moving out of state in 4 weeks, so I have to find a different person for fills. Just wanted you to know I appreciated your info and hope to keep in touch. How is your journey??

    Just Banded

My surgeon doesn't do protein shakes. He says we have to learn how to eat the protein with foods and sense the full feeling that solids will give, so I am post op day 1 as of today and will have 2 weeks of a pureed diet stressing protein. I am gassy- but not too uncomfortable. No need for any gas-x and vitamins will start when off pureed foods. I have to crush or use liquid meds otherwise (birth control gets crushed, nexium sprinkled on food) and it makes a great difference. I am getting to a full feeling by taking tiny bites off a baskin robin sample size spoon and 1 bite per two minutes. No drinks 30 mins prior to food, during eating or 30 mins after. Keeps me from flushing food out of pouch and losing full sensation. I have not been nauseated once. NOT ONCE. Most of my discomfort is where my port is... but I am taking liquid oxy for that. Just got home tonight and will keep walking. Good luck to you... just thought I'd share how my post-op recommendations are working for me. =)
  3. you are same age as me? Cool. Are you pre-op or post op? I had my band yesterday!

  4. Offically home with the BAND! NO NAUSEA at all. Tolerating fluids. Little bits of food. GOOD STUFF!

  5. Ok- so sleep should be a chore tonight. Surgery tomorrow- gotta be there at 5:30 am. WISH ME LUCK... I know I can do this. =)

  6. Your story is amazing. My surgery is tomorrow morning, and here I am trying to calm my nerves. Thanks for posting... what have you found has helped you the most in your success? I weigh about what you did pre-op and would love to get to 160. The doc's said that with avg weight loss I should expect 190- but I really hope for more, and want to commit to this. Plus I am getting married in July...

  7. Yep- I am having surgery tomorrow 3/2/11, by Dr. Wallace at Froedtert (Teaching Hospital) because as an employee at the Medical College of Wisconsin, it was covered at 100% there. Froedtert is in Milwaukee, WI... And pre-op process has gone really well. Good Luck!
  8. Posted on your topic- how did surgery go? Mine is tomorrow 3/2/11! Also, seeing your pic... I am curious what your pre-weight is. You look fantastic- wondering how long it will be till I look THAT good =)

  9. OMG MY SURG IT TOMORROW TOO!!!! I got the call saying I have to be there at 5:30 am for 8:30 am surg. I am doing EVERYTHING i can to keep my mind off this... trying not to let that include eating naughty items. You are not alone, PS... I did well and lost 9 lbs prior to surgery, but I am sure when they weigh me tomorrow, half will be back. All my friends and family wanted to take my new fiance and I out for dinner and drinks- and I am moving soon- so I didn't want to lose these opportunities to share special moments with family and friends. They didn't have me on any kind of liquid diet- it was more a high Protein "eat healthy" diet. I did fair to poor this weekend and early week... but I, like you, am just trying not to beat myself up about it. This is why I failed diets in the past- a little success and I feel like I can just go ahead and loosen up. This is where the band will keep me from gorging at meals like I was used to. Good luck with your surgery tomorrow. While they put me under- I'll wish you luck... so the same for me, and keep in touch =)

    Lap Band TOMORROW!!!!!!

ok- so i just got the phone call to confirm my surgery time for tomorrow morning... ANXIETY! But also excitement. I am nervous... anyone have comments as to discomfort -or tips to avoid nausea after surg? And SUPPORT is always appreciated. My heaviest was 264 lbs. Got to about 258 pre-op... so HERE WE GO! Also- heard that oral contraceptives aren't as effective related to weightloss... Anyone just using pills or is it standard to need a barrier method as well?? And is it silly to ask when I can become, ahem, active again???

    Getting band on April 4th

Hi there!!! If it makes you fell any better- I feel the same nerves you probably do, but my surgery is TOMORROW! Hopefully this forum can be a good resource, but after being heavy my whole life- and feeling that people mis-treat you for it, I KNOW that I am doing what will help me in soooo many ways. I have a wonderful support system. Haven't told EVERYONE, but the people I know won't judge and who I know would understand. The rest can come with time as I gain comfort in my new self. Good luck. Do it if it feels right for you.

Help! Fill Doctor in Minnesota (or near Chicago or Milwaukee)

I think Dr. Wallace and there is another at Froedtert in Milwaukee- get established and maybe they could do you. I am having my surgery with them tomorrow- but will be moving after and need to find someone in El Paso, TX! =)
