Low carb/no carb alternative to fav foods?

I started my family on Smart Taste noodles - available at grocery stores and Wal-Mart. Post op I have not wanted noodles at all. I still make them for my family though. I also bought the Shirataki noodles (from Whole Foods) but have yet to use them. Like you, I was a big carb addict. I could eat Pasta day in / day out. Now, my taste have changed a bit. I believe this is because of the low carb pre op diet. You have to get in the mode of eliminating those bad carbs early. pizza crust = cauliflower / low carb tortilla / portabella caps (yummm) / low carb flour (to make your own crust) Spaghetti = Shirataki / low carb noodles / spaghetti squash (this is really neat to use) Bread = lettuce wraps / low carb tortilla / cheese or meat wrap http://www.low-carb.com/lowcarbbakery.html check out this site for Ready-to-eat products (brownies, bagels, bread and more) Enjoy!
  6. Hey there!! I am two months post op and have hypothyroidism. For two years I was not able to lose more than 10 lbs - and that was super strict dieting. My thyroid has played hell on my body and my metabolism. Two months out I am losing (see ticker below). I am still on meds - always will be, but I am losing. My loss seems slower than some people but I chalk it up to being 40 BMI (at surgery) and my thyroid issues. It is totally possible to lose and maintain with the Sleeve, even if you have a jacked up thyroid. Good luck on your journey!! Florida girls rock - just saying!! (From Daytona LOL) :cheer2:

Rant - old habits die hard

The lack of control really gets me. My twitchy fingers would have scooped up that icing and not thought twice - until I felt bad later that night. I have an after thought issue: Eater's remorse and it is real. I get Eater's Remorse every time I mess up, yet I continue to mess up. Now is the time to look in the mirror and confront my demons. Sadly, being honest with myself is pretty damn hard. Hey Heather, get a clue!!! You need to stop acting irresponsible and woman up. Two months out and I don't want to be a 15k porker. Ok granted I paid 2k but it is all the same - you paid for this elective surgery and didn't use it to your advantage. I don't want to be a statistic, I want to be a success story. So every day I battle with trying to correct the bad habits I built up over the years. I don't expect to be perfect; eating only veg for the rest of my life. Bloody hell I barely remember to eat a single veg per day. So everyday is a struggle but I refuse to fail my Sleeve. I just have to keep reminding myself to work for my Sleeve - not vice versa. Thanks for listening

Risks of Side Effects from VSG

Statistics are a funny thing - they can be manipulated. See most Dr's report low to no complication rates. Here is the kicker - that includes numbers for people that have complications DURING surgery. The rates for people that die post op are not included in the surgeons numbers. There are a few documentaries on Netflix about the medical system using statistics in their favor. I 110% agree that everyone needs to weigh the options (obesity vs surgery). And we all have to remember, no matter how simple the surgery, there are risks associated. I think I cried on and off for a week pre op wondering if I was doing the right thing. You need to do a lot of soul searching and be prepared for anything.

    I'm not really new

Sorry to hear about this. Not sure how I missed this post!!! I hope the hernia surgery goes well.
  10. Eating regularly - finally. Just have to learn to eat right and in moderation. My Sleeve really doesn't stop me from eating much - he isn't picky at all anymore LOL Well that just means I have to work harder!! #221 oh yeah!

This whole not drinking while eating...

I am going with Rootman here too! I drink while I eat and it is fine. You still feel full. Granted, I can't drink a whole glass of anything at one time so maybe that has something to do with it being ok for me. The NUT did not harp on this for VSG peeps, but they stressed it for the Lap Band people. (We were in the next room and heard all the Band restrictions... wow!) Anyway, I think liquid does push your food through the tummy faster, but not that fast that you can't feel full. To each their own.

    salads??

I am a month and 1/2 out and cannot imagine eating a salad yet. I just don't think it would sit well. I can't even tolerate dense foods yet. BUT everyone is different and every NUT has a different plan. Are you getting your shakes in? The shakes have enough Vitamins / nutrients in them that you could eat only shakes for 2 months and still be healthy (so says my Dr). Maybe your body needs more calories - Soup? Protein shots? etc.
  13. Doubled over in pain... can't eat. Back on clear liquids for 48 hours. SIGH

  14. Still on a stall. Going to up my water and protein and see if I can break this thing!!

  15. 6 weeks post op! Stall, stall, stall - the ultimate 4 letter bad word! This is getting crazy. I stall every other week now. Really questioning if this will work for the long run. Hmmmm

Tiffykins, nope I haven't measured. I am not exercising yet so I didn't think I could be gaining muscle - in fact, I know I'm not LOL. Might have to go buy a measuring tape.... :cheer2:

    Rant - clothing size (pics)

My fingers have slimmed down some - not much. I really notice my face has slimmed down a lot! Which is a good thing. No change in the upper arms - aka bat wings. Boobies have shrunk a lil = uber bad thing LOL Tummy - definitely looks flatter but has developed an ugly FUPA roll.. TMI I know.. Butt - all but gone LMAO Thighs - still thick as all get out!! Overall - I don't where the 30 lbs was lost at LOL Just staying positive! That's all we can do! Hugs!!
  19. YAY congrats!!! Good to hear you are doing well!!

    "Fried" Chicken Thighs

Oh this is a great idea - you could use spicy rinds or BBQ rinds!! Very good recipe!

Thanks for the replies! I definitely need new undies - only because my bum is shrinking. I will give it some time and see what happens. I was just so amazed to lose so much and not be able to fit my 16's yet. In due time, I suppose. That, and I need to shake this miracle overnight attitude. LOL I am hoping to wake up skinny one day!! BAWHAHAHAH :cheers2:

How to eat at McDonald's after the sleeve....

I am not eating regular food yet BUT we have been out to eat a few times since my surgery. Chik FilA - my fav!! I order the chicken Soup - yes even the dead heat of summer!! I eat around the noodles or pluck them out. I eat the broth and the carrots (chuck the celery). It is sooooo good! And I get unsweet tea (add splenda). Burger King - I haven't anything from here but I noticed that they had a veggie burger. That may be an option (no bun). McDonalds - Umm I am NOT going to do fried foods.. personal choice - and I haven't eaten here since surgery BUT I like the grilled wraps and think tossing the tortilla would be smart. And just say no to the dressing they put on it! My old friend - WENDY'S - let me tell you, this place is my saving grace post op. I have had so many baked potatoes!! Oh yum! When I went to mushy foods, this was my go-to. PLUS my family could eat their high calorie foods, and I had my tater. Yummmm! It doesn't matter where we go, I find something that works with my new tiny tummy. And it is paying off!
  23. Well nothing is guaranteed. My Dr used a 38 bougie. He assured the group that the stomach will never be the original size again because the stretchy part is cut out. Now with that said, I can totally eat more than what was predicted and I am only one month post op. ALSO, if you drink while eating, you can eat way more because you are pushing the food through the stomach faster. I think this is a valid concern that a lot of pre op’s (including me) have/had. The sleeve is definitely a tool that you need to work with. Eating a hamburger meal is not going to make you gain 100 lbs but doing it every day might. Most of us are exercising and counting carbs (or calories) to ensure that our Sleeves help us and vice versa!
  24. Good luck on Monday!!! You will do great

    Vitamins

My Bariatric Advantage vitamins were making me sick so I switched to Gummy One-a-day vites. You have to chew them until they dissolve almost completely in your mouth. Dr. Oldham is not a big fan of gummy vites but I have to get vites somehow. Right now I take: 2 gummy vites 1 B-12 sublingual 1 iron1 Calcium
