  1. Heyyy May Bandsters,

Glad to hear that everyone is doing so well! I was banded on the 31st of August and as of this past tuesday (which was my 16 week mark), I am down 70 pounds. I have had 3 fills so far, the first one was 6ccs, the seconds was an addition of 1cc, and the third was an addition of .5ccs. I have an 11cc Realize Band and I thought I knew what restriction was before...but i am really feeling it now. & I find myself wanting to eat more than my band can physically take so my mind hasn't adjusted to almost being at the green zone!

I'm really happy with my weight loss and it has truly been a partnership between using the tool, which is the band, and also incorporating exercise in my daily routine. I do not think that I would be where I am at without both the exercise & the band.

Hope everyone is doing well. Congrats to use for being losers!

  2. Hey everyone,

Glad to see everyone is doing well! I was banded on May 31st, 283 before the diet, 268 the day of surgery, and 242 today for a total of 41 pounds down. I exercise 5 times a week, and just incorporated strength training into my diet at 4 weeks post op. I also got my first fill on July 6th, 6ccs in my 11cc Realize Band. Def. More restriction but not at my sweet spot yet...but I want to take the fills slow, scares of being too tight.

  3. I'm in a similar situation, just turned 23, been overweight forever...blah blah blah...but I'm the same way with dreams! If something is on my mind, I'm constantly dreaming about it. Sometimes it's not so fun and I recently had one where I woke up and had to make myself realize it wasn't true. So when you are anxious/excited/nervous etc about something it is very common to have those dreams.

I hope that you don't continue being scared about it. I've had so many surgeries in my 23 years of life (20-25 surgeries to narrow it down!) and they really aren't terrible. I used to dread them but then I realized if you just don't think about it, you'll get through it just fine. I now look forward to my talks with my mom as we wait for me to go back into the O.R. Take someone that is calm with you that you can laugh and have a good time with before surgery and you'll go in there just fine. If you have questions, ask them! The nurses are usually amazing people that will help you get through the day.

Thanks for your reply! I was banded on the 31st of May and I have to say, for my first surgery it went well. I don't even remember a thing. It felt like I took a long deep nap, and when I woke up I was so doped up I couldn't really feel anything but soreness. But I hope that your journey is going well! Right now, I am about 8 days post op and I have been cleared to go to Stage 3 of food, which is mushies, for the rest of the month until my first fill on July 6 ( would have been earlier if it wasn't for the holiday)...but either way..I'm looking forward to losing! :) Nice to see someone else my age on the same path. Keep in touch!

  4. I,was also banded yesterday. Was discharged from the hospital today and the gas pains are finally kicking in. Weirdly enough the most pain is coming from my neck area, and port area ofcourse. Passed my Swallow test this morning, which was pretty cool to watch on the xray screen.

I wish everyone a speedy and healthy recovery!

  5. Not sure how your doctor is, but for band patients they can shower immediately with antigerm body wash like Dial.

As far as gas pains I'm still waiting to experience it.(just got banded today the 31st) .but I heard that heat pads in combination with gas x and walking may do the trick. Guess we shall see!

  8. May 31st 2011 is the big day to make me little :P

Me too! @ 9:30AM! I am so ready/excited! But now Im a little nervous that my surgery will get canceled because at my final pre-op nutrition class, the coordinator mentioned that the doctors have canceled surgeries if the patient gained weight since their initial appointment. Mine was back in february & I have gained about 6-7 pounds, a lot due to this camp I coordinated last week. But I start my liquid diet today and my history appointment isnt until Tuesday so I hope I lose those 7 pounds...I would cry If i came this far to see it all get canceled.

Anyway, good luck to you! lets keep in touch!

  9. So after going through this process since January, I finally received a surgery date of May 31st at 9:30AM. I am so excited and nervous and have been thinking about everything, from what can go wrong to the main reasons why I am doing this. I am fairly young, will turn 23 this June...but I've been overweight all of my life and I now am pre-diabetic and some other issues...but my mind is made up...

Anyway, every morning since I found out about my date I've been having dreams of actually going through the surgery, and then in my dreams I wake up like I will after going through surgery...and then I actually wake up and think that I had the surgery but I realize its a dream. I think its just because I'm looking forward to the surgery but I am just scared generally because its my first time having any kind of surgery done...has anyone else experience this or is it just me?

  10. Hi everyone!

So I had my first appointment today with my program and I am very excited and anxious to get this started! My program (Sentera Norfolk) required a program fee, blood tests, mandatory pre-op tests, and support groups. I met with the surgeon and he is a really nice guy and I feel comfortable with him doing my surgery.

I went in wanting Lap-Band, after extensively researching the Pros and Cons of each procedure. He was honest about the weight loss with the band, saying that patients can cheat and that it requires hard work. Gastric Bypass is out of the question for me, a I am young (22) and when I get to the point of where I want children, I want to make sure they get all of the nutrients and Vitamins they need. Recent research has shown that women who've had gastric bypass and get pregnant are more likely to have babies who have nutritional deficiencies. Ideally, I would like the Sleeve, but I don't really fancy the idea of part of my stomach being removed forever. However, I realize there are risks with this procedure as well.

I'm really determined to be successful with this band. I know that it requires a lot on my part. I know that I will have to exercise and fight off urges to the same food that I eat now. But for some reason I just feel like this is right for me. I want to be the exception, to be successful with this, like so many other people here have been.
