  1. MsMaui, why do they want the food to move out of the stomach faster?

    Weight gain

If you haven't lost anything in 4 months, you need to look at what your intake is each day. If you are following Atkins and eating any high fat meats, you can gain weight. You need to make sure your calories in are less than what you are putting out. I weigh and measure everything I eat and keep track on myfitnesspal.com.

My mom is out of control

When I was first banded I would have Breakfast on my couch watching the morning news and keep my eye on the cable box clock. Also if I ate in the car driving into work, I would take a bite and wait for the next minute to roll over on my car's clock. Same thing for lunch at work, take a bite and wait for a minute to pass on the computer. My dr's office always said you should eat at the table but that's what worked for me. And your brother is right. If I order something other than an a la carte item, I portion off what I should be eating.

What does 'full' feel like for you?

nothing to what I was used to from before!!! I rarely feel full, and usually only after drinking a lot of water. That was one thing that was hard to get used to, prior to the lapband I would eat my dinner until I was stuffed, and then some!

Took my before pictures - what a horrible eye opener!

You will be happy to have those pics later! I didn't have many before pics of myself. The one in my profile pic is the one that my dr took right before my surgery. It took me a long time to ask for it because I knew how bad it looked too!

    exercise

Are you able to get out before your hubby leaves for work in the morning and you have to get the kids up? I am out the door at 5:20 am, run to a friends house and then we walk 3 miles. It kills me to wake up that early but my fitbit motivates me to aim for 15,000 steps a day.

    Eating in the evening...

A lot of times when I feel like eating in the evening I will have a hot cup of tea. Another thing I had a lot of when I was first starting out was a CarbMaster yogurt from Ralphs/Krogers grocery. I like them because they are only 60 calories and 8 grams of protein. I also like sugarfree puddings.

    Just not loosing anything

don't give up! One month is nothing, you need to give your body time to heal. Your band isn't even functioning to its full potential. When I was losing slow in the beginning and would get mad, had to keep reminding myself how much more I would prob weigh had I not had the surgery. Give it time.
  14. My kids didn't really even ask for an explanation regarding the surgery. My mom offered it to me 13 months before I took her up on it, never told anyone either. I told my hubby and kids at the same time, at our Christmas dinner with my mom. I said, "Grandmom is giving me the best Christmas present ever, lapband surgery!" Our commercials on the radio and tv were so saturated with the 1-800- LapBand song, my then 10 year old girl was singing it all the time.

    Hunger? How?

I totally agree with Missy above. For me, the lapband isn't about restriction. Although I wish it controlled my hunger better, I am so thankful to have this tool. Without it, I am sure I would 20 pounds heavier than I was 2 years ago when I had the surgery. When my band is filled to the point of restriction and allowing me to go 5 hours without being hungry, I have heartburn, get food stuck, and have a hard time even getting Water down. It's such a fine line of getting it right for me. I have had such minimal sizes of fills that we just can't find that happy spot for me. So I choose to deal with the hunger rather than being too tight too many times. I don't ever want to have any problems with my band that would result in it being removed. As far as eating one cup of food? Sure, I could eat more but 99% of the time I don't. It is enough to keep me satisfied long enough. One huge thing for me and the lapband is it has totally slowed my eating down. Where as before I could polish off a HUGE plate of food in under 10 minutes (no exaggeration!), I now take about 30 minutes or so for my meal which is at least 1/4 the size. I love my food too, prob even more so now that I have to take my time eating it! So coming from a huge foodie like myself, If I can lose 100 pounds you can do it too!

    Multiple Issues

3 months post op I was down 29 pounds. I lost and still lose best when staying at 1,000 calories a day.

    depressed

you say you "must" be having 1000 calories a day. Are you logging every thing that you are eating? Because if not, you may be eating more than that. To gain weight you need to be eating more than what you are putting out each day. Don't give up though. You lost it once you will do it again. At least you didn't gain it all back! Good luck.

    finikey band...

That's what happened to me a few times also when I had to have some removed. Had a few stuck episodes and the swelling wouldn't go down. Immediate relief afterwards! Hope you are feeling better soon.

How many cups of food ? Confused :(

My meals prob measure around one cup. I measure my meats and cheese in weight and all others in measuring cups. I could always eat more than that, but I don't. If you can go around 4 hours after eating 3 ounces protein and veggie/starch then you more than likely don't need a fill.
  20. You should still be in the soft food stage. Try mashed potatoes, refried beans, yogurt, cottage cheese, apple sauce, soft cooked veggies, and oatmeal to name a few.

    Foods that cause problems

baby carrots at times, snow peas even when I destring them. Other than that, not much that I really recall. I do stay away from dry meats just not to risk it. Usually if I get something stuck it is because I was eating too fast and too big of bites.
