  1. You can do this!! I'm in day 7 of pre-op with only liquid Protein Shakes, no pudding no Jello no broth.

The first few days are the hardest because of the fatigue and carb headaches but it gets easier. Muscle milk lite is a great tasting shake and the Atkins shakes aren't so bad either. These drinks definitely aren't our milk or chocolate milkshake flavors, but they could be worse! I have to say that I slept a lot in the first few days, and luckily my family and my husband was very understanding. I'm drinking: strawberry atkins, muscle milk lite, and generic brand of slimfast low carb. You can do it you can do it!

  2. agreed Dragonfy Yogi! All I can chew is gum and it's getting old lol I keep talking about someone should make a savory gum and all of my friends just gag haha

I had an upper endoscopy on Monday to see if I had any hernias or ulcers and all was free and clear. I must have been mumbling a lot because when the doctor came out to tell my husband how it went he said I was mumbling about eating something salty lol now I can have 6 ounces of chicken or fish a day if i need it.. HALLELUIA. Thus far, i've only had 6 oz of fish on the days i teach Zumba because it's such a workout.

My diet from my surgeon now consists of:

    Protein shakes

    Water (non carbonated)

6 oz of chicken or fish only if i need it and to be discontinued 3 days prior to my surgery

I have to say day 7 of pre-op surgery with the chewable food added I feel much much better about the whole thing. The carb headaches seem to be going away, but i'm also taking tylenol when i feel one coming.

8 more days to band land!

  3. alright so 4 days into the pre-op diet and it still just sucks. The no carb headaches are so bad that I usually have to go to sleep to get rid of them and I normally get salty cravings. It would be wonderful if I could chew something, and it would be more wonderful if I could chew something salty. I have no advice on how the pre-op diet could be easier, I am quite ticked off that I can only "drink" 800 calories a day when I see others that can incorporate broth and lean Protein meats :-(

  4. i'm trying to be very optimistic like...yay... i get to drink 800 calories a day.. **major fake enthusiasm** but after shopping last night I think I can trick myself. I bought some strawberry flavored Atkins shakes, vanilla flavored lite muscle milk shakes, and some chocolate whey Protein Powder that is Jillian Michaels brand. I could not find Slim Fast high Protein anywhere, but these all had high protein and low carbs. If I drink one of the adkins or muscle milks each day, then I can drink FIVE of the Jillian Michaels brand shakes and stay within my 800 calories so maybe I can psych myself out by pretending i'm consuming sooo much when I'm really not LOL we'll see, I start pre-op diet tomorrow.

  5. As someone who teaches it, I can tell you that Zumba has a lot of benefits. The main benefit is that it provides cardiovascular exercise as well as strength training so you get it all at once! The greatest thing about Zumba is that you participate at your own level. If you've got bad knees, bad back, or whatever you can modify what you're doing and it's no big deal. With any exercise program, the key is that you do it more than once a week and regularly. If you exercise once a week and think you're doing something for your body...wrong. Classes are generally 45-60 minutes and it's not a session of "killing you" because it's fun and the instructor knows how to adequately warm you up and cool you down so that you don't get hurt. Live classes are much more fun than videos and remember: Every one has a first day.

After my banding on 3/3 i plan to return to Zumba low impact and let my seasoned veterans do all the jumping for me until i can do it again myself!

  6. I teach Zumba 4 times a week currently.. and I'm really afraid that it's going to take me forever to get back to teaching my classes once i am banded. I can keep it at low impact, and reduce ab work.. but when i ask my surgeon he tells me "a few weeks". I guess I'm looking for a more difinitive answer, and maybe some personal stories if you returned to aerobics!
