    Green Zone

Two weeks ago,I was on the fence about getting another fill. I was very close to my target weight, but I could eat anything and was getting hungry. My Doctor gave me a pretty big fill - 0.6. For the next week, I was concerned I was filled too much. But it was really just an adjustment. I can really only eat about a 1/2-2/3 cup of food. It can be almost anything, just not a lot. I wake up tight but warm liquids loosen things up. My biggest challenge now is getting enough good food in me. I am making better food choices because I have less "room to work with". 60 oz of liquids is not easy to fit in. Eating good food, I am satisfied on 1100 calories a day. If I have some candy or a drink, I get up to 1500 calories. The best part, no hunger. I could skip a meal (which I don't) with no issue. I hope it lasts... I hope you also find your green zone - its great!

    Green Zone

I wonder if I will need a slight infill in time. I am not getting stuck, etc - just full. That said, I want to keep my weight. 1200-1400 calories might not be enough. Nice problem to have. I'd say I'm deep green.
  3. I know you guys are going thru a lot getting ready for banding. I wanted to share that, in my case, it was SOOOOOOOO worthwhile! More specifically, : - Lost 55 lbs in 8 months - Lowered my blood pressure to normal and got off my meds - Lowered my cholesterol to normal and got off my meds - Feel soooo much more energy I still eat normal food (just less) and drink when I feel like it. My diet habits have changed alot - not because I have to. Where as before I liked pizza, beer and Pasta, now I like lentils, Beans and Protein bars. Really - I prefer them. OK, I still iike nachos. Hang in there. No pain, no gain... In my case it was SOOOOOOOOOO worthwhile! I hope you have as much luck and good experience.

    Need advice

I need some advice. I was banded in January. I lost 44 lbs. in the first four months. Since then - 0. Sometimes I can eat very little. Some times I can eat a lot. On Friday, i could only eat a half dozen pieces of sashimi. Sometime a couple of spoons of peanut butter fills me up. Today, I was sooo hungry. I had four protein bars, two candy bars, a wedge salad and a large bowl of chili. The other night, I ate a large plate of nachos. Very inconsistent - my hunger and what I can eat. I feel like a fill might help - opinions?

    Good or bad?

I got a fill a week ago. At first it was too tight as I could not get Water down (while still in the doctor's office). My Dr. took some out (.4CC). Now a week later, I am not sure if I need some more out. The good: - liquids are no problem - I get full on a 1/4 cup of food - I do not get hungry for 3-5 hours The bad - I quickly feel some mild to moderate pain after 1/4 cup of food. I have another appointment with my Dr. this week. I am not sure if I should get another unfill. If my stomach is still healing, I may be at my sweet spot. On the other hand, I don't want pain every time I eat. I also think I need more than 1/4 cup of food to get the nutrition I need. Advice, experiences, perspectives?
  6. So how much did it take to hit your sweet spot on your 10 CC lap band?????
  7. I recently got my second fill. Since then, when I eat, I get full on relatively small quantities of food. Unfortunately, I get hungry 1-2 hours later (no liquids either). I assume that this is because I have some restriction from my fill but not enough to keep the food in my upper stomach pouch for very long. Does this make sense? If so, I need another fill!

    Should I be concerned?

Three weeks ago I got my first fill - 4 cc. Today I went for my second fill and the Dr. could extract only 3.2 cc. Is this normal or should I be concerned about a leak?

    Second fill onThursday

Ugh! I just went to the Dr. He told me my original fill was 4 cc but some had leaked out and now I only had 3.2 left. He would only add 1 cc - which I am sure is the right thing to do (Dr. Knows best). That said, I am now at 4.2 - no major fill increase from my original fill. Bummer. Three more weeks until another fill.

    Second fill onThursday

I got my first fill three weeks ago. It was 4cc in a 10cc lap band. My Dr. told me I would definitely feel restriction. I didn't and have since gained a pound. Now on Thursday I am scheduled to get my second fill. Not that my Dr. Will listen to me, but how much more fill should I seek to get? I don't want to have to get a bunch of small fills to get restriction. I know everyone is different, but what should I hope to get? Is another 2cc at one time too much? What will help my Dr. realize I need more fill?
  11. I just got my first fill about a week ago (4cc in a 10cc) band. I get real hungry. liquids help me satiate this hunger a bit. When I eat, I don't get a full feeling. I limit the quantity that I eat and usually feel more full after about 20 minutes after eating. I then get hungry 1-3 hours later. On that basis I figure I need another fill. On the other hand, I get this relatively full feeling with a much smaller quatity than I used to eat. In addition, I had one slice of thin and crispy pizza yesterday and immediately felt like I was stuffed (and stuck)",. I go back to the doctor for another fill in a week and a half. I presume I should get another fill. That said, I don't want to be one of those unlucky people who get overfilled and can't keep Water down. Advice? Perspectives?
  12. I am 4 weeks out of surgery and making my transition from mushies to solids. I eat and sort of feel like I am getting full. That said, I could eat a lot more. Quantity is not an issue. I constrain myself so I don't stretch my stomach. I could clearly keep eating. I am having 1 to 1.5 cup at a meal - is that too much? I then feel hungry a half an hour later. Still losing weight at a rate of 2-3 per week. What's up????

    Hungry or full???

I am waiting an hour+ prior to having liquids.... First fill in 12 days. Eating 80 gm+ of protein a day.
  14. In a couple of weeks, I am going to get my first fill. It will be at the radiology department where upper GI tests are done. My Doctor explained that he will fill my band (almost full) and then they will give me barium liquid to drink. They will then take some of the fill out to a level that shows a proper amount of flow and constriction. He said that by doing it this way, you can get proper restriction on the first fill. Ultimately it is likely they will leave 3.5 -5.5 cc in the band after this fill. He said that if they don't go through radiology and do the fill in the doctor's office, they can only add a small amount. You then need to keep going back until you have a proper fill. I was very happy to learn about the approach my doctor takes to fills. I am hoping that I get decent restriction quickly so I can keep the weight I have taken off and continue with my weight loss program. I am curious as to others whose Dr. has taken this approach and how it worked for you. Did you get good restriction after the first fill?

    Beer

I know I should NEVER have carbonated beverages as the CO2 bubble can stretch the stomach. Soooooo, as I enjoy a good beer, any options? For example, any non-carbonated beer? How about Guiness - I think they use low levels of Nitrogen instead of carbonation. Any other ideas?

    Where is your port??

Mine is in the center of my stomach halfway between my belly button and my sternum.
  17. Next weekend I will have reached the point in my post-op that I can eat mushies. After 4 weeks of nothing but protein drinks I am ready. Sooooo... what is a good mushie to eat?
  18. I just had my surgery yesterday so I am 3-4 weeks away from solid foods. That said, I was told that, once I can eat solid foods, I should eat a bar rather than drink a shake (as the shake will go right thru the stoma and not be satisfying). The problem I see is that all the bars I can find have a high calorie to Protein ratio. Anyone have any suggestions for a descent tasting Protein Bar that is relatively low calorie?
  19. The good news is my surgery went well. Now the hard part... - I have gained weight since pre-op while eating virtually nothing - I cant sleep on my side due to discomfort - it feels like my stomach muscles are so tight it is harf to stand straight - I have pain in my upper back Normal? Anything I should do to move the process along?

    Protein bar of choice

Good question. I do plan to ear protein with my core meal but was led to believe that I would still need a supplement.

  22. I am curious, how many weeks did you Dr. recommend liquids before mushies before introducing solid foods. My Dr. say 0-2--> 2-4 --> 4+. I just read a book that recommended 1--> 2-->3. I plan to follow my doctors guidelines but I am still curious.
  23. I am very excited. I went to my Dr. for the first time 2 weeks ago. I started on the all liquid diet immediately. Last Wednesday I had the nutritionist, pulmonary, Upper GI, general health exam, physical therapist and the bariatric surgeon appointments. I am now approved all set for surgery Wednesday. Wahoo!
  24. I am getting banded in 10 days. I realize that I am doing this to make a change in my life and will need to eat properly. That said, Ii was wondering, which foods I will not be physically able to eat again EVER. I know I shouldn't but will I be physically able to ever eat/drink: - a piece of steak - a slice of pizza - a beer - a few bites of cake - a nacho - a cashew I am committed to eating a proper diet but I hate to think I will never taste these items again. Any other foods I will never be able to physically digest again? What is your experience?
