Has anyone gone from vsg to rny, if so what was your experience?

I went from VSG to RNY due to excessive GERD issues. Things have been good thus far....I'm about 6 weeks out...weight loss is slow but steady. I wish I had gone for the RNY first. I think that's where my greatest success on this journey will come from.

    Hello,

I had the VSG about 9 years ago. Bad reflux for the last 2 years. Doctors recommend to go full bypass surgery to stop reflux. Anyone heard or know of anyone who experienced this? thank you.

I had VSG in July of last year....revised to bypass due to excessive GERD September 26th this year. Best decision ever!!!!!!

No clue what I did wrong... Came out of nowhere!

I hate that you are experiencing such unpleasant episode. I disagree about it not sounding like dumping. I'm about 4 weeks out and this sounds very similar to what I experienced. I too thought it came out of nowhere but later found out it was dumping from 2 tortilla chips I ate like 30mins or so before episode started. I walked and walked, I took my gas medicine....pepcid and reglan. Took about 1 to hour to and a half but It FINALLY let up. The dry heaving was the worst.....thought I was going to detach an organ and spit it up. IT WILL PASS, I PROMISE. I agree that it wouldn't hurt to let you doc know though.

  4. Thanks.... I'm so paranoid and have become a slave to the scale. Just found my tape measure and am going to get my measurements to monitor. I have been freaking out the last few days about the scale. Wish I could go to the gym but still feeling a pull and some pain. I have been walking daily. Guess, I need to learn to relax some. [emoji4]
Prkitty I just passed my 3 weeks post op GB and experiencing the same things. A stall, some discomfort and pain on my left side and near navel area where the most surgical treatment happened. I want to start on light weights for my arms and squats but have been to afraid!

How much do you walk per day?

  6. I'm 4 weeks post op today. It's still really hard getting my Protein requirements and enough fluids each day. So I'm sure I'm tired from not eating enough!! How is everyone else going?

Maybe that's my issue... not enough protein! I'm so exhausted most days and I'm 3 weeks tomorrow and geez I'm struggling! Any suggestions friends.. Water and Protein are extremely hard to get in. [emoji15]

    Hi KBridge,

I’m well. Traveled last week for work and it was tiring! I had my first bite of real food last night and that tiny amount of chicken salad might have been the best thing ever. Super frustrated that the scale didn’t move the whole week I was gone though. Ugh! Like how is that possible. I’m hoping I was swollen from flying.

Still some pain on left side but so much better. How are you?

I'm doing okay. Still extremely fatigued though and having trouble getting enough Water or food but getting better everyday. I also still have pain on the left side and the incision right above my belly button.

scale is moving but I still can't see it yet...apparently everybody else can.

our bodies are peculiar machines...I have no doubt that you will get back to losing again. Stay in touch! ;)

  8. Hi elcee, I had the band placed in 2006. Last year after years of battle and complications with my band, I revised to the Gastric Sleeve. Well since I always go big or go home (in my sarcastic voice) I had a stricture and severe heart band so was converted to the Gastric bypass almost 3 weeks ago. The eating for each is different but there is a definite difference in the lap band and the bypass. with the bypass, you have to take small sips of liquid...im progressing in introducing new foods.

I can honestly say that even though I'm still in the early learning phases I wish I had started out with this procedure. It definitely provides structure and discipline in the new way of eating and making good choices.

Couping With Tight Days Pouch Days...

I am seven weeks post sleeve to RNY gastric bypass revision, and All things considered, I am doing Quite well. No Hair loss or excessive tiredness (knock on wood), I am working out 1 to 2 hours a day, I have lost a total of 33 pounds, of which 20 have been since surgery day and I have started a new and healthy vegan lifestyle in which I have wonderful green smoothies for Breakfast and focus on live colorful nutrition to heal and repair my body.

The one thing that I do struggle with from time to time is tight days. These are days in which I wake up, and from the moment I take my first sip of Water I say oh no... because I realize nothing is going to go down well. My attempts to drink anything let alone eat cause a lot of belching discomfort and my stomach just balls up and rejects the notion of eating anything. This, of course leads to tiredness and dehydration and the worst part is that I cannot seem to tie it to the consumption of any particular food or substance the previous day so it makes it hard to control or prevent these types of days. This also needs to dehydration as I try not to stop what I do and still go about my business and still workout as normal. But If I do try to eat or drink then I will get the foamies and eventually throw up :(

Today is a tight today and although I am working out etc, it is just not a good and healthy feeling to be doing so on zero food and Water. But the alternative is to ball up and suffer and I’m not one to go down without a fight. Does anyone else suffer with These kinds of days, and do you have any advice or insight as to how I can deal with it or make it better?

Hi Ellie123! I am experiencing the exact same thing. Severe cramping after sipping water or eating soft foods. I'm 2 weeks out today...YAY so not working out yet, just walking some and trying to learn my new stomach. I am struggling to get in enough Protein or water and am concerned that something bad will happen. Today is a day that I should be introducing deli meats/cheeses etc. but I'm afraid to put anything in my mouth besides sugar free popsicles.

My goodness I hope this resolves soon but looks like I still have some time to deal with it if you're at 7 weeks. YIKES

    Good luck to you Ellie123.

  10. My preop op phase was more like my food funeral stage. Things I knew I probably could not have for a while or ever I ate! I had just discovered bread pudding and omg! I had one everyday almost. Postop....I had a baked potatoe with cheese butter and sour cream yesterday... my interpretation of mashed potatoes[emoji854]
