  1. I think your feelings are normal...remember, you were under general anesthesia only a day ago and that's enough to mess anyone up. The first few days are a bit rough but they do get better (I had my surgery on the 5th). What is under your steri strips? Do you have staples? I had staples and just regular bandages and while I didn't have any trouble initially, I started to react to the staples and by the time I got them out they were driving me nuts! Apparently in stainless steel there are a few other things like nickel mixed in and I was obviously having a reaction to that. If you are reacting this quickly to something, you should check with your doc. Anyway, this is a great place to learn more about what to expect and find people who are going through or have gone through the same thing as you. Hope you feel better soon!

    Hi from canada

Hi from another Canadian! I'm in Manitoba and there are no meetings here, first time I've heard of them actually. But if there were, I would probably try to go (I was banded Jan 5th). There are some pretty major effects to your eating and drinking when you have a lap band. You can probably google and find some in depth detail but there are some foods you may never eat again like bread because they get stuck. I think some people can eat bread but everyone is different. Anyway, just wanted to say hi and recommend that you read read read to find out exactly what you are getting into.
  3. Hopeful7, you really need protein for your body to repair itself from the surgery so try to get some in. Yesterday I had a Boost drink and a half can of cream of chicken Soup all day and it felt like too much so I know what you mean about not being hungry but the protein and the fluids are essential. Take care
  4. Hi Everyone, I was just banded on Jan 5th, 2011 and am in Winnipeg, MB Canada. I`m doing okay, 3 days post op and looking forward to getting to know some of you here. I am down about 20lbs from the pre-op diet but I hear this may stall for the next few weeks. In Canada this is a surgery that is not covered by health care so I had to pay out of pocket. Generally the first fill is 6 weeks post op. It`s quite a journey to be on but I`m looking forward to being able to do a lot more with my 3 kids. I`ve chosen not to tell anyone about the surgery except my husband of course and my dad who is in another province. I`m curious to know what other people have chosen in this regard. Well, off to try and get more fluids into me...I`ve never been a ``sipper`` lol.

    January Bandsters

I'm doing okay, still recovering, thanks for asking. Took the bandages off to reveal the staples today (yuck) and trying to take it slow with the liquids but learning that what seems like a little bit is still too much. Looking forward to being a few more days down the road to hopefully be pain free! And looking forward to having a few more January buddies
  6. I hope everything went well yesterday! I was banded just 3 days ago but have a lot more weight to lose than you...i had to do 2 weeks of pre-op diet, 2 shakes and a bar every day. The recovery is a bit painful but I can notice a difference each morning that things are improving. I haven`t told anyone but my husband and father, not even my kids know, they think I`m just sick right now. Glad you have support and look forward to hearing how your surgery went.
  7. I would check with your doctor, 4 weeks seems like a long time unless there was something unusual with your surgery. For my surgery, the first 2 weeks are things like protein supplement drinks, clear or cream soups with no chunks, yogurt, applesauce, baby food, etc. Phase 2 is 2 to 4 weeks and includes soft solids like soups with noodles or small chunks, cottage cheese, eggs, mashed beans, oatmeal, soft cooked veggies, canned fruit...I`m looking forward to phase 2 but am only 3 days post op. Did your doctor give you any kind of handout at all...I would definitely check. Four weeks seems like a long time but I wouldn`t do anything without checking first. Good luck!

    Day 2 Post Op

I had my surgery on Wednesday evening, so the same day as you I think. I didn`t have a hernia repair but would guess that would make the recovery a little slower. Hope you`re feeling better. I have a headache today and I think it`s because of not enough fluids. I did really well on the fluids the first two days but then seemed to drop off and I think the headache is the result. What did they close your incisions with...I have staples and took the bandages off today...yuck! I`ve been trying Boost drinks for breakfast (the diabetic ones even though I`m not diabetic) and cream soups for lunch and supper (half can for lunch, half can for supper). Better than the pre-op diet that`s for sure. Nervous to get on the scale for the first time. Take care and I hope we can follow each other`s progress.

    Manitoba anyone?

Hi Everyone, I just had my surgery at Maples on Wednesday evening (Jan 5th). Still tender and sore, will take the bandages off tomorrow to see what the staples look like. Hope to see some people coming back here for more discussion, I'd like to see how some of you are doing who had the surgery a long time ago.
