  1. JulieG (nu2ywg) checking in at 214. I didn't make my goal but I did lose 5 lb this month which is better than gaining. I will probably join the September challenge but I'm going to have a personal goal to be below 200 by the time I go on my trip to the east coast in November. I haven't been there since we moved away in June 2010 when I weighed well over 300 lb and no one there (including my mother) knows I've had the band. My mom knows I've lost weight but no one else even knows that so I'm excited for the reactions. Congrats to all of you who have made your goal for the month! Joan, wow, the band slipping doesn't sound like a good experience at all. I'm sorry that you have to be stuck on liquids and mushies, I hope that fixes it for you.
  2. JulieG (nu2ywg) checking in at 214.6, that's down two and a half pounds! I'm pretty pleased with that considering we did a day trip to the States for shopping on Saturday (and ate in 'merican restaurants) and then ate at Perkins last night. I'm still 5lb from my goal. Leaving Wednesday for some camping which will be a challenge. I'll be on my own with 3 kids for most of it while hubby works and less access to healthy food, no scale, no gym etc. We'll see what happens. If only I had a bike trailer for my youngest I could bike around with the older kids...any ideas for camping fitness with kids are welcome.

    stool softeners

    I took the softeners for a bit after surgery but since then I've done supplements instead...started with benefibre, now doing fiberwise. I think I would have a lot of trouble if I didn't. My protein goal is 70g per day.

  6. JulieG (nu2ywg) checking in at 217. That's down 3 from last week but 1 from the start because I had gained 2 last week. A lot of ground to cover in the next couple weeks! And btw Larry, hormonal changes in a woman can affect a lot...fat contains a lot of estrogen. Losing fat is certain to affect a woman significantly. Many woman can retain up to 5lbs of Water when approaching their time of the month. Since losing 100lbs I think I have started ovulating again and find that now twice in the month I fluctuate...I also have a harder time controlling cravings during those times too...so while I understand your sarcasm, there is some validity in my complaint last week. I checked around Wednesday and was actually up to 222 and definitely haven't done anything miraculous to be 217 this morning. I'm certainly relieved though!

    First time shopping since losing...

    Way to go!!! What a great feeling, isn't it? I'm also enjoying shopping The three pair of summer capris I bought in the spring are now baggy. I bought a size 14 dress yesterday and although it's a bit snug just under the bust, I'm wearing it out to dinner with hubby on Monday and I am STOKED! Haven't worn a 14 anything in probably a decade! I don't have to shop at plus size stores anymore and that makes this band SO worth it.

Considering your trials with infertility I'm sure you are ecstatic If you are 4 weeks post op and 6-8 weeks pg, you would have been having surgery around the time of your period, right? Could easily have been too early to detect. Just in case you are worried, I had general anaesthesia when my 8yo was just barely there...they thought he was ectopic because they couldn't see him on the ultrasound. Since I had a history of ectopic pg's I had the laparoscopy and they discovered that he was not ectopic and I spent the next couple of weeks worrying my butt off that the anaesthesia would cause me to miscarry. But he's 8 now and fine. Get yourself to a doctor and find out what to do asap, definitely find out about appropriate vitamins! And enjoy your pregnancy while you are at it

    Have you counted your actual grams of protein? It might be worth checking before you go spending money on supplements or other things.
  11. So excited to see the scale this morning as I'm now halfway to my goal! That's still a LOT of pounds to lose but it's a lot of pounds gone too I feel so happy that I took the step to get the band. It's not all a bed of roses...I have been having gall bladder attacks and may end up needing it removed but I think that's better than diabetes, stroke, sore knees everyday and not being able to enjoy my children. Hope you are all having a wonderful day and that you are experiencing satisfaction with your weight loss.

    New Problem I've Never Had Before...

    I have seen a couple of posts on here about delayed reactions to fills...I have no idea how that could happen but it seems to be happening to you. It could also be related to some of the things "klariade" mentioned. Hope you get it sorted out as it doesn't really sound fun for you right now and probably not healthy either.

    Drinking while eating

    I followed the no drinking with meals for many months after surgery (January 2011) but just recently stopped following that rule a few weeks ago because I am trying a new vitamin program (multi, antioxidant, calcium x 2, probiotic). I'm supposed to take the vitamins with meals and obviously I can't do that if I can't drink. I tried taking them a half hour before food with water but they made me a bit nauseous so I now take the morning ones with a protein shake and the evening ones immediately after supper with water. My weight is still dropping and while I'm not a perfect bandster by any stretch, I think I've done really well on my journey so far. If I were you, I'd stick to the rules to see how you do and then if all is well you can try different things but if something stops your weight loss, go back to what you were doing before.
  16. I didn't tell anyone but my husband and my dad & stepmom because I didn't want anyone scrutinizing me or even paying attention to what I was doing. But seeing as you've told some people already and it's not working out so well you could either drop them from any updates (as in just say you want to be more private about it from now on) and carry on your merry way OR you could give them a crash course on what the band is all about: explain that the reason it's great is that it's NOT bypass so the weightloss is much slower and healthier (ie, 1 to 2 years to lose what you want), how the fills work and how you are not even at a stage where the banding is doing much yet etc etc. I hope you are able to make a choice and deal with this because these friends could really bring you down and you are doing really great. I'd hate to see you affected by that.

  19. I had my surgery in January and I rarely go a day without weighing myself. I wish I wouldn't. The days I skip are usually the days that I've eaten more than I should (or made poor choices) so I want a chance to lose any gains before I check. It's a stupid head game but so far I'm losing well so I'm not going to punish myself for it.
  20. So I had a headache the other day and I decided to take a couple of tylenol with my Crystal light. I guess I must have taken them too quickly or something. I was just sitting on the couch at the time and after a few moments of discomfort, and without any effort on my part, up came the crystal light and just poured all over me. I was so surprised because it was like I had no control whatsoever...didn't even move to stand up and run to washroom because I had absolutely no idea it was about to happen. It seems very strange to me since I've been eating real food and not had this happen. The two tylenol must have stuck in just the right way and blocked the crystal light from going down. Anyone else have anything like this happen? I guess it highlights for me the need to chew properly if something so tiny as tylenol could do that to me. Crazy!

    Not sure why you are posting in the January 2011 category...we all just were banded a few months ago...but I hope you can find your motivation again and maybe talk to your doc or clinic, they may have suggestions for you.

    6th Week

    That doesn't sound pleasant at all. So you think it was your fill that did that, or a stomach bug? Sounds like a stomach bug to me. I've been fortunate not to get any stomach bugs yet and am not looking forward to when it does happen. I have had some really bad gallbladder attacks that have made me nauseous and I've had to heave but absolutely nothing but saliva came out. That actually worries me a bit for when I get a flu and need to get stuff out!

    need help

    I eat a lot of the same stuff I used to...I cook for my family and skip the high carb side whether it be potato, rice or Pasta. So I have pork, chicken, fish, sometimes beef, whatever vegetable I'm serving and sometimes salad. If spaghetti is the main course I will usually have something different, maybe leftovers from another meal. I think there are some recipe websites for bariatric cooking but you have to be careful not to get food that's too mushy. Good luck! Oh, and by the way, my nutritionist actually said to me once that the people who seem to have the most success are the ones with routines both in activity AND food (ie they eat a lot of the same stuff most of the time). Just an fyi.
