Hello all,
I am currently in the waiting process, which makes me a little anxious. I had my initial consultation on January 4, 2011. At that time my BMI was (sad to type) 45. I have hypothyroidism, PCOS which causes me to be insulin resistant, and I have a family history of heart disease and diabetes. During my initial consult I was told that I am definitely a candidate. I was also informed that my insurance is amazing, and there should be no problem getting me approved. I have UHC Choice Plus (PPO) through my husband's company. The only thing they require is a BMI over 40 which I have and a 5 year weight history. The only thing that makes me nervous is I do not have a 5 year weight history. Also, I am not sure that my BMI was over 35 for all of those 5 years. I know if fluctuated a great deal, but I was a bit smaller before I started having trouble with my thyroid. I checked with the surgeon's office on Wednesday and they had not received all my medical records from the various physicians I have seen. I contacted the doctor's offices and told them to be on the lookout for a medical records request. On Friday, I checked back with my surgeon's office and they said they received some but not all. This process gives me anxiety! Anyways, I am posting because I wanted feedback. Has anyone else been approved without the five year weight history? Also, I am thinking my BMI would indicate a need for surgery. My patient advocate stated that they want me to prepare myself to have surgery in February. I am praying that all goes well as I am ready to have the surgery. In the meantime, I am doing all the research I can.
Thanks,
Courtney
