  1. Hello all, My paperwork has finally been submitted. It was submitted on Friday to United Healthcare. I am hoping to hear back from them soon. I know that my BMI wasn't over 35 for all of my 5 year history, but it has been over 35 for the last two and a half years. My current BMI is 45, and i have Hypothyroidism, PCOS, and am insulin resistant (pre-diabetic). Hopefully, I will get approved and scheduled for surgery sometime in February!!!! Courtney

My paperwork has been submitted to my insurance company for approval. I will update you whenever I get an answer.
  3. Hey there, How long did the entire process take for you? I have the same insurance. Also, I was not over 35 BMI for the entire portion. I was over 35 for about 2 1/2 years of those 5 years. I am hoping to get approved in the next week or so. My records were submitted for approval on Friday! Congrats to you!!! Courtney
  4. Hello all, I am currently in the waiting process, which makes me a little anxious. I had my initial consultation on January 4, 2011. At that time my BMI was (sad to type) 45. I have hypothyroidism, PCOS which causes me to be insulin resistant, and I have a family history of heart disease and diabetes. During my initial consult I was told that I am definitely a candidate. I was also informed that my insurance is amazing, and there should be no problem getting me approved. I have UHC Choice Plus (PPO) through my husband's company. The only thing they require is a BMI over 40 which I have and a 5 year weight history. The only thing that makes me nervous is I do not have a 5 year weight history. Also, I am not sure that my BMI was over 35 for all of those 5 years. I know if fluctuated a great deal, but I was a bit smaller before I started having trouble with my thyroid. I checked with the surgeon's office on Wednesday and they had not received all my medical records from the various physicians I have seen. I contacted the doctor's offices and told them to be on the lookout for a medical records request. On Friday, I checked back with my surgeon's office and they said they received some but not all. This process gives me anxiety! Anyways, I am posting because I wanted feedback. Has anyone else been approved without the five year weight history? Also, I am thinking my BMI would indicate a need for surgery. My patient advocate stated that they want me to prepare myself to have surgery in February. I am praying that all goes well as I am ready to have the surgery. In the meantime, I am doing all the research I can. Thanks, Courtney
  5. Hello all, My name is Courtney and I am 27 years old. I am about 100 pounds overweight and ready to make a change. Prior to my current battle, I was a personal trainer. I worked out daily and was in great shape. That was until my hormones went south. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism following a year of gaining weight and battling doctors. Following this, I was diagnosed with PCOS. For the past two years, I have been on every diet and done some extreme exercise programs. All of these attempts have failed, which is why I decided to have Lapband surgery. I went for my initial consultation two days ago. My patient advocate told me that my history, weight, and health issues will definitely qualify me. Not to mention my husband has wonderful insurance. My patient advocate told me to plan on having surgery in 30 days. I am very excited and ready to end this current chapter in my life and move on to the next. I know it will not be easy, but I am up for the challenge. I am glad to be here and share my journey with everyone and hear/read about the journeys of others. Thanks, Courtney
