  1. Am I the only one having a hard time losing the weight? I am almost 8 weeks out and yes, I have lost some, but it seems like I am not losing like most people on here do. I am up a pound, down an half pound, then back to where I started. I am 56 years old so maybe my loss will be slower than someone who is more active, but I am getting so depressed. I went back to work last week and there is a constant parade of food that comes into our office. I have resisted, but every day is harder. I cannot eat much at a meal, but I know that I could snack my way into a gain. Things like chicken seem to still choke me, but yet a few almonds here and then another few an hour later don't bother me at all. It took me 8 months and lots of prayer to get the surgery, and I am so afraid that I am going to fail at this. Since I went back to work I want to snack all day and sometimes it's all I think about. I leave early and it's almost dark when I get home. I sit at a desk all day with very little time to get away from it. Is there anyone with ideas on how to tame this?
  2. Sleeve! I did the reseach for 9 months before I finally had surgery Aug. 31st. I looked for the downside of each. People live without a stomach all the time for different reasons - usually ulcers - but they do just fine. 49 lbs down and I sometimes forget I had it done.
  3. The day after I got home from the hospital I went to the bathroom thinking I was going to throw up. At the second dry heave I felt like something tore at my waistline. That was on Sept 2nd, and I still have pain there. My MD first said I probably tore a stitch, then after the first month he says that I must have pulled the stitch all the way through the muscle. The pain is not right at one of the incisions. It is close to my bellybutton and right at my waist. I hurts to ride with anything on except my scrub pants and I cannot do situps, plus just bending over for any length of time makes it hurt. Has anyone else had a problem like this? My MD kind of blew it off, but it doesn't seem to be getting better.
  4. Absolutely NOT! It took me 8 months to get this approved and every day of those 8 months I researched the pros and cons. I looked everywhere for anything negative about doing this. Please don't listen to what one person tells you. Yes, this is surgery and yes, the first couple of days were not pleasant, but all these years of struggling were not pleasant either. You risk dying because of being overweight too. Does she care about that? Just thank her for caring and go on your way. I had lots of negative remarks too and some of them were just because people cared about me and were concerned that something would go wrong, and some were because they were used to fat Kathy and I guess it made them feel better about themselves whether they were overweight or not. But the people that truly care about me also knew how unhappy I was weighing what I did. I wish you lots of luck!

    Slow weight loss

I thank you both so much for the reply! I don't feel like I am the only one that is slow losing now. Do you mind telling me what you have for a snack? I came to work early this morning so I could walk around this complex and it made me feel like I was getting something done. I plan to keep this up. I will look you both up on myfitnesspal this weekend. Thanks again, Kathy

So sorry to hear about your injury! Sounds like you blew out your quad. Hope you will be fine with no surgery.

    Shirataki noodles are the bomb!

How did you prepare the squash?
  8. I hit the stall at 2 weeks out. I cannot move the scales except back and forth over the same 2 pounds. I am so depressed about this right now. I feel like I am doing everything right, but I guess I am so used to failing at this that I can't help but feel this is not working for me. I know how stalls are in regular diets - I have stayed the same for days and then dropped 5 pounds seemingly overnight, but this has gone on for almost 2 weeks. Chin up for both of us. THere is no way we are going to keep taking in so few calories and stay the same weight!
  9. i am 4 weeks out tomorrow. I am still having problems eating, (Pain), but I am walking about a mile a day and I know i am not eating quite enough. MY problem is that I hit a stall a week and a half ago and the scale just moves up a pound, down a pound, up 2 pounds, down one pound. I know this is supposed to be normal, but I just cannot go back to where I was a week and a half ago! I am so upset about this. Right now I am afraid I am going to fail at this.
  10. I am so discouraged! I am 4 weeks out. I lost weight on the week of liquids. I lost weight the first week or so after surgery. That's it. I know for certain that I am not eating but about 500 hundred calories a day, and I know I should be eating more, but just can't yet. I struggle to get in enough protein in. I am NOT letting "soft" calories slip in. I am walking a mile everyday. Why is my body hanging onto this weight? I have tried to be patient because all of us know that we have yo-yo'ed our way to this point. Our bodies go into starvation mode when we suddenly stop eating after the first couple of weeks. I know all this, but its time to start moving the scales now and they just won't change. I an up and down the same 2 pounds every day. The scale has not moved below that in almost 2 weeks. Someone out there please tell me if you are having this problem and when it changed.

    Bariatric Fusion

I watched a YouTube video by someone that I have been following that has some information on Bariatric Fusion products. I haven't ordered this yet, but I think I am going to give it a try. I am having problems getting in enough protein and like a lot of people the drinks are not going down well after surgery. This company was founded by a PA from a bariatric surgeon's office. The drink has 27 grams of protein and the lady says they are great! She said the group were all given samples of all the products. Apparently her surgeon sells vitamins and drinks too and she swears these are so much better than anything else she has tried. Has anyone else tried these?
  12. I felt the same way! I had all the negative feeling from failing at every diet to the guilt of doing this and risking my life therefore hurting my family, to shame of people knowing I was this out of control. But i know I was dying a slow but sure death because if the health risks of being so fat. I had everyone telling me I wasn't big enough to consider this to hearing that I should give Weight Watchers another try . (By the way I was 5"6" and 245 the day I started my liquids so I KNOW I am big enough!) But I weighed my risks of surgery with the lifelong struggle - the always wanting to wear something I couldn't, beginning to not fit in seats, etc. and I just knew it was worth the risks. I have had a couple of rough days this week because I have so much trouble getting in food and enough fluid. Now THAT"S a first! Pray my friend. Only you can decide, But I know it is going to be worth it for me when I can walk as far as I want to, and wear clothes that have a little shape to them. I will keep you in my prayers! Kathy
  13. All of mine are hard knots after 15 days, but I am hoping they smooth out. They are healing very well. I work with a OT and she really does a great job on surgery scars with massage. especially using a little vibrator. (Yes, it looks pretty much like a "toy", but i order these from medical supply.)
  14. Hi Janet! I am extra glad to see you on here since we have so much in common! I am 56 and had my surgery 8/31/11. First couple of days were rough, but they kept pain and nausea under excellent control. I was shocked at how well I could walk the hall by that night. My weight was 245 on the day I started my week of liquids and my last weigh in was 218, so I am really glad of that. I have not lost any in several days, but I have no problem with that. I have read enough on here to know this is normal and this too will pass. I had a couple of set backs the last few days and have gone back for fluids twice, so they are going to show up on the scales for a day or so. I wish for you a smooth, safe surgery. Get home soon and don't think anyone is not telling the the truth when they say to sip, sip, sip! Take your meds and walk! Kathy
  15. I am doing well today. It has been a rough road. i have been to the ER for fluids and CT scans on Monday and then yesterday back to the MD and then to the hospital for more fluids and to have another CT scan to check for a PE. So far I have lost 27 lbs since the day I started the liquid diet so I am pleased with that. Sorry I havent felt like being on here much. Kathy

    57 before/57 after

Hurray for you! I am on my second day of pre-op liquids and I am STARVING! Please tell me it gets better. Surgery is next Wednesday the 31st. Congrats on your loss.
  18. My date is 8/31 for surgery. I start the liquids next Wednesday. I am scared, but so ready for this! I am just praying that it will take away the cravings for food every waking minute. I know it's a tool and it will still be a day to day process, but I just want to stop wanting to eat the way I do. You look so good!

    Anyone from Alabama?

Lanett, Alabama. I have a August 31st surgery date. Are you close to me?
  21. I finally heard from the insurance company! Approved! I am so excited. But wouldn't you know that the surgeons office closed early today and I couldn't get an appointment. I want to get there as soon as I can. I was on the schedule for the 1st, but got bumped because I had to re-do some things. It's going to be a good weekend!
  22. Thank you so much for your reply. I think your experience shook me up a little, but I am so glad to face things as they really are. I have been so depressed for the last week or so because i thought it was just not going to happen. My Facebook name is Kathy Sides Maynard. I am so glad to see how well you are doing and I look forward to sharing my journey with you.

    Magic bullet

I had had one for 2 years. It sits under my counter. I wasn't really impressed with it then, but I plan to drag it back out now that I have been approved for surgery. I am very interested in what other people have used it for.
  24. You guys are the first to hear after my husband. I got approved about 5 minutes ago! I have no idea what my next step is. Called the doctor's office, but I got a recording. I think I'm a little numb right now.

  25. wow! I am so glad for you. I wish I could get started!
