  1. Mattie- I understand you are in a sticky wicket situation... you seem like a reasonable person and I am sure that you will figure an amenable way to handle that is comfortable for you. Sorry if that s a deflective answer!
  2. So interesting.. thanks for sharing.. I will speak to my doc for more info. They never mention this in any of the synposiums I attended.. awesome progress you've made!!
  3. Thanks for the responses... If some of you would have read the initial post.. I was asking wine drinkers if their pallette had changed once the received the band... and now it has turned to this. I am not running away like a two year old.. I just am not going to tolerate unwanted "abuse" from a stranger which I think being called stupid is... There are some folks on here who make sense and I will presumably just contact them individually. I think I'll go have a nice glass of wine now Cheers!

    Dr. Hollis' Patients

I'm sorry.. I sure did not mean to worry you! If you were just having the base I'm sure that is fine. You will read so many different things on this site... but I'm sure you have not done any damage.. your body would "tell" you. I have found the nurses/advocates at the office helpful and they ring you back pretty quickly. Good luck to you and keep in touch.
  5. I am a little confused on the vagus nerve stimulation that I see some people writing about on here..... if it is about the vagus nerve (which is located in the head/neck) then why do we get the band on the stomach? VNS is used for a variety of things but I have not seen for weight loss thru the band anyway. Can someone please forward me the literature on this? Seems the VNS would be less intrusive than the lapband.. diet wise anyway. Thanks! "There's one vagus nerve on each side of your body. Each nerve runs from your brainstem through your neck and down to your chest and abdomen. With vagus nerve stimulation, a device called a pulse generator is surgically implanted in your chest. A wire threaded under your skin connects the pulse generator to the left vagus nerve in your neck. The pulse generator sends out electrical signals along the vagus nerve to your brain. These signals affect mood centers of your brain, which may improve depression symptoms."
  6. After many discouraging and unhelpful responses... I guess I'm going to give this a go somewhere else. I think people's morality gets too involved on this site. I'm sure I've been called a lots worse than stupid by a lot better. I am following the diet and have lost 23 lbs so far, and do not regret my little two glasses of wine, which is hardly my normal intake of alcohol. Been there, done that, eff off.
  7. Wow.. FtoF.. thanks for your pontificating response.... I did ask the nurse and she said a glass of wine would not be harmful.. i.e. hurting the band.
  8. I was looking for *Beerguts* original thread... but could not find it. I was banded 10 days ago and did have 2 glasses of red wine last night. I know, I know, wine is not on the post op diet list... but only 3 carbs and 100 cal/glass.. so do not think the end of the world. Anyway, wine tasted different, I guess my pallette wil change? Any other wine drinkers notice that? Happy Happy New Year! I am sooo excited for 2011!

    Dr. Hollis' Patients

Hi... I was with Dr. Hollis as well. Hope you are doing well. I understood as follows per the 4 page post op diet. The one that says "post this on your refrigerator". Week 1- Jello, Protein shakes, and chicken broth... including the smoothie king Protein shake if you want.. it is not a smoothie.. it's like having the fruit punch flavored protein shakes.. not like you are eating fresh fruit. Week 2- Protein shakes, Soup (YAY!).. but not campbells chunky or anything.. I have been sticking to tomato, cream of whatever... no rice/potato, and then low carb, sugar free yogurt... (2/day) Plus jello and broth as "snacks". This is NOT the mushy stage yet. My one cheat was trying to get a little tuna down and ate it too fast and it came right back up! My bad there. Week 3- This is mushy stage... I plan for mashed up tuna, chicken in a can and overcooked veg, eggs... plus all of the above as well. You know how anti-carb he is.. a lot of folks have been doing mashed potatoes and such but I know the pre-op diet of low/no carb WORKS so am sticking to it. Not sure about measuring 4 oz... was just going to eyeball 1/2 cup..really am going to test my restriction as well... what do you think? Week 4- Solids. How has your experience been other than issues with post-op diet? I really like his staff... have not spent any time with him per say. Happy New Year! Kelli

    Going Potty ?

Hi.. I was the same and rang the nurse to see if I should take something. She said not necessary becasue nothing really to form stool in there! Yesterday was day 9 and I had some soup and that got things going again.... As long as you do not feel bunged up I would let nature take its course.
  11. I agree with others on telling the chiro.. after all chiros are "doctors" as well yes? BUT, I have a kind of funny story.. I was at the grocery buying a load of Jello for the first two weeks and pudding for the next two, plus vat size boxes of chicken broth, so the check out girl said "wow, that's a lot of jello, what are you making?" While my first instinct was to be a smart ass and say I was having a jello wrestling contest at my house and was she interested in intending.. I said I just had bariatric surgery. I got the puzzled deer in headlights stare in return. Most poeple do not know the word "bariatric" and since most people also do not want to look ignorant will not ask what that is and just let it pass. This is my plan for strangers/aquaintances. I am pretty open with everyone else... I'm a successful adult and make my own decisions and anyone that is important to me knows this. Happy New Year everyone!

    Scared

I was banded on 12/22 and similar to other folks I was nauseous directly after surgery, my fault however for sipping the water to fast. After that no nausea at all. I have, however, the first time I tried to eat tuna yesterday, not chewed up enough/ate too fast and had to spit it back up. It's not a nauseous feeling at all, just a tightness in your chest, I just kind of coughed and up it came. I was worried abt that awful sick to stomach feeling as well but from what I have read and personal experience, the band does not cause nausea at all, but may cause you to "spit" up in lieu of vomitting. Make sense? Good luck to you!

    Need a protein shake

I am drinking the Mega Protein shakes mixed with water not milk. This was after trying about four other kinds that I thought tasted like mold mixed with vomit. I, too was allowed, protein shakes the day after surgery, but as mentioned quite often on this site the different surgeons have different ideas.
  14. You betcha! I'm a wine drinker.. and was banded on the 21... am looking forwad to it! Will not go as crazy as usual and am assuming the low calories intake will directly impact the amount of wine needed to get a buzz..Happy New Year!
