  1. In can do puree and soft foods. This is What i have been eating, sf pudding, sf popicles, refried Beans, cream of mushroom Soup, cottage cheese, and greek yogurt.

My list of soft foods includes deli meat. So, I get 2 different deli meats (usually London broil roast beef and turkey) and I measure out 3 ounces for lunch and dinner. There's about 20 g of Protein in the deli meat. You can also have chicken salad, egg salad, tuna salad. I'm not a fish person but I think most baked fish is "soft." I do deli meats, string cheese, unsweetened applesauce. I can even have regular chicken if it is cooked in a crock pot and very moist. Hope that helps!

  2. Ok fellow dec sleevers ... Here are my updates:

    Sleeved on 16th.

    Starting weight: 277

Pre op diet weight/day of surgery: 264

    Weight today: 241

I am 5'11 (female) and was told to eat 80 gs of Protein a day. I have struggled to even get 50 at times ...

Thanks to those that posted a reply to my question on some Protein alternatives. I stomach unjurys protein really well and this has helped me quite a bit.

Im crushing a bunch of nutrients/vitamins still and they taste so awful that I tend to want to throw them up ... Any suggestions??

Also, keep the faith! I have seen and feel a significant weight loss already and I know all of you can do it! We are in this and we are in it for the long haul. One day at a time. When the going gets tough I just remember the sacrifice that got me (us) here and do not want it to go in vain. Here is to better healthy lifestyle filled with adventures!

I cannot stand the Bariatric Advantage multi or chewable Iron. Yuck! They are sour but not good like Sweetarts. I feel sick after having either one. I went back to my Gummy Vitamins from Walmart. I was told not to have them only because they don't have everything we need in them. I figure it's better than nothing! I even tried just cutting the chewable Iron in 2 pieces and swallowing them whole, and still didn't feel good. I'll go back to my regularly prescribed iron tablets soon.

  3. I was sleeved on dec 19. I have been noticing some pain in my lower stomach nothing to major. Today I woke up with pain in the middle of my lower back. It hurts to walk. Has anyone else ex pierced this??

Are your incisions better? The pain in your stomach and back, could it be Constipation? Have you been going regularly?

If your incisions are not better, I think you're far enough out that maybe they should be looked at. I was sleeved on the 13th and 4 of mine are barely tiny scratches and 1 has a circular scab and still healing.

    Hope you feel better!

  4. Honey's I'M HOMMME!! I'm soooo glad to be here. Yippie:). Ty again for ur prayers as I continued n will continue lifting u all up as well. I got on the scale finally and I'll post it here as well bc Ik not everyone is n the lbs loss forum...

Wonderful news!! Continue to take it easy and enjoy being home!

  5. I must not have had this "stitch" as I have no pain on the left side or anywhere and never heard a "pop". I am back at work and occassionally carry items heavier than 5 lbs. there. I also have forgotten and picked up one of my dogs @ 21 lbs.

Do you think all surgeons make this stitch?

BTW back to work on 01/02/14, today was the 3rd day back at work…for those feeling bad, take heart, because if you would have told me I could do well at work after my surgery on 12/16 - and even a at Christmas, I would have laughed!

Its hard to believe that we can get by all day working after eating 450-600 calories all day! I feel tired but not as tired as I thought. More tired today because I stayed up to watch the first episode of "Downton Abbey" last night, LOL.

I'm sorry to hear that some of you are still having such pain. What do your Drs say about this?

I've heard many talk about the stitch but my doc didn't mention it. My big incision was to the right of my belly button. My intense pain was where they put the port through the muscle and pull the stomach out. They then stitch the muscle back together. Every time I got up and down, I just had a ripping burning pain. Doc agreed my terrible pain was definitely the muscle.

  6. Hello all, still in hospital, may be out Tuesday prayerfully! I have a question plz, I started on Water yesterday n crystal lite n boost today. Part of y I'm still here are due to spasms. Question did or does it hurt u guys when trying to swallow fluids. I hope I'm not going to end up w a stenosis, God.forbid. it hurts in my middle chest on the way down, ne1 experience this? Thx in advance my friends.

Hi Deez! Glad to sew you are progressing! When I was first swallowing things, it didn't hurt but I could definitely feel it all the way down the middle and feel the burps crawl all the way back up! It's also been so long since you've had anything to drink at all, might take just a little notre time to be regular again. Have they tried anything warm yet to see if that is any easier?

    Continued positive thoughts your way!

  7. ---

Atlanta yes I understand I have to continue the s.s. I did Not have any Constipation while on pain meds, dilaudid in hospital then roxicet for a week. i just had diarrhea for a few days and extreme fatigue for a while

I Am on a ppi 2x a day and a pink carafate solution 3x a day that coats my stomach for ease with sipping due to major crying Induced hernia pain, pulsing and pressure -- it helps a little but my PA says the constipation is not from those rx's it's from Insufficient fluids

Thanks for your support, my family thinks I need to toughen up.

You're welcome. My husband is very regular and we don't usually discuss those kinds of things but the day after I was finally able to go, he had it too! He was miserable even after it passed! I guess your fam needs a little taste of what you're going through! Hang in there!

  8. I have some pain meds and they dull the pain but don't even come close to resolving it. I am 31And even at 320 pounds was relatively active. I live alone in a three story town home and I've had to resort to calling my mom to come over and do things for me. She is very willing and loves to help but I feel like a invalid and am so frustrated. I can't do laundry, load the dishwasher, pick up things from the floor, and it takes me almost 5 minutes to put in socks because of the bending. I'm just sad and frustrated.

It won't last forever, accept the help! Hang in there!

  9. Hi all! I am 19 days out and was doing really great until last weekend. I was picking up all the dog toys off my living room floor and began to get sore in my lower left abdomen area just below the tethering stitch. Ever since then I have had significant pain if I move the wrong way, sitting especially. I can no longer bend over, sleep on my sides, or do ANYTHING quickly. I am frustrated because I was feeling so good and I feel like I set myself back. I called the doc and they said I did too much and this is a normal side effect that can happen. But now it's been a week and it's not getting any better! I have a call into today after a horrible nights sleep with pain that brought tears to my eyes. I have no fever, am getting fluids and Protein in for the most part, and over all am feeling good. But this really hurts and really frustrates me. I'm hoping other might know what I'm talking about and be able to give me advice about how long it lasts or at least general support.

I'm sorry you're having a setback! I was overly cautious and still won't bend over or lift anything! (lucky I have an amazing husband). Do you have any pain meds or taking any Tylenol? I had horrible pain there that only stopped yesterday, and my surgery was the 13th. I'm sorry I don't have any words of wisdom for you but I hope you recover quickly and hopefully have something for pain.

  10. --

Thanks everyone for suggestions. Wow that's interesting AtlantaRed. I'll see how it goes but I'm afraid of what they may have to do to my bum in the ER. I guess I have to get passed that if it means long lasting relief and my way back to normal living. I have to get back to work but am in no condition to return at this point with minimal Fluid intake, Constipation, hernia discomfort, fatigue/lightheaded-ness, etc

So not looking forward to anymore pushing but I realize I'll have to with a foot stool now of course

Tmi but It really is like an intense workout minus the euphoric feeling

It is definitely not easy, and pretty exhausting when it's over. When it is over, please continue on daily stool softeners and something like Miralax. Are you still on pain meds? They are very constipating.

    Hope it passes soon!

  11. ----

    Hi Care1175:

Thank you for your concern and I did fear I would have to make another visit to the ER .. I was there almost 2 weeks ago for dehydration

After trying the magnesium citrate per my PA and increasing fluids and walking around things seem To be moving for me a tiny bit better --- still painful to push it out and there is still more inside that needs to come out but I would say I'm getting a bit better and not worse so I'll hold off on the ER and pray I won't need to go

My belly was a bit bloated but I attributed that to the increase in fluids my doc office is forcing me to get in to combat the Constipation

I'll see how things go but boy oh boy constipation is very very serious; wouldn't wish it on anyone

    Hi Sandi,

You may also try milk of magnesia. I never have constipation but did after coming home from the hospital even though I immediately started MiraLAX and colace. I had to take the milk of magnesia. Unfortunately, what's already there is not going to soften. It really is going to be a lot of work to get it out and probably not easy. Be careful thinking it's moving because a little is coming out. Sometimes the stool softener soften what's behind the constipation and that can squeeze out around the blocked stool. Some people find putting their feet up on a foot stool while sitting on the toilet, a better position (sort of like squatting).

Please be careful and don't be afraid to go to the ER if necessary.

  12. I was sleeved last Tuesday (4 days ago). I have two problems right now: a painful burn-like rash on my chest (not where the tape or incisions are) and a heck of a lot of gas.

I suspect the rash was from when they put the sterilizing solution on - the rash is where there are folds of skin. Doc office told me to use hydrocortisone cream and it seems to help.

I'm doing lots of walking )which helps with the gas), but when I sit down to drink something, the gas acts up. How long will this continue?

Hi Meg, if the rash doesn't seem go go away with the hydrocortisone, try yeast infection cream. I sometimes, esp in the summer, would get yeast rashes in some folds of skin. I buy the generic 7 day yeast kit in the feminine product aisle as it has the biggest tube of cream in it.

  13. Ugh..why am I putting food in my mouth. .chewing it then spitting it out..I really need to pull it together .. took my kids to cici's pizza..got some soup..which was ok..but then saw my kids food...I just couldn't help it.. :( I know it would get stuck if I swallowed ...I know this could be very bad if I continue to do this.

Shrug it off and don't do it again! Maybe try to steer clear of those places. I know it would be hard for me not to get some Cici's buffalo chicken pizza!

You know what all that stuff tastes like and one day, you can have it again!

Are you on any type of foods yet? If not, then I would fill up on a Protein Shake before taking the kids to get their food.

    You can do this!

  14. Hello my family:). Just wanted to update: I'm still n hospital, I feel rather well but these esophageal spasms are still givin me issues. As I said the second swallow test was.basically inconclusive but the surgeon said it looked good enuff for him, however; until I'm 24 hrs spasm free, he still won't let me eat or drink:( so today is day 4, npo. Then he said, we just have to b patient bc it will improve, so I have to stay here until Monday mornin:( my 9 yr old is alredy upset when she has to lv me nd she doesn't evn know about Monday yet. Catheter n heart monitor removed so that's good. I thank God that I'm not evn hungry or head hungry, I'm just rdy to get up n moving forward in a positive way. I've been reading about how u all are and praying every night for yall. Take care and hopefully I'll have bttr news for yall. XOXO my friends keep up the awesomeness of ur journeys, I'm proud of you all!!!!

Hi Deez! I hope your spasms have slowed down! I'm sorry you're stuck in the hospital, but I tell you, I wish I could have stayed more than one night! I know you have a family to get back to, though! Glad the cath and heart monitor are removed. Are you able to get up and walk around? I slept pretty well but did find myself getting up to use the restroom about every hour due to the IVs.

Thankful you're not experiencing any hunger (in your head or tummy!) as I'm sure that would be even more difficult!

Hopefully by the time you get home, you won't even need any pain meds! You'll be so far along by then!

Continue being your usual positive self! So many people pulling for you on this side!

  15. I was sleeved on December 20th. I've been home since the 23rd and am getting my strength back more and more every day. I've lost a total of 30lbs since I started the pre-op liquid diet; 17 lbs since I was sleeved and a total of 67lbs since I began this journey. So excited to finally be on this side of being sleeved and can't wait to see what my future holds in store for me.

Question: is anyone else having a hard time getting all their protien and a total of 64 oz Fluid in every day? (I know the shakes count as some of the required fluids but I can't get anywhere near 64 oz of anything in in a day) I was excited today for the sad fact that I was able to drink an entire protien shake (only took 6 hours to drink one 14oz shake, ugh) but after geting that down I don't have room for Water or crystal light. Is this normal this early in my journey? Also, I have a TON of food allergies and have unfortunately figured out that I'm allergic to the powdered protien mixes so I can't mix unflavored protien into my water/crystal light. Any ideas?

Sorry you are having a hard time with your Protein. How much longer until you can have soft foods?

Have you tried any of the ready to drink Isopure drinks? I've heard you can buy them at GNC to try the flavors before buying bigger packs online. Maybe thinner drinks like that would help?

I know you said you can't have powders, but I know when I switched from ready to drink Premier Protein drinks to Unjury chocolate powder, the unjury are much thinner and I was able to drink it pretty quickly.

Hang in there and keep sipping! I'm 7 days ahead of you and can drink water easily but I still only get 48 ounces in. It's a full time job!

I was sleeved on dec12 and still struggling to get in minimum 50g Protein and 48oz water per my NUT

On a good day I'm probably getting in around 300 calories -- 30g protein and 32 oz water

Incredibly weak these days too; lost about 25lbs in 3 weeks since surgery

Didn't think 3 weeks out would look like this but it should get better

I had hiatal hernia repair same time so I believe that is my greatest challenge ... I actually broke down and cried while on the phone with my NUT the other day; it hurt so bad to sip anything

Im doing a bit better with sipping now due to the carafate solution my surgeon prescribed me but still not easy -- I'm thankful for the tiny progressions

    Best wishes to you!!

I hope you continue to feel better each day, Sandi. I have heard many say that the additional hiatal hernia repair was more painful. Are you able to get any liquid vitamins in to help with weakness? What about some Gatorade type of drink mixed with your water? I did that the first week as I was afraid of becoming dehydraded. Have you tried any of the Isopure drinks? Or the Unjury chicken broth? I mixed some Better Than Bouillon chicken paste into the Unjury chicken and it was good. Maybe having something warm might be easier?

    Hang in there!!

  17. Hey Everyone,

Happy New Year!! I am hoping everyone will have an incredible 2014!

I'm a little stressed out myself (does not negate that 2014 is going to be incredible!). I will be seeing my surgeon tomorrow and my primary care doctor on Monday and will be talking to them about some of this stuff but I do want to post here to see if anyone else is experiencing what I am.

So I have been dehydrated. I'm not experiencing dizziness but my skin feels like a reptile and my urine is pretty dark. I'm at about 50 ozs of Water a day which helps somewhat with the color of my urine. However, I feel like something is wrong with my body. Something feels off. For the last two days I've had some sensation in my lower back which could be due to the dehydration. I'm not sure. In any case, I am anxious about it.

My second issue is I've been getting acid reflux pretty badly. Sometimes I can't even sip my water. I started taking antacid otc med about three days ago to combat it somewhat. Without it, I wouldn't even be able to eat the little I am eating. It is annoying and I'm praying that it doesn't last for a long time.

Is anyone else having similar experiences? I absolutely DO NOT regret the surgery at all. I know the body is a very mercurial thing and issues arise. But it's nice to not be alone.

    Again, Happy New Year Everybody

    Robin

I have the really dry skin too, but also think it has some to do with it being winter plus the release of water weight in the beginning.

Depending on your back pain, it could be kidney pain from dehydration. I was really worried about dehydration the first week so I did half gatorade and half water for the first week.

Glad you will be seeing your doctors to stay on top of everything!

  18. Happy New Years to all my December sleevers!!!!!!!!!

    Here's my confession...I cheated yesterday and had a Lindt Milk Chocolate! I'm craving carbs. Help! Is anyone else struggling maintaing Stage 2 full liquids? I was sleeved 12/11. :{

Try not to give in to the carbs. They only make you want more. We only have a year, give or take, to maximize our success with this opportunity. You've had as lifetime of chocolate. You know what it tastes like. You can have a taste again after you reach goal, but even then it will be a slippery slope. Hang in there!

  19. Great to find so many others with December surgeries! I had my sleeve surgery on 12/3/13 and I am working on my journey. I am 55, 5'6" tall and started at 243lbs. I lost 15lbs on the liquid diet before the surgery and 15lbs in the 4 weeks since surgery. I am happy with the decision and happy with the sleeve, but after reading some of the posts here, I am disappointed I have not lost more weight.

I would love to know how to get the graphic at the bottom of posts that show my progress. How do I create that?

    Welcome to the group mooncat!

You are doing great! Please don't compare yourself to others, we are all so different! We have different physical stats, food and exercise programs, some had preop and some didn't. Plus our bodies are just different. However, we have all been given the same tool. Fast or slow, as ling as its moving in the right direction! Mine hasn't been moving at all! I'm definitely stalled but it has to move at some point!

To get a ticker (the thing at the bottom) I think you have to be on a desktop and then you click up on your profile up on the top right and hit my tickets. It will walk you through how to create one.

  20. Question: Does anyone count there calories? If so how? Because I know that I never eat all of anything. From Jello, to apple sauce, pudding, refried Beans, anything!!

Yes, I count everything i eat. I use My Fitness Pal. There is a huge database of most foods but you can also create your own foods by listing the ingredients you use and you can adjust how much you had. So, applesauce is usually a 4 ounce serving. If you only eat half, you would change the serving to 0.5 for half. I also bought a food scale and I measure out all of my food. On My Fitness Pal, you can also use your smartphone to scan the barcode of any food label and it will automatically load the numbers for you!

    Hope that helps!
