    February 2007 bandsters!

Well I'm due to enter Bandland tomorrow and all of a sudden it seems real. I haven't had to do a pre-op diet so dinner tonight was my last supper!!lol!! I suppose it should have been something more exciting than fish fingers (fish sticks to everyone in the US) but I love them. From tomorrow I have four weeks of a liquid diet. Guess I'm on my way!

Banded on Thursday and cried yesterday

I don't think it's anything to worry about but if you need reassurance just call the hospital and put your mind at rest.

Banded on Thursday and cried yesterday

Anaesthesia can have weird effects. Last year when I had an umbilical hernia repaired under a general anaesthetic I ended up crying for two weeks convinced I was in love with my anaesthetist and I've been happily married for 11 years. Any operation is a huge shock to your body. Just take it easy and be kind to yourself.

vjolly. I've been told that my port will be on my left hand side just below my ribs. Every doctor does it differently. As for your post op experience no two people are the same. Everyone heals differently; just listen to what your body is telling you and take it easy. You'll be down the mall in no time!

Don't worry about the tofu. My surgeon doesn't even do the pre-op diet as he says in his experience it doesn't make any difference to the success of the surgery. He's tried it with and without. However I would advocate following your doctors advice if you can if only so you don't have to lie when you see him next

Thanks Melissa. I was getting kind of stressed about it. Not long to go now I guess before I find out myself!

    February 2007 bandsters!

My surgery date now seems really close (next Tuesday). I haven't had to do a liquid pre-op diet but my consultant insists on a liquid diet for 4 weeks post-op to minimise the chances of slippage and to let the band settle down. I've got the next two weeks off work but will have to do two weeks of work on the liquid diet. I'm software engineer which requires a lot of brain power and I'm getting really worried about coping. Has anyone experienced concentration problems on the liquid diet?

    February 2007 bandsters!

I've been told by my surgeon that I don't need to do a pre-op diet at all. All I have to do is not eat a heavy meal the day before. I kind of wish I did need to do a pre-op diet because at the moment my eating isn't great. I'm not eating that much in volume just loads of simple carbs. It's almost as if my last supper is going to last three weeks.:hungry:

    February 2007 bandsters!

Hi Everyone, Great thread! I'm scheduled to be banded February 13th at the Bath Clinic in the UK. I am self paying but the fixed package covers me for all fills and monthly one to one meeting with a lovely dietician called Anne for two years. My surgeon is Mr Richard Krysztopik who has trained in Australia; the country of excellence as far as banding is concerned. I'm looking forward to getting know all you over the coming months!
  10. I am from the UK and have just been booked in for the operation on February 13th. My GP told me that most Primary Care Trusts within the NHS will only fund the operation if all other avenues of losing weight have been tried. This includes medication/dieticians etc and your BMI is 40+ or 35+ if you have weight related health problems. I wasn't prepared to have diet pills so I am paying for everything myself. I have an all inclusive BMI Healthcare package which includes everything; consultations, surgery, hospitals fees, all fills etc. For 2 years it costs £7,950. The aftercare is all important to the bands success and the quality of the aftercare on the NHS may not be that good. Hope that helps a little bit!
  11. I've finally made the decision to have a Lap Band and I seriously cannot wait. Like everyone here I need to lose over 100lbs and really feel that now is the time to do something serious. Unfortunately in the UK I have to pay for it myself but what's £8000 compared to regaining my health?? I'm planning have the surgery mid February (probably end up being Valentine's Day as my surgeon only performs Lap Banding on a Wednesday) and will be lurking on these boards from now on. I look forward to beginning this journey with you all!

I also weigh around 290 but I'm 5'10''. It's still horrendous though. Like you I am determined to do this; I just want to get healthy and be able to go out and have fun with my family. I'm really fed up of being a spectator in my life!

Welcome! I've only recently joined myself. I haven't been banded yet; surgery is due in February! Everyone seems really friendly here so I expect to be hanging around here a lot!
  14. Hi Becca, As I'm a private patient I will probably be able to choose my surgery date. February 14th is ideal for me because it means I will be around to look after my youngest daughter during her half term holiday so it looks like we will be banded on the same day! I'd like to lose 148lbs to get back to how I was in my early 20's but I will be healthy 28lbs above that. These boards are so great. Every other WLS board I've looked at all seem to be populated with people that have had the full gastric bypass; something I would never consider. I look forward to keeping in touch with you over the coming months. Feel free to email me directly if you'd like!
  15. Wow you've lost 72lbs since June!! It obviously works! I just can't wait to get going. Now the decision has been made I'm getting really impatient. I'm still really nervous; especially about the vomiting. I keep picturing myself throwing up over my desk at work and everyone thinking I'm pregnant!!lol!!
