    ....from the hubby

what a wonderful post! I can relate to this as well. My boyfriend and I have been together for 4 years and he tells me all the time that I'm happier now and how good I look. My self confidence has really been soaring and it makes for a better relationship!!
  2. Here I am...late! I weighed in at 225 on 10/15. No loss for me. This plateau is getting pretty frustrating. On a better note, I completed the 5k without stopping or walking and I have a 10 mile race this weekend that I have been training for.
  3. 5k done...now on to 10 miler on 10/22! Wish me luck!

  4. My insurance allows for me to visit the nutriionist 5 times a year. I think its very helpful. When I go, she looks at my eating over the past 3 or 4 days and gives me suggestions on how to change things in order to get the scale moving again. She also gives great suggestions on foods/combinations that would help me achieve it. I'm currently in the same boat with the scale not moving. I have started doing races and working out more so I think I need to adjust my nutritional needs. I have made an appointment and I'm looking forward to it. Don't get discouraged, it happens and it will pass. Good luck!
  5. Thank you so much for your advice on my blog post!

    Trucking on along

Here I am 10 months out from my surgery. I'm holding steady at 226lbs. Can't seem to break that for some reason. I have been working out more and I can't say that I have been following the rules to the letter about eating. I had an appointment this morning and decided to get another fill. I'm at 6.5ccs in a 10cc band now. My concern is being overfilled. I'm scared to death of that happening. I'm close to my green zone, but I can tell I'm not really there. I judge my hunger level after eating (how many hours before I'm hungry again) I was pretty sure I needed a little more. Hopefully this fill will put me square in the zone! I would really like to be 199 or less on 12/31/2011. There are so many good things happening with every pound I shed. I have a 5k race coming up this Saturday. I have a 10 mile race on 10/22. And I'm doing a turkey trot (race thanksgiving morning) I've found a new passion with running! I'm thinking I need to adjust my nutrional needs to my new regimen. I will see what happens with this fill and if no change I will discuss my options with my nutritionist. Also, I'm in a size 14! Not tight...fitting just right! Some are loose, so here I come size 12!! 65lbs lost and confidence gained!! Good luck everyone!

    Another Step toward Success!

Glad everything went well for you. *hugs*
  10. Hello all...I too have been guilty of not posting here very much. I usually just sign on and lurk for a few minutes. I also have been stalled for about 3 weeks now. Still at 226! I'm in a size 14 pants and large shirt so I'm happy! I have started running also. I'm doing a 5k Friday, a 10 miler on 10/22 and a turkey trot 8k Thanksgiving Day. I'm really loving it! I still go to the gym for step and strength training when I'm not running outside. I would love to be 199 on New Years Eve...we'll see. I have less than 3 months to lose 27lbs. The good thing is I feel great, I like the sexy woman that stares back at me in the mirror and I have found confidence that I never knew existed. I have way more successes than the numbers on that evil scale!! Sorry to hear about your band slipping Joan. Please keep us updated on your surgery 12/8. Eventhough alot of us are complaining about the scale stalls, we have done a great job! *standing ovation*
  11. I did continue to smoke after I had surgery eventhough I told my doctor I would quit. I agree it's hard. I did try, but it became overwhelming with everything else I had to focus on post op. I figured once I got the groove of being banded, I would quit...and I did. I smoked my last one on 8/17. I didnt do it cold turkey, I had help with Chantix. I don't even have the desire to smoke or even smell it. I recommend it to anyone trying to quit. Good luck!
  12. On and off for a couple years, but steady since July. My goal is to run the 5k without walking. It's amazing how our bodies adapt to whatever we do.

How do you deal with negative people?

I totally agree with this post. Most are jealous because they wish they could afford/qualify for the surgery. Then there are ones that look at it as as an easy way out. They have no idea what we go through. I would just keep doing what youre doing and let them hate!

my dream was so close and now looks as though

Arnetta, Try calling the hospital and talking with someone in the finacial dept (maybe a supervisor) and ask them if they can put you on a payment plan. It's not like they aren't getting ANY money for the surgery. I ran into the same issue before my sugery. They were more than happy to work with me. I feel that they understand that everyone just doesnt have 2 grand readily available. Good luck to you...don't give up!

    The Harvest Moon Challenge

Good morning! I'm checking in at 226 this week. No change from last week.
  17. Good morning fellow bandsters!! I had surgery 12/9/10 and I'm doing well. As you can see from my ticker, I'm over halfway to my goal. It feels great! I'm registered to run a 5k next month. I would have never thought a year ago that I would be doing this. I have been training for it and I can easily run the entire thing nnow. Before, going to the mailbox was hard. I think alot of times we focus solely on the numbers on the scale instead of the other great things happening on this journey. Things like losing inches, eating less, getting more active, eating healthier and just having a different mindset about our health. And as some of know....it has to start in the mind before the body follows. For those just starting out or only a few months post op...hang in there. I was discouraged too. The scale wasn't moving fast enough, I thought that I would just start dropping weight after surgery and continue until I got to goal. That didn't happen. I thought that the band would just stop me from eating. That didn't happen. I was discouraged because I wanted bigger fills and my doc was only doing small amounts at a time. Now in hindsight, I'm glad that they were small amounts because it gave me time to wrap my head around the lifestyle changes I needed to make. For the new bandsters or the ones struggling, keep your appointments, schedule nutrition visits, join a support group. I truly believe that post op care is critical. Sorry this is so long, but I wanted to share this with everyone. Good luck!!

Ok wow some seriously bitter people on here!!

I kinda understand what Shirley was saying. What you have to understand is to take things with a grain of salt. For the most part everyone here is supportive and encouraging. Some feel that we need a swift kick to get on track and get our mind right. Just focus on the postive posts and the good advice you were given and let the rest roll off your back. I understand how you are feeling about where you are right now. I was there too. I often wondered if I had done the right thing because the scale wasn't moving. I was very discouraged. During the initial phases post op I wasn't eating, I was only doing liquids. Once I got to real food and started working out, I started losing weight. Sounds crazy right? It's true. Another thing I had to realize is that they put a band around my stomach, not my mouth. I could eat anything I wanted. I had to wrap my mind around the fact that in order for this to work, I had to work it.You can do it too Bandit. Hang in there....you are going to be just fine!

    9 months post op

Before surgery, I didn't really need anything besides a variety of liquids for the diet. Surgery day I found that a pillow was helpful for the ride home. It helped cushion the area between my stomach and the seatbelt. Good luck to you!!
