I am almost 28 years old and have been overweight for as long as I can remember. My entire family is overweight. And I have a family history of diabetes on both sides of my family. Diabetes is not an if, it is a when if I do not get control of my weight. And that has really motivated me to start taking care of myself.

I have an aunt, uncle and a cousin who have all had bariatric sugery and my sister is right behind me in her quest for the Lap Band procedure. I have completed my 6 month diet, received approval from my insurance company, and medical clearance from my PCP. My surgery is scheduled for December 29 and I am thrilled, excited and nervous about the physical and psychological effects of the procedure. I am not sure what I will do to fill the huge hole that food has filled for all my teen and adult life. But I am ready to start the journey and get healthier.
