  1. I am told to get in 60-74 grams of protein and at least 64 oz of fluids. So it sounds like you are making the amounts you need to and taking meds. I had surgery done November 2, 2010 and I am feeling really well. I have stayed off the RX pain meds and tylenol for two days. I find when I am on it I over do it. So I am struggling a little but okay. Up, walking around, the gas is a lot less and just doing things like walking a certain distance, I get a little tired quicker. I had only one incision in my belly button and a small slice up under my left breast, neither are too sore. I am achey if anything and sometimes feel like burning in the muscle. It is healing so I am trying to ignore it. When I first wake up is the hardest with the pain, after that I am okay. Oh and having to use the bathroom is a trick sometimes too. LOL As far as protein I am getting 64-72 depending on the day and then fluids I am usually in the 70s. Taking my meds every day and literally drinking something all day long. Hope you are feeling better today.
  2. Sophie you are the day after me so good for you to eat something other then protein shakes. I have to drink 60-74 grams of protein a day. So I have three, 11oz, myloplex 20gram shakes. Tell you what, I am sick and tired of them. DONE! Looking for other recipes and I bought a bunch of Bariwise and WonderSlim drinks. I haven't tried them all. One I got was hot cocoa and that was okay. The strawberry was delish. I can start mushy foods in a few days, around the 7th day I guess. Sometimes 14 days, just depends on healing. I keep thinking I am hungry but it is probably just because of gas. LOL
  3. I found a site but I am hesitant to use it as it doesn't give sugar and calorie break down. 101 Protein Shake Recipes | Fat Loss School
  4. My post op diet liquid diet is only one to two weeks. I don't technically have that much longer if on day 7 I want to try to add some mushy. I just need to get through three more days and I am having a very hard time. I got the family a rotissarie chicken and ended up taking a tiny sliver, I mean tiny, chewed it to nothing and swallowed it down with water. Just for the taste of something other then chocolate, strawberry or berry. I never thought I would ever be sick of those flavors. LOL Once this is done I am sure I will not eat chocolate for a few months. Which is good because you are not supposed to. LOL
  5. It depends on your insurances opinion. I have PCOS, Hypothyroidism and that is it. I qualified. Your best bet would be to call the insurance company and ask. Wish you luck
  6. Oh hon I haven't lost any weight in the first week. It is not always to be expected. There are a couple of things that could be happening. If you did not exercise before you can be putting on muscle, which always weighs more than fat so that may be 2lbs in muscle gain and 1lb in fat loss. Also, if you didn't move your bowels before you stepped on the scale you could have gained. There is also always the off chance that the scale was moved from one place to another in the house, can alter your readings. Your band is not filled yet therefore you do not have a true restriction yet. Don't get discouraged, be patient and before you know it the weight is going to fly off. First week in, well 5 days and I have not lost any weight at all, but I know I am still healing and sore. One day at a time. Relax, you will get there. LOTS OF HUGS (gentle cause my belly is still sore) to you.
  7. Okay I am now 3 days post op, banded in the am on the 2nd so it has been 4 days all together. I have not had pain meds for nearly 18 hours now. I am feeling so fatiqued and still very gassy. No matter how much I walk, but I remember the last time I had a surgery like this it took me a 5 or six days to feel better. My scale says I put on weight which I am imagining is still bloating and Water weight. I have not caught up yet with everything. I am following the liquid diet and calories, Protein, etc. I have been eating between 60-75 grams of protein a day and my Fluid intake is around 70oz. So what is it? Why is it I am so tired and despite being gassy I am hungry. I keep drinking but then it makes me more gassy. I think it is that when I feel gassy I used to put carbs to ease the gas so I am thinking I am hungry and maybe I am not really truly hungry. Does that make sense? I am doing well and my hubby is proud of me. I took my daughter out to Friendlies to eat and didn't even steal a bite of her ice cream! LOL They wouldn't just give me broth from the chicken Soup so decided to avoid the temptation. Any advice? Is this fatique normal? I wonder when I can start adding mushy foods? I know I have to heal so waiting on that process. For now me and my blankies are going to go night night. Looking forward to advice, answers, opinions. Ouuu and today I got out of the house, it stopped raining for a while and that was a trick and a half. I was tired after walking but a good tired. I got a pair of new sneakers for the gym.

    The worst timing!

I worked for CIGNA, I am not going to bash them or anything. However, as a person who had to quote benefits, sometimes things are not just cut and dry in the benefits screen. So as long as your HR confirmed that it was written into the benefits as a covered item, then you shall be fine. We had that problem, poor lady had cancer and we were denying her claims and when I talked to the HR department they said they were supposed to be covered. It took me 3 months and a lot of fighting with higher ups but I got her claims covered and the HR decided to stay with CIGNA because they were going to change insurance companies because of the problem. Keep your head up and your procedure will be here before you know it!

    Psych eval

Good luck with the Psych Consult. The idea of the consult is to make sure you are fully aware of the procedure, the risks, that you have studied your options. They also want to make sure that if there is a history of depression you recognize it and have control. That you are self aware as to how you have gained the weight, if you are Obsessive Compulsive about eating. If you do have an eating disorder they just suggest working with a therapist as you move forward towards banding so you can gain control of the disorder, otherwise banding won't help. I hope this helps and you will do great. Just be honest, they are trained to tell when you are lying.
  12. Especially the liquid portion of the diet. It is important to share what it is I am taking in, if I can stomach it and so that others might find comfort in foods that are good or bad. That they can try as alternative proteins. First is Myoplex Lite, 20g of protein in 11oz of fluid, drinking 3 of theses is half of my fluid intake. It is okay but gets monotonous. It isn't gritty or too thick so goes down well. I try to drink this three times a day but that might not happen today. Need to switch it out. Wonder Slim (Bariatricchoice.com) Strawberry shake, can also be made into pudding, I believe it is 15 grams of protein, so that is good. It takes like Nestle strawberry mix. A tiny bit gritty so maybe next time I need colder water and to let it sit a bit. Bariwise HotCocoa with Marshmallows (Bariatricchoice.com) This doesn't taste exactly like hot cocoa, but it fills the sweet void and covers for something different to drink. I believe it is 10-15 grams of protein. Well with in the sugar and calorie allowance for drinks. YAH I have more drinks to taste, I have also been cooking up chicken bullion or similar items, soup broth and eating that. 5 grams of protein and just a different flavor. Nice and easy to go down. Right now I am craving salty things so trying to behave and not cheat. Last night I did suck on a piece of cheese from the Pizza my son got. I spit out the cheese and did not even put the crust in my mouth. Just for the flavor. I was satisfied with that. I know the liquid diet is to heal the stomach but I know I can get some mushy foods in there. LOL
  13. It's only been three days and I already want foods. I was told I had to wait at least seven days. Surgery was on Tuesday, so making Friday only really 3 full days. I understand the liquid diet is for healing, but man I just want a piece of chicken. Actually of all the things I am craving, it's chicken and spinach. Go figure....
  14. How are you feeling today? Hope you are better!

Day 3 and the start of Day 4

I only had pain meds three times yesterday. Once when I woke up at like 3 am and slept on the wrong side. Once in the afternoon and just before bed. I feel pretty good today and am not taking any pain meds. I am going to try to get up, shower and go get myself some new sneakers for the gym, and maybe get my hubby to buy me some new work out clothes. he he Other then that, I am a little sore today, nothing more then when my trainer one time pushed me to the point of nearly tears. I had to take advil for three days just to go to work. LOL So it isn't any worse than that. I am feeling, overall, really good. Just hungry. I am getting my protein in and sharing the wealth by making my hubby try everything I am drinking. My doctor said if I want to start mushy foods seven days out that I could start that, I will of course call him first. Looking forward to the last of the gas to be gone soon. Don't think I have lost any weight yet, but I am not in a rush. I just want to get through the post op gas crap and then move forward to the eating better foods and exercising part!
  16. Thanks, I have had way above the required fluids so I know its not that. Horrible weather here, lots of rain and blech. My sinuses are stuffy too so I am sure it is just a weather/sinus thing.
  17. Can I take like childrens tylenol for my headache, I have now had it for the second day. It isn't severe but I do get migraines and I am not wanting this to escelate. Does anyone know if it is okay to take liquid childrens tylenol? I am not taking pain meds, last dose was last night at 11:30pm and it is every four hours but don't feel I need it.

    My hair....

I was told that what happens is when your body is stressed it can loose hair also. So besides the surgery which was a huge stress on your body, has there been any other stresses in your life? If not I am at loss.
  21. Hello banding day buddy, how are you feeling? I am still gassy this friday but other then that, feeling pretty good. Not sure I will even need pain meds today.
  22. Did they check your cortisol levels? If you are under a lot of stress your cortisol levels can drop and cause fatique. I had that happen just before surgery because my mom was in the ICU. So keep that in mind. Might be another test to do if they didn't already. I too have Hypothyroidism so know that is going to be an on going battle.

    Turned away for cheating

I know my doctor will not do the surgery if he goes in and the liver has not shrunk a significant amount. If there is a danger to your life because your liver is too large, they will not operate. That being said, I was on a meat and veggie pre op diet. I had two or three chips and a few bites of bread. I did not eat an entire roll or anything. I was cautious and did things for tastes. One night I forgot and was out with the kids and ordered soda. I started drinking it and munching on fries with them and was like, "oops," I tossed the soda and made a mental note not to do that again. Remember the pre op diet is for your safety just as much as to kick start the weight loss.

    Day 2 Wednesday, the challenges

I came across some challenges today. It was an interesting I wasn't expecting some of the challenges. One was in the afternoon I kept falling asleep. I took an nap and was fine, woke up at 5 and then fell asleep again at midnight. I first laid down on my left side, then woke up to pee and thought I would try to sleep on my right side. HUGE mistake! My port site was so sore I couldn't move at 5am this morning. My husband helped me get up and walk it out. I then propped myself up with pillows and slept on my back until 8:30. I was making my son Popcorn with butter last night and I wanted to take a bite. I always eat a few pieces and give him the rest. I was thinking how good it smells and then thought of eating it and how awful it would be. A few muscle spasms this morning, took my Levothyroxine and now I am resting. My daughter keeps wanting me to pick her up. The doctor said no lifting 10lbs for two weeks. I am doing my best. My incision is leaking a bit. NOt sure if this is normal. I am going to take a shower and then dry the incision site. Still gassy and hoping that goes away soon. Right now I am glad I live and take care of my disabled father because the handlebars around the toliet have been so helpful and I think that the shower chair will be nice. Feeling okay, a little painful, trying to get one bottle of water down and I can't eat for an hour after my levothyroxine so then I will try to get some protein down.
