I had the same thoughts. I think it is probably normal. I even had my family say why don't you just diet and exercise? Fear of the unknown. But if you will search in your mind and remember all the diets you have been on and how successful you weren't and how frustrating it was to swallow another feeling of failure I think you will realize that this is our hope of being normal and healthy. I too finished my six months and they just sent everything into the insurance I was approved less than 24 hours. I believe God has worked everything out for me to have this surgery because otherwise I don't have much quality of life ahead of me. The doctor has already told me that the weight is going to kill me. You need to do some soul searching and be very sure when you do this because this is only a tool a friend to be there with you while you make life changes in your eating patterns. You have to decide are you going to live to eat or eat to live. Good Luck in your decision.

Hiya hun, i know exactly how you feel, I was at the same point as you two years ago and I went away and tried yet again to lose it on my own and those two years flew by, I am back here now even more miserable and desperate than before and still have that nagging doubt, 'do i really need to take such a drastic approach, surely there is a more natural way of doing it!' but the thing is, i have been trying for over 13 years and have exhausted all avenues, what else can I do now? I either live in misery for the rest of my life or try and do something about. katie xx

Hi,

I have been struggling all my life time also........ I was determined since I made the personal mission to take control of my life again. The lap band is a tool........and helps me to have much greater positive moments for me. I was band 9/11/08 and is a great relief to do and work with the Dr. and dietican seeing my dicission was so right. It is a tool of this generation......

I have friends this has helped . Go to an info meeting and listen to the ones who have had it done. You will smile for sure when leaving a meet. Good luck. Mary

Funny, I just had this conversation with some one else the other day. I had the same problem. There's a little voice that keeps telling you to do it on your own.

Well, here's the facts. You are doing it on your own. The band is a tool to help you, you still have to watch what you eat, exercise, drink water etc. You don't just get the band and 'poof' you're thin. Get the band because it is a great tool to help you lose weight. How many diet products have you tried? How many more will you continue to use if you don't get the band. Why not get something that is proven to help with your commitment?

My dad died of a heart attack from being obese at 47 years old. I'm 47 now. I wasn't willing to wait to see if it happened to me too... are you?

I feel the same way. I've been overweight since the 3rd grade. I'm a grandma now and ready to do something positive. I keep thinking it's drastic, but what I'm doing now certainly isn't working. I have a consultation next month.
