Exercise Goals

As I was going through my six month process to prepare for surgery, I had to take a fitness test and meet with a trainer. The trainer went over ideal exercise routines. He told me that I should be exercising 6 days a week for at least 1 1/2 hours each session. Of course I will need to work up to this point, right now I'm walking 4-5 days a week for 45 minutes each session and it's hard to stay motivated. When I come home from work all I want to do is curl up in my bed and watch tv. Old habits die hard. I'm really bored with walking and I'm thinking about taking a spin class or a Zumba class. I really miss water aerobics but it's so cold where I live so that will have to wait until the spring. I've really been pushing myself to stay committed to exercising and it feels great.

What are you doing to meet the exercise requirements and how are you staying motivated?

I joined the YMCA. I'm not a "class" type of person. I like to go in, do my work out and leave. I am the whitest white girl you've ever met - meaning I cannot dance, so I don't do Zumba or any of the classes.

I normally walk a mile around the track, then I do 10 sets of 10 on most of the machines. I'm trying to concentrate on my abs, thighs and "bingo arm". Then I do 15-20 minutes on the stationary bike, then another mile or so on the track, then I treat myself to weighing in in the locker room before I go home. They have all kinds of classes, but again - I'm just not into any of it.

I can feel a HUGE difference in my body. This might be a little TMI, but my husband says that my body/sex has really changed since I started working out. That thigh master is amazing! ;)

Reading both of your posts is just what I needed! I am about 2 months pre-surgery and I've been making eating changes, but I've yet to start any exercise habits. I live in Chicago- so we just had our 50 degree heat wave this weekend, but it's dipping back down to 0 this week. I love walking at my local park, but that's pretty much out of the question. I am not into the gym thing, but I may have to start hitting them up just to get on the treadmill.

Great post- thanks.
