Pre-Op Liquid Diet Experiment

PGee

On Tuesday I start my official pre-op liquid diet. BUT as I said, I am doing a trial run for 3 days beforehand.....and, the first day went fine. Always the planner, I figured out how many hours they should be spread over, and made a schedule as a guide

The only thing I'm doing differently today is starting at an earlier hour.....I couldn't get all the shakes in yesterday because I didn't start until 8:30, which meant I had one every 2 hours......yikes! Who'd think you could get so full! So here I am at 6:30 a.m., sipping and typing LOL

And, to get out of the heat yesterday we went bowling (how fun).....and yes, I even walked into the bowling lanes with a shake.....A few hours later, we drove by a DQ.......hubby looked like a little kid....."Hey, you want ice cream?" I told him to go ahead because it was time for another shake anyway.....Neither of us have had DQ in years.............and when he got back to the car, he offered a lick off his cone......Luckily I don't like vanilla soft serve LOL........BUT I had to give him a hard time....."Seriously, you are offering me ice cream? [yes] Honey, if this was Tuesday, would you offer me ice cream then? [no]" He had his held down as if in shame, but looking at me with a gleam in his eyes and that boyish charm of his..........I just hope he was testing me...

I'm doing pretty well with the Pre-op liquid diet. Last night I started feeling hungry. I had a chicken bullion cube, mixed it with hot water and really enjoyed it. I didn't think I was going to like it. I just wanted something very low calorie that wasn't sweet. I was pleasantly surprised.

I am starting my liquid diet tomorrow and find I am really anxious about it. I feel like I spend more time focusing on food today than I ever did. Everyone keeps asking what I want for my last meal and it's driving me nuts!!! I feel like I am being sent to the executioner.....I have to keep remembering why I am doing this.

Amy, glad you're doing so well!

Mom2ris, I decided not to have a "last meal".....what did you end up having?

Good luck!

Just wondering...how many shakes do you have a day. My Pre-op will be 2 shakes and 1 small meal for 2 weeks.

Maggie, it will be 3 shakes and 2C of yogurt (which is an improvement from what the NUT said LOL) and all the clear SF liquids I can handle....

Believe it or not I had McDonald's. This is not what I had planned but we were out and I thought why not. It was McDonald's that got me here along with a million other bad choices.

I am surviving the liquid diet. I have my moments. It seems to bother others more than me. My preop consists of 6 shakes a day. I can have sf drinks, water and decaf tea/coffee. I can have one serving of sf jello per day but nothing else.

My family and coworkers think I am nuts. They don't understand why I want to subject myself to this. I ignore them. I can't believe what I have already subjected my body to.....

Thanks for letting me rant.

Rant away....Isn't it the truth what we've subjected our bodies to already...family/coworkers? bless their hearts, but they haven't walked a mile in your shoes.......surround yourself with positive people, even if it's on VST. I haven't told people, and at times I feel like the omission is lying, then I hear the comments one sister say to another, and I know it's the right decision for me.

I think the pre-op is a mindset....Today is day 2 of the official pre-op diet, and it's going good...I write down everything I've had, the time I ate it, and record the liquids......for 2 weeks, it's doable....at least that's what I tell myself LOL
