He does not understand.....

My nut wanted me to go ahead and start using protein shakes now to get use to it. My husband and I made one and shared it this evening. He said boy would not be bad with some sugar.....I just looked at him in disbelief and said I can not have it with sugar. O he says well get some vanilla and add some strawberries to it...I replied it will be a while after surgery before I can have starberries again. He is supportive, but he has no idea.

Heh, sounds like he doesnt understand what NO SUGAR means. I don't know if your husband has a weight problem or not but I find that my husband doesn't understand some of my rules and doesnt always "get it" because he was never as heavy as I was.

Maybe you could take him with you to your nut appointments?

I started protein shakes and liked them... there are lots of low carb options out there that taste good! Like SlimFast's low carb version, or even Muscle Milk Vanilla flavor ( I like it with water instead of milk cause then it becomes too sweet and rich ). And you can add a spoon of peanut butter to it or half a banana a week out of surgery. Post op, I did a lot of Muscle Milk strawberry flavor, premixed individual cartons - those were great! Give some of those a try!

Take him to your classes with you. My husband was supportive but didn't understand a lot in the beginning. He went to all of my classes and appointments with me. I am two months post op and I think he knows or remembers more than me. He is there to help me make sure I don't eat any faster than 20 minutes, remind me not to use that straw that the waitress just gave me, etc. Knowledge helps.

I never buy sugar and when my skinny boyfriend asks for sugar, I just hand him the Splenda and he can't even tell the difference. If he thinks it would be good with sugar, just hand him the Splenda.

I wish I could take him to classes with me. He can not get off of work to go :(
