one more night here...

The surgery yesterday evening went well, they were able to get the kidney stone out, so that's good. I'm still uncomfortable, and running a fever on and off due to the infection it caused. My blood pressure is kind of all over the place, one reading high- the next might be low- the next normal...so between that and the fever, they're keeping me one more night to make sure they get all the antibiotcs on board that they wanted to.

(P.S.- these liquid meds TASTE TERRIBLE! lol)

As much of a bummer as it is to have kindey stones, I really took a lot of comfort in knowing, I have no remaining issues from surgery. The pain I thought I was having b/c of it turned out to be kidney stone, so I'm completely healed and doing well with my sleeve itself.

I've also found now that the stone is out- and the pain is down, I'm much better at getting my fluids in- still working on the protein angle, but it's hard to fill that order at the hospital- I've been using muscle milk for now- just to get something in.

Thanks all for the support and well wishes the other day! :) Best of luck to the rest of you sleevers!

so glad you are feeling better! I have been following your story, as my doctor thinks that I probably have kidney stones. Fortunately, mine seem to be breaking up themselves right now (my main symptom is urine that looks like it has black pepper in it, plus some pain). The PA said they don't think the surgery precipitated this, but I did read that dehydration can precipitate kidney stones. I have been drinking a ton but it never feels like enough (even at 100 oz or more). Did your surgeon say whether they thought your stones were related to your surgery? Still glad I got it, but just curious. The worst is that they think mine are oxalate material so I need to limit beans, greens, soy protein, and black tea, which are a huge part of my diet since I'm vegetarian. The RD said hydration is more important than that though.

Sending you continued healing thoughts! Thank you for sharing your story.

The Dr said it's usually genetic or am underlying issue that causes them..but hydrating is a key to avoiding large stone buildup.

They doubt my surgery waa the cause of this stone he said by the looks if things my left kidney was completely blocked for around 7-10 days.

I've always been prone to them. This is must 2nd kidney stone surgery...might just be something I have to deal with for life :/

Thanks for the info, HockeyMa. My stones are dissolving right now (hence the teeny black pieces in my urine) but I'm paranoid bc my mom had bilateral oxalate stones this summer (I guess they are hereditary) and had to have an emergency lipsotripsy done. They would have tried to let them pass if it had just been one but having two, you can go into renal failure, as I'm sure you know. I'm glad your surgery is behind you and hope you heal well and quickly!

TES- how are you doing on your kidney stones?? I've got to go back and see my urologist in the next few weeks..I have yet to make an appt...sigh...I'm feeling much much better, they took the kidney stent out last Tuesday, for my 3rd and final surgery in as many weeks. I'm having a hard time hitting my 64oz of fluids now- I'm really worried with my history of kidney stones (had a 16mm a few years back they did lithotripsy on...) and then this one same situation, but was already out of the kidney so they had to go and get it manually....I don't want to deal with this for life- so I'm hoping to hear something promising at the next appt.

Hope all is well with you!

    • I’ve used my Xbox for exercise games too and it can be pretty motivating, especially on days when I don’t want to leave the house. Kinect games really do make you move, and after a session with kickboxing or dancing, I always feel like I’ve actually gotten a solid workout. The controller-free setup feels way more natural for workouts than anything I tried on the Wii. Zumba is fun but definitely takes a little time to get the moves right. Lately, when I’m not working out, I spend time trading CS2 skins and finding new guides on this link. There’s a lot of interesting tips if you’re into games outside of fitness too.
