Newly Sleeved, Questions !

Well, I am frustrated first of all, because I am on clears liquids and it is getting old fast. However, this morning when I got up my first few sips actually hurt once they hit my belly. Is this normal ? I am 4 days today post-op.

Why do the beverages ie: coffee and tea, need to be decaf?

Why do I need to avoid hot beverages?

I actually had belly growling as if I am hungry, is this normal ? It feels like the old hungry growl.

Help !!

I am pre-op, so I can't help too much... but I do understand that caffeine dehydrates. Dehydration causes us to retain water. With limited room in your tummy, you need to hydrate all you can. I remember from my 800 times in Weight Watchers that if you had caffeine, you had to double your water intake. I hope this helps. Also, I've read that some people consume warm or room temp water to start their tummies for the day, in comfort. Wishing you WELL!

Thanks, that helps and makes sense !! I do admit I had about 2 oz of coffee this morning at room temp.

How come they want us to walk but when it's difficult to get protein in you have no energy ?! Geesh

I don't know about the hot beverages, because even in the hospital I was drinking hot broths and teas. Just sip slowly and that should help.

Hopefully, you'll have some protein shakes soon and those taste wonderful when you get to take the next step. My doc had my eating "mushies" at two weeks (cottage cheese and scrambled eggs, etc.) and that tasted like heaven.

The liquid stage seemed like it took FOREVER to get through, but now is just a distant memory.

Hang in there -- you'll get past it soon!!
