Making a decision to have VSG......

Lizbeth

O.k. so I have decided after years of dieting and working out with little success to go ahead and make an appt. so try and get a referral for VSG. After much research and coversations I have decided this is my best option. Its not for the fact of looking better but for my long term health. I was diagnosed with PCOS earlier this year and high cholesterol. My parents history of heart disease, stroke and diabetes is nothing I want to fool with. This has been a hard decision for me as I didn't struggle with weight until about my mid 20's. So this is the start to my journey. I am a military spouse in the Columbus, Ga area though we live just across the border in Phenix City, Al. Any help through this journey would be great. Thanks and wish me luck......prayers welcome!

Gosh Heather - you are well on your way - having taken the first step....a decision. Unlike all of your previous weight loss experiences, this one will be different. You will research, gather stories, data, costs, benefits, and perhaps even a few nay-sayers will provide their opinion of taking "shortcuts" or "well I know someone who's gardener....blah blah blah..."

I say - poppycock!

Good for you! I'm going to be 57 in a few days and 2.5 weeks post op (Sep 2) I feel great - never had any pain beyond day 1 - a little soreness - and I am definately eating 500 - 600 calories a day - including my protein shakes. There is no way - I'm going to lose this weight .....and THEN GAIN IT BACK! That's what is different! I would have to work 10 times harder and feel terrible in order to gain weight. (If you take one bite too many - your chest hurts like you swallowed a big rock....for a few minutes until it either goes down or comes back. So far I have not pushed this limit as I can feel when I've reached my limit.

Say hello to my sis in Waynesboro GA - if you ever get that way! I just love the way she talks! Best of luck in your journey! Reb

Well I had my appt. with my pcm today and she said she would give me a refferal with no problem. O.k. next hurdle, I have to find a surgeon that I want to do my surgery. I need one near Atlanta, Ga. as there is none in my area (phenix city, al) so if anyone reads this and can help that would be awesome....so until then I will do lots of research!

Thanks so much.....Congrats on your surgery.....I hope I can get this approved and fast. It seems like once you make the decision it goes so slow. But my Dr. said she thinks I am a good candidate for this and thinks I shouldn't have any trouble getting it. Heres to hoping and praying. Thanks so much excited to hear about your progress!!!!!

YES! you are doing it for the right reasons. I myself told only 3 people and let them all believe they are the only ones I told. My surgery was on Tues 9.27.11 Feeling better every day. It is YOUR choice to tell people, I did not due to the response I got when I told my boss and her mouth flew open and she said WHY??? Frm then on I kept it tomyself with only me and hubby knowing about it. BEST decision I made. Also, red the forums, you will get very good advise, maybe even a DR in that area... do a search on the town, ask your PCP. Call your ins for a Dr referral. Just some hints.

You didn the hardest thing and that was making the fist step to get the ball rolling, it is all downhill from here/ it was like 8 weeks from the time I visited the Surgeon, to my surgery date, yes you will question yourself, like my Dr told me, if I did not I wuld not be normal. READ READ READ... this is a GREAT Support group.

Best of luck to you.... and you will be in my prayers.

So a small stall in my process. Tricare does not cover the surgery, however I can have it done at an MTF but the closest one is 4hrs away in Fort Gordon so my Dr. is getting things together to submit a referral for that hospital. Please keep me in your prayers everyone. I am hoping to get this approved and done before my husband deploys at the end of the year. Thanks....Hugs
