i am 10 days post op , sleeved 7-11-11, and feeling as though I can make this tool work for me. yesterday,,, was another story. I was feeling down and lingering for the bread and tortillas, that are off limits. physically i am not hungry but mentally i am famished. i was torturing myself with watching the food network, as though this was gonna help my "mind eating" go away--- didnt work. hopefully with this new site i will be able to talk to people who are feeling the same as i am-- so i wont feel so isolated. i hope to see the weight keep coming off. lost 20 lbs pre op and 8 lbs post op.

Melissa -

I just sent an email to SeattleSue asking how she was doing and if she suffered from mental food anguish.. (MFA) ha ha

OK - So I'm 41 days from sleeving and I still find myself buying a candy bar or a box of Mike & Ike...why? Don't know. Did you sort of enjoy many different "last suppers" where you thought I better get this in before I'm sleeved cause I won't be having it for some time!! I find myself thinking about PIZZA or Chinese food and should I go get some now and I better hurry. So far I haven't done that - but I think about it.

I only have to do three days liquid pre-op but I have to make sure I can do that and still travel. So this weekend is my trial - (a previous weekend I made the attempt but had company and by 5:00 pm I was grazing in the kitchen).

I have my Ninja to make smoothies now and I think the key for me will be making interesting shakes and getting all of my vitamins in. (I haven't been taking any).

I get on VST several times a day (3 or 4) and I will keep reading your posts to see how you are doing. You can do it! Reb

THANKS! AT THIS POINT I DONT HAVE A CHOICE TO DO IT OR NOT BECAUSE MY STOMACH SAYS WHEN TO STOP. EVEN AFTER SURGERY YOU STILL GET THE CRAVINGS BUT YOU KNOW THAT IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR YOU TO EAT IT. I THINK IT IS A LITTLE HARDER FOR ME BECAUSE I STILL HAVE YOUNG KIDS AND A HUSBAND TO MAKE MEALS FOR. SO EVEN THOUGH I AM COOKING I CANT EAT WHAT THEY ARE HAVING. AGHHHH! HOPEFULLY THIS HURDLE WONT LAST TOO LONG. THANKS FOR THE FEEDBACK AND I HOPE THAT YOUR SURGERY GOES GREAT.

I was sleeved 07/12/2011 and have been struggling with psychological hunger as well. People ask me if I feel hungry anymore and I tell them my head and heart thinks I am, but physiologically--no hunger. I cook meals for my family now and I sit downwih them but I have something I can drink instead. Sometimes, I make them eat what I have, whatever soup of the day it is...lol. My doc gave me a book called Living a Lighter Lifestyle that addressed this type of problem and discussed how improtant it is to recognize that we are going through a grieving prcess right now. Grieving the loss of food and what it meant to us before andaccepting that from now on it is simply a source of energy. Reading that book has helped me cope wth these feelings. Hope we both get through this pretty soon and you are not alon (and thank goodness neither am I...lol):)
