Staying Positive Not Always Easy

Tell me... why is it so damn easy to fall on to negative thoughts?

You may have seen some of my posts lately where I've been totally stagnant, not losing 1 single oz. I find it amazing that I lost 15 pds my first week, which I understand was basically water weight. But, I started soft foods this last week, and have lost nothing. I know my body is in recovery / heeling mode, and it needs time to adjust. But, come on. I'm barely eating a full 4 - 5 oz a day of protein, and not one little oz came off. Actually, a few oz came back on?

I'm trying to stay postive as I understand this is, afterall. a journey. Lord knows this weight didn't come on in a single week, although 30 pds did come on easily in a 3 -4 month time frame. Of course, I'm not giving up. I'm just dissappointed not to see an oz go down. I'm staying focused on eating small portions (1 oz meals every few hours), and drinking. I'm positive I'm not getting enough protein in, so I need to work on that. I don't know why, but it's always a struggle for me. I also feel that I'm not having enough... BM's... I think I'm going to add fiber to my small meals. I do use Miralax in my water to ensure that things stay, shall we say, smooth... but I know I'm not "going enough."

Sigh and deep breath... patience...

Try not to be discouraged, it WILL happen!! Definitely get more protein in. You would be surprised where it can be hiding. I add powdered non-fat milk powder to my morning "shake" or to creme soups to add more protein (I couldn't stomach protein powder). The first couple weeks when I moved onto mushies, even spaghettios snuck some protein in my diet. When I was having trouble getting shakes or anything down, my dietician said even drinking just some skim milk was better than nothing so I did that too. Be creative. :)

I also found that my weight loss got stagnate when I was eating too few calories. I felt less was more (even though I knew better) and my weight loss stopped. I was told to stay around 1000-1200 calories and that has helped.

Stay strong - YOU GOT THiS!

Good luck-you're doing great! Keep drinking protein shakes, that is what works best for me. I use skim milk in them, add some decaf instant coffee and sometimes peppermint extract and lots of ice cubes and it comes out as thick as a McDonald's shake. It fills you and gets in the protein which you need. I started phase 4 last week and it's going great. I just had crab meat for a protein snack/lunch.

I would totally feel just as you do. I have been telling myself from day one that I will need to be patient and forgiving of myself, but having to really exercise that sentiment is a whole different thing. Hang tough and keep us posted. I'm looking to you and others on this forum to keep me strong. (I'm only 2 days post op so I also have a lot to learn!) Best wishes Domika03!!

    • I’ve used my Xbox for exercise games too and it can be pretty motivating, especially on days when I don’t want to leave the house. Kinect games really do make you move, and after a session with kickboxing or dancing, I always feel like I’ve actually gotten a solid workout. The controller-free setup feels way more natural for workouts than anything I tried on the Wii. Zumba is fun but definitely takes a little time to get the moves right. Lately, when I’m not working out, I spend time trading CS2 skins and finding new guides on this link. There’s a lot of interesting tips if you’re into games outside of fitness too.

      Einarmige Banditen
