Support Meeting

I have always attended support meetings. My question is that I know some people that dont attend support meetings and they struggle to stay on track. How many people attend support meeting? Do you feel the meetings help out ? I need some imput for a friend that thinks its a waste of time attending them. What do you guys think?

LAP-BAND Patients

i have only been able to attend one since my surgery that is held at my surgical center and i found it to be amazing...most of the people were bypass patients but they were very warming and welcoming. i found that our struggles as wls folks are similar. the group was facilitated by the psychiatrist that completes our evals for pre-approval and he was brilliant. of course, i may be a little biased as a clinical social worker myself, but i think support groups, even peer mentored are very, very useful. who else can support you better than your own...you'll find me here often for the same reason...but there is nothing like real life support..hope this was helpful:)

LAP-BAND Patients

I've missed one meeting since starting the process, and will continue to go the them. My hospital does the meetings for surgery specific groups, so mine is only Lapband patients.

I like the fact that there is a group of people going through the same thing as me that I can sit down and talk to face to face. Sometimes online just doesn't cut it, but it's still better than nothing at all.
