I Am Constantly Getting Stuck!!!! I'm Miserable!

Nicole Sikes

I was banded March 2011. It has been one headache after another for me. After surgery I started having esophageal spasms and had to have the primer fluid removed. That went on for several weeks. I can only have a fill of 0.2 because I swell so easily. I am constantly getting stuck after 2-3 bites no matter what I eat and sometimes I can't even drink! I am almost at my year point where I won't be covered anymore and will have to pay out of pocket for fills @ 0.2cc! I'm so frustrated. I know some people get stuck sometimes or have an off day but I have alot more bad days than good! Is anyone else experiencing these same issues or is there something wrong with me/band? I'm so miserable and HUNGRY all the time and can't eat. This is NOT what I signed up for! Please give me your feedback!

Thanks,

Nicole

Hi: I an here with encouragement! I assume all is medically ok with your band. Sometimes it just takes forever for things to fall in line.

What are you eating, and when? Are you drinking water until it almost runs out your ears? Do you smoke? For a while I lived on yoghert and scrambled eggs. but I made it.

I had the surgery in 2005, lost down to 160, but have had immense problems with aspirational pneumonia, and most of my fill taken out. I am ready to start again, and hope I have learned my lessons to eat tiny bites, over a long period of time, and certainly not to eat without 5 hours of bedtime.,

I had my surgery in May 2011 and I have lost about 58lbs but I have the same issues day in and day out. I am always "stuck" after a few bites. They drained my band down to 2 ccs from 6ccs and I also had the spams and was on medication to relax my esophogus. I just recently had a upper GI this week to rule out any issues. The Dr now wants to drain my band completely to see if I can eat and start to lose weight again. I also live on scrambled and greek yogur amd protein shakest and If I do try to eat anything it has to be drowned in fat free salad dressing in order for it to go down.

I am discouraged at this moment but would not give back those 58 lbs for nothing! I need to lose about 55 more lbs!

WOW - me too! A couple bites and that is all I can eat and I get hungry. I can drink OK.

I was banded Dec. 13. Actually, it was a revision (i think that is right). First time thru the tube wasn't connected or came undone, so he removed that band and gave me another one.

If all I am eating is a few bites, shouldn't the weight be just falling off??

I have lost 23 lbs and I do eat healthy. I can only eat so much. 2 or 3 bites of cottage cheese, yogurt, whatever.

I thought this was how it was supposed to be.

Thank you guys for your comments! My routine is get up in the morning and have a cup of coffee. Some mornings I have to "slime" it back up but most of the time it goes down fairly well. I don't even attempt eating breakfast! That doesn't work at all. I try to drink a protein drink a little later. That's a 50/50 thing whether that goes or not. I later try to eat lunch. I'm in school so I usually take one of the Hormell pre-packaged meals because it's easy to carry in my bag and throw it in the microwave. For example, the teriyaki chicken with rice went down ok on Thur. Yesterday the chicken and dumplings was a negative but it was a go last week. Scrambled eggs anytime of day is a no, no bread, occassionally pasta and rice, beef feels like I can never get it chewed up enough to swallow (I think I am anemic because of the beef shortage), chicken is a 50/50, soups may work one day and not the next. I've started eating yougurt hoping to help with constipation and it seems to go down pretty good so far. It just drives me bonkers how you can eat something one day and the next time you try it won't go down. Like I said I know that some days are gonna be off days but I don't think miserable and hungry all the time should be part of it. I will say this, the day after my surgery I woke up with a horrid migraine. I knew I wasn't supposed to throw up but I heaved twice and tried to stop it. That day I started having pain in my band like a rock was stuck in it. I went and had all the fluid taken out and then the spasms started. In my mind I think maybe I moved it that day. I'm to the point I am ready to go have an upper GI myself to see if it's like it's supposed to be. I mean my husband tells me that I could've threw my food up for free and I agree with him. This surgery wasw supposed to limit my food intake to a half cup to a cup at each meal not a few bites every once in a while. And yes, you would think the weight would be falling off @ puppypaws but in the 10 months I've had it I'm only down 56 lbs. Now I am so excited about those 56 lbs. gone but it should be more and it shouldn't have been so hard to come by. So now that I've written a book, I hope I answered all your questions. What do you think I should do differently or otherwise?

.I have found that I eat very litle, and I think that is the way it should be.

I eat a variety of things daily. Breakfast if a small amount of oatmeal, 1/4 apple diced and a little brown sugar. Or a scrambled egg and 1/2 piece of grain bread or Kashi go lean cereal. But we are talking 1`/4 to 1/2 cup. Not much. Don't rink a half an hour before you eat, or a half an hour after you eat.

I have never had more than 2.5 cc's im my band. Six is a lot.

My advice is f9or a while eat something that goes down well and is satisfying., and stick with it three times a day if you have to Something needs to heal.

Good luck. Keep me posted.

my band was too tight for 7 months i only lost 8 lbs in that time. i was throwing up after a few bites too, i just thought that was life with the band. i had some taken out right away but it wasn't enough. now i am seeing my dietitian and eating better. i lost 3.2 lbs in two weeks, not a lot but at least it was a loss. sounds to me like your bands are too tight. i thought i would lose a lot of weight since i couldn't eat but it doesn't work that way. good luck
