5 Days Left...

So, i have 5 days left before the "big day", and i dont know why but the last two days i have just felt very discouraged. its not a very fun feeling. at first i was excited and couldnt wait and now all that keeps running through my head is what if this doesnt work, what if i dont loose any weight. I know positive attitude is key but i just cant seem to get outta this groove right now. Im still doing everything i was told to do pre-op and following my diet, no cheating, im just hoping that since i have been having finals this week that the added stress is what is causing this and it will go away before surgery.

I have a few questions for those who have already had their surgery...

1.) Did u get any sleep the night before?

2.) I know pain is different for everyone, but how much pain were you in and how long did it last?

3.) What is the most rewarding thing after surgery? (any time frame)

4.) Did anyone else have a purred diet 2 weeks after surgery, and how did that go? (any suggestions for food)

5.) What was your biggest struggle during the process?

Hi K,

I had my band placed on Monday 12/5 so I am now post op day #3. I got a little emotional a few days prior to the surgery, can't explain it really but it went away by the day before surgery. I didn't sleep well the night before at all but have to say the surgery went smoother than I thought it would. The pain is nowhere near as bad as I expected. I took the pain med every 6-8 hours the 1st day and then maybe twice yesterday and twice today - mostly to help me get comfortable enough to sleep. I am still on full liquid diet so can't help with your question on the pureed. Good luck!!

1. I slept well the night b4

2. Pain was tolerable, took aobut 4 days to feel "normal"

3. rewarding? I am 8 days out from surgery and down 9 pounds!! Add the 10 I lost during pre-op diet and I am aready at 25% of my goal of 80 pounds!!!

4. I am currently on puree. I am loving turkey breast with green and regular onions with a bit of mayo. YUM! also, more protien shakes, yop, pudding, jello (all sugar/fat free), anything in a magic bullet.

5. Dealing with the cost... I am a self payer...

You will rock this!!

You will do great!

1) I slept like a baby the night before. I was so ready for the surgery.

2) As for pain, the day of surgery was mild for me, the next day was OK too, as long as I took pain meds, day 3 I felt like I had done about 100 sit ups...my stomach was very sore. But, I returned to work on Monday following my Friday surgery. That is when the gas inmy shoulder kicked in.

3) Most rewarding...watching the scale move backwards. I am 4 months post op and have lost 60 pounds. Another 80 to go.

4) I wasa told to do clear liquids for 3 days after surgery, and then switch to a liquid diet for a week. After that I could slowly move into soft foods (yogurts, mashed potatoes, etc). By wek 4 I was pretty much back to a regular diet, but I proceeded carefully.

5) Biggest struggle? well, I have never been anyone who exercised, therein lies my struggle...I had to get really determined to do it. So, I started out riding a bicycle in my neighborhood, then when the weather turned colder than what I liked, I joined a gym. Now I bike in the gym and do the treadmill. Unfortunately, I am going to have to step it up and add some real exercises next.

GOOD LUCK. KEEP A POSITIVE ATTITUDE AND YOU WILL DO WELL. btw, i am a self-pay, had my surgery 8/19/2011 and I really LOVE my band.
