Calorie intake??

I just started on solid foods this week and not too bad. I am tracking my food and liquid intake using myfitnesspal.com which is great! I have only had a total of 571 calories today and 92 grams of protein.. Is that normal? I can't see how I am going to get more calories when I'm eating my 3 meals and a snack. Any suggestions? Does anyone know if its ok to get such a low amount of calories? I'm hearing different thoughts.

Thanks for the help!

Once I started tracking my food on myfitnesspal and saw i was getting between 400-600 calories a day (i thought I was eating closer to 800) I got nervous I was eating too few calories and called the dietician at my surgeons office. She said it was perfectly fine and not too worry as long as I was getting my protein in and taking vitamins. Feel free to add me on myfitnesspal.com, I'm Danaocny .

I personally don't do well when my calories get too low. I eat my 3 meals a day but i also have 2 protein shakes a day. I had stopped doing the shakes for a while but recently started them back up to help me lose.

It is funny how different things are now. Before we thought we were eating low cals and eating more than we thought. Now we think we're eating really well then when we calculate it up we're like 800 calories? Felt like I ate so much!

I asked my Dr about drinking or eating 90 grams of protein and he said it was ok. I'm also comsuming 800-1000 calories a day.

Thanks everyone! :) so it sounds like a lot of people add some protein drinks in during the day to get some extra calories and protein. I'll try that too.. I figure I can also add whey protein to things as well. I guess it takes getting used to and a whole new mindset.

What do your 3 meals consists of and snacks? That isn't many calories. The protein shakes will boost it a little. Sounds like your gettin alot of protein so I am curious what you are eating with so little calories. Take care. :)

Hi Roseyposey-

I have been doing a carnation instant breakfast with milk and a scoop of whey protein, I have usually 4 oz of grilled chicken and a vegetable for lunch, a greek yogurt in the afternoon for a snack and then either grilled chicken or fish and a veggie for dinner. So the protein adds up fast but not so much the calories

Be very careful eating that low of calories. Its just simply not enough. Sure, the scale may go down but your body will burn up muscle as a fuel source instead of fat. The more muscle you lose, the more fat you store and the more likely you are to keep storing fat when and if you do eat something like pizza or ice cream. I did exactly what you are doing until I really educated myself on losing fat and building muscle. You NEED to eat!!! A LOT. You just need lots of protein with a complex carb and good fat in every meal. This way, YOU WILL LOSE FAT and retain your muscle.
