Feeling a little discouraged

Hi I am new at this, but started to feel a little discouraged. I was banded on 7-1-2011 and since that time have only lost 15 lbs. I had my 1st fill on 8/12 for 5.2cc in 14cc band. It didn't seem to make any difference so I called surgeon and he added another 1.5cc on 8/26 for a total on 6.7cc in 14cc band. Here is the problem, i can almost eat regular size portions without any problems. I have never gotten nauseated or vomited. If I didn't know any better I would say that I didn't even have a band. i'm usually not hunger in the am but make up for it in the evenings. i feel very little restriction. If anyone one has experienced this or have any suggestions, please help!

Stay strong and focued. I am scheudle for surgury in a few weeks and have the same concerns you are experiencing. My thoughts are to have the doctor make sure the band is in the right spot. Let me know who things go. Good luck.

I had surgery July 26th and my first fill last Fri. I feel exactly like you do. I can eat almost the same as before. My doctor said it's not unusual for the first fill to wear off quickly,

but I thought same day was awfully fast! I too have never felt nauseated. Am hoping I will feel a difference after the next fill, which is in two weeks. Am trying to keep good thoughts and ask myself "Am I REALLY hungry?" before putting more in my mouth. Good luck!

I had the my surgery June 27, 11, I do notice i have the band if i eat too fast or dont chew my food well. I did change my way of eating. I have a protein shake fr breakfast and a banana if i get hungry. I still havent had a fill. Will be going to the DR. Tuesday, I know I been losing weight. Just stay strong and focused and you'll be fine. I always remember what my DR. said Stop eating when your satisfied. Thats what I been learning

Are you measuring out your portions? The band will not prohibit you from eating a normal size portion, you have to use portion control still. For dinner I measure out a specific amount of lean protein & veggies, eat the protein first then the veggies. The nerves in your stomach will tell your brain that you are full on less foods then before. Just because you can eat more does not mean you should. You have to learn how to listen to your body and when it is telling you that you are satisfied, you are no longer looking for that full feeling.

you do not want to move to fast. I was banded on 4/4/11 and have had know problems until two weeks ago when I got my 5th fill bringing me up 9 in my 14 band. I enjoyed my band until now. Now I know what people are talking about. I am thinking of getting 1/2 of my last fill taken out. I get stuck to often and do not like to be in pain. Anyway my point is as long as you are loosing weight and eating right don't worry about it.

DO NOT make the mistake of thinking you are just going to drop all of your fat. It will NOT happen. In fact, if you are losing more than 2 lbs a week or 3 of you are extremely over weight then you are losing muscle. Do some research on that topic. Ive been studying this for a long time and have many post about it. I have only lost 46 lbs in nearly a year. But , I know every one of those pounds was FAT. You must weight train in order to keep your muscle ( which burns fat all day) and lose fat. You must also feed your body. You must eat a good protein and complex carb 5-6 x a day. Dont restrict yourself to the point where you cant eat enough. I have dont that and today I just scheduled another un-fill because I cant get enough food in to lose fat. Be very careful with that band.! If I were you and knowing what I have learned over this past year I would keep your fluid in your band where it is and educate yourself about your diet. Losing fat is 85% about your nutrition and only 15% about exercise - weight training. I hope this helps. I would like to keep others from making the mistakes I have made.

I agree with kelly111 she knows what she is talking about. I was banded June 29, 2009 and have had much success with my band. It is I had to train my mind to eat slower, and lesser amounts of food. If I want to be little, I must also eat little. Make good choices about foods. I eat real not processed, I eat fresh vegetables and always eat my proteins first. I don't eat too much and never drink with a meal. Eat slowly! I have fruit for a snack or a yogurt or low fat cheese stick. Most all I have learned it is a mind over stomach game. Be mindful and you will have success. Best wishes imaluckydog

What you're feeling is normal. It takes a few fills to feed the difference. You will feel the difference later on. I had another member tell me this and that helped a lot. Cherubof Calif.

I was banded 7/5/11 and since then I have only lost 12 lbs, so we have a similar story. I have the 10 ml band with 5 in it. I have had something really stuck 1x and I answered the phone, wasn't thinking and swallowed my food too fast, so now I don't answer the phone when it rings and I don't talk much when I eat because I don't ever want to have stuck happen again. I too feel like I could eat much more than I allow myself too, but the trick is just don't allow yourself to. For example, yesterday I went to lunch with a friend at my favorite mexican restaurant. I asked for a box before my food ever got there. I put all but 1/2 of my piece of fish and the guacamole and some salsa in the box to take home to my husband. If it is already in the box I don't eat anymore. So even if you think you can still eat the same....DON'T!
