I have so many How do you know questions. I was banded 1-11-11. I lost 11 lbs in 4 days manly because I was to tight. I couldn't get much down without pain. Went to the doctor and had all fluid taken out of band. I had my first fill on 2-23-2011 4cc in a 10cc band.

At first I could eat anything and no problem now a few weeks out I've had quite a few episodes with food getting stuck and have thrown up 2 times.

 

MOST times I can eat alot more than 1/2 a cup.. Do I need a FILL??

 

How do you know if you have the right restrictions? When food gets hung?

 

I'm still hungry after most meals but get uncomfortable while eating at times.

 

When you get the hiccups is that a sign of full even though I'm not?

 

I'm down about 19 lbs in less than 2 months which I think is good BUT most of that was the first 4 days.. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.:(

4 cc is alot for a first fill. I only got 1/2 cc for my first fill. I have a 10 cc band as well. It is best to take it slow. If you overfill, you will have problems it seems. I am hoping to get another fill in a week. It has been a month waiting for it though. I guess it will be 1 cc this time. Not sure, but my surgeon seems to be very conservative. Good luck.:)

My fills have been very, very conservative. I think my first fill was 0.5 cc. I can eat about a cup then my body says STOP. If you are eating like you used to, it sounds like you may need a fill, but ask for a small one. I am pretty certain I am at the right restriction because I do not get hungry (still working on eating because I am bored though!).

If food is getting stuck, its not a good sign, you may have too much restriction OR it may be the kind of food you are eating. I cannot eat things like eggs, romaine lettuce, or shrimp since being banded, even if it is less than 1/2 cup. My body rejects it almost immediately.

I get hiccups when air gets mixed in when I swallow.

My largest weight ammount lost was in the first 2 months like you. Is the scale still going down? Mine has been slow...fast...plateau...but never up so I am happy (down 65 since July). I think you are doing great! Be patient and listen to your body.

Everybody's body is different. I had 5 cc for my first fill, 1 cc for my second fill, and 1 cc for my third fill. Still no restriction. Listen to your own body and don't let others tell you what you should or should not be feeling. Ask yourself if you are chewing your food to the consistency of milk and taking tiny (the size of a pencil eraser) bites. If you are truly doing these things and still getting stuck, you might want to talk to your doctor. I have heard that hiccups could be considered a "soft stop" for some people and may be your bodies way of signalling you that it has had enough food.

Eat your protein first. I usually eat between a cup and a cup and half each sitting. You will never really feel "full" but you will feel satisfied and able to go around 4 hours without being hungry. I always eat my meal that I have portioned out, wait a bit, then see how I am after that. If I get hungry within a couple hours, I might need a fill. Also, if I don't chew enough or eat too fast, I feel uncomfortable and sometimes the food comes right back up. I actually had about 3 cc's in my band when they banded me and I didn't know it. I am now about up to 7.5 cc's in my 10 cc band and have been banded for 5 months. Everyone is different and it is a learning experience :-)
