Hello everyone,

I had my lap band surgery on January 7, 2011. I've waited so long for this to happen. It has been 3 days since the surgery and I am feeling good. A little sore, but nothing to write home about. It's definitely tolerable. I've been living on chicken broth, s-f popsicles and water. I can't say I am hungry yet. Seems like it's not an issue yet. I am scared but excited. I don't want to make mistakes and learn the hard way. I am trying to read as much as I can and follow the rules. If you have any words of wisdom or comments, please share them with me. I am looking for support and encourage on this journey. Also, if there are things I should be aware of or avoid, please share that with me also. Looking to meet new friends who can share my concerns.

Good luck everyone!!!

SF ice pops are the best! Once you can start on food, tuna with lots of lite mayo in the food processor is a great way to go. Also, I use 1 egg with egg whites and make scrambled eggs for breakfast everyday. Land O Lakes make a great light butter with either canola or olive oil. I prefer the canola. Eat slowly and chew well when you can start eating. I hated the protein shakes, so I went to soups and eggs quickly.

Get the the gym as quickly as you can and stay on your routine. If you can't afford or use a gym, walking and swimming if you have access to a pool. Stay active - at the beginning it is so hard, but it does get easier. When I started at the gym I was able to walk about 5 minutes on the treadmill and increased the length of time, the speed and incline. You will not do it in a day - take your time. It took years to put the weight on, be patient and it will come off. Follow your doctor's instructions and see a nutritionist with your food log. They will give you the best advice. I have cut out carbs, except for what is in veggies. No white products - bread, pizza, pasta, potatos, etc. for at least 1 year. But do what the dr says to do and you will succeed. Good luck and welcome to our little bandster family.

Thank you for writing.... I love the SF popsicles. They are a life savior right now. As of Friday, I can start solid liquids so I can increase my diet somewhat. I have protein drinks from Medifast that I can tolerate well and that will help. This first week I am not getting any protein and that scares me.

I love walking so I will be walking like crazy again. I usually walk almost 3.5 mile a day with my dog. I am so excited about this.

Baby Steps,

Hi! Its nice to see someone who has been banded recently like me...my journey has started out really well. I am already sick of protein shakes and want real food but the dr says that is normal and will subside once I am on pureed food. THANK HEAVENS! This is a really neat place to find support because we will really need it

When did you have your surgery? How successful has it been so far for you? Are you feeling well? How many fills have you had? Sorry for all the questions. This is so new and exciting for me.

I think you have got some of the best advice already from the messages above! What I would add is to make sure you add variety to your diet. Yes, I eat a lot of chicken but I cook it 15 different ways...I can't let it get boring. Unlike Bklynike I do love protein shakes so I do continue to have one of those a day (I am not a breakfast eater). So make sure you get your protein in each and every day..that is extremely important! When you are in the puree stage..remember you can puree anything..you just may not want to look at it but it will taste the same!! As Bklynike said routine is crucial..whatever exercise you do..stick with it..it is very important! I never went to the gym but I never missed a day in my pool!! Stay online, go to support groups and follow your dr's direction and you will be a huge success!! If you do not feel right question it..do not let things get out hand!! I wish you the very best on your journey!!!

I love chicken... that will be great when I can have it. I am a super fussy eater which will not make this easy for me. I don't like to puree anything and I don't eat vegetables. I will have to struggle with protein drinks for the next couple of weeks. I've done Medifast protein drinks before and can get them down pretty easy so that is what I am hoping to have.

When did you have your surgery? How well have you done?
