Hi Everyone!

 

My name is Jennifer Im 21 years old I weigh about 347 and am 5"11 . I FINALLLY got approved for surgery. I was denied back in 08 and now in 2011 it will happen. My surgery date is Jan 10th. I am not required to do a pre-op 2 week diet. But i had a few questions.

 

1) What foods "liquids" can i eat for 2 weeks After surgery??

 

2) How bad is the pain after surgery? ( im a baby and dont do well with pain)

ive heard of taking gas -x strips any other recommendations?

 

3) is drinking sugarfree red bull ok? i heard after surgery for a couple weeks your weak and i need to get back to school and work as soon as possible

 

4) ANY ADVICE YOU CAN GIVE ME I WILL TAKE AND BE GRATEFUL FOR!

Your surgeon should really be advising you on this, but since he's not......

1. I started with plain chicken broth, it's all I could really stomach for about three days. As I felt stronger I added Adkins protein shakes and lived on them for 2 weeks.

2. Walk, walk & walk some more to get rid of the gas pains! Gas-x strips do help, too.

3. Red Bull is not good for you at any time. Treat your new tummy with love & respect! You are young and will bounce back quickly. Start using exercise as a way to energize yourself.

Hi Ballajenn34, I hav emy 1st appointment on the day of your surgery,I an sure that the doctor will let you know what to eat and drink but I an starting now getting used to protein drinks because you will need plenty of these, you can go to www.unjury.com and look at the product,there they have nothing but briatric products,Vitimans,calcium and other stuff that you are going to need....check it out...let us know how you are doing...but please check with the neutritionist at the hospital when you go back or even call them and make sure that you are doing what you are suppose to do....camille01

Congrats on taking the first step. This is a heck of a great journey - you will be so amazed at how good you will feel as the weight starts to drop off.

You doctor will give you a list of do's and don't's. Follow it. I had my surgery in the morning and was home by 3:00 in the afternoon. I rested up the first day - was a little sore getting up and down from sitting, but that was pretty much it. By day 2 I walked, walked and walked to get rid of the gas. I was watching TV and every time a commercial came on, I got up and walked around my condo. By Day 3 I was visiting my father-in-law who was in the hospital and walked the halls - a lot.

I started on liquids, then shortly afterwards went to mushy like eggs, tuna with light mayo, and creamy soup. Then on to regular food.

The pain was a piece of cake - don't be afraid. You will be fine. Good luck to you. I started my journey in October at 268lbs. My surgery was on June 21st and as of yesterday I weighed in at 199.5. I have not felt this good in years.

You've gotten good advice here. I would add that you may need about three days in bed before going out and being independently mobile. I had my surgery of a Thursday and intended on going to work Monday. I did well after surgery and through that Sunday. However, the gas kicked in and I could not make it to work until the Wednesday following. So I took six days including the weekend to recuperate. The month following, I took it easy whilemy body healed. I was placed on the post op diet stages that Bklynike speaks of. The only exception was my surgeon had me drinking protein shakes after about three days post-op. It was the only thick liquid I had before moving to mushies.

Glad you decided to do this. I was banded Wednesday December 29th. I am a little uncomfortable today but not unbearable. I do not like pain meds so I am not taking them. I am taking liquid ibupropen and it seems to help. I do have the gas pains but walking is helping. I hope to go back to work Tuesday and am feeling pretty decent. I have been sipping water and SF popsicles. Had some broth yesterday also. Today I start with a bit of yogurt and carnation instant breakfast (SF). Am looking forward to a bit of runny oatmeal also....lol. This is the advice I got from my doctor - you should follow what your doctor tells you,
